Hello All, I have a general question about interchangeable motorcycle parts. If I go to a website like www.bikebandit.com and look in their OEM parts sections for the same part from two different bikes and they have the same part number does this mean they are interchangeable? What is a general method for checking part interchangeability? I need to buy a new carburetor on Ebay but it is for a different year motorcycle. According to www.bikebandit.com they have the same part number (and same cost). Does this ensure compatability? Thanks as always. Adam

Good morning to all, this is my debut post here....... I have a 2001 yamaha SR 125. This morning when I got to a friends house before work the clutch cable seems to have come un attached from the handle - awesome (thankfully it was left in neutral) At present the bike is a couple of miles away from home and I cant ride it and face a long push home. Could anyone advise if there is a likely quick fix, or failing that what wouble be recommended. I am not overly mechanically minded so nice basic intructions would be a god send !! Thanks in advance for your help!!

Hello all Can anyone recommend a good garage around the Wilmslow area? My DT125R won't start, my more knowledgable neighbour has eliminated the spark plug and seems to think the engine isn't being fed fuel properly. It's had a new carburettor prior to me purchasing and it was running well yesterday. Cheers!

  7. I just bought a 1974 DT 125. The guy I bought it from had taken it as a deal with three other bikes. He rebuilt the carb, the engine is in good shape, but decided to get rid of it because it wasn't worth his effort to rebuild the electrical system. The guy who had it before him had the engine running on a go-kart and put a home made flywheel/magneto generator on it. It came with the orginal starter/generator assembly, which I have cleaned up and put new brushes in. An auto electric shop tested the coil and told me it was good. They figured I should get it all on the bike and test the generator with a battery on it...they thought the wiring looked dubious. I want t…

Hello All, First off, thanks to everyone that has been helping me over the past two weeks. I started off with a motorcycle that would not start and it is near running flawlessly now. I am having one problem however. I can only start the bike with the throttle open. Once the bike starts if I do not constantly apply the throttle the bike dies. Between 1200 and 2000 rpm (approximately) the bike sounds weak, however, over 2000 rpm it sounds GREAT. I think the problem lies in the idling circuit in the carburetor. For this carburetor the idling circuit has two components I believe. The air screw and idle jet. Even with throttle the bike can only start when the a…

Hello All, Thanks for all of the ongoing support. In its current state the bike is very close to being rideable. The motorcycle will idle with the air screw turned in completely and the idle screw turned out 2.5 turns. I am now having a different problem however. The motorcycle idles around 1500 rpm currently, which is too high, and as soon as you touch the throttle the engine will rev up, seemingly without bound, until you throw the kill switch. I cannot think about what would be causing this. Does anyone have any ideas? I was thinking about an air leak, however, I do not believe there are any leaks from the airbox->carburetor->intake manifolds OR from pe…

hi iv had 2 bikes (4 stroke 125cc v twins) and both have had the bottom end fail so just wondered what can cause this? i know the 1st one decided to die cause of the oil....well...lack of it. but as to the second one the only thing i can think of is cause iv re-jetted the carb??? but surely the crank and everything connected to it shouldnt fail cause of that? both the bikes were under 10 years old so i cant get my head around why they died. could someone shed some light on this problem? cheers. .Paul.

Hello all New to the forums and hopefully a long term member! I have just bought today a 1998 DT125R, in good condition, unfortunately the chap I have bought it off is as much as a novice as me and therefore couldn't answer my questions. I could do with some answers! I'm sorry if these sound really stupid but I have never ridden a two stroke before! Where does the two stroke oil go? What is the best kind of two stroke oil to use? Do I need to mix the fuel with any oil - if so, what are te quantities? Where can I get replacement panels? (one is cracked) What regular maintenance is required? Where is the best place to buy spares? Anything I should be aware o…

  18. Hey guys, I am disassembling my old xs400 engine, and i was curious how the kickstart works... i tried putting it in the same way i saw it in there but not sure i did it correctly... It seems to turn the engine's gears to turn crank when i pull it up not 'kicking' down as i would expect ... Heres some video to go along with my question (have i guess an initial question about sprocket too) PS no clutch plates in the bike currently but i dont think that affects anything relating to starting up the bike.
