  2. Hello guys, I'm new here. I just bought my first bike, an '86 FZ600. It needs some help. Anyways, I was wondering where I am to find parts for this thing? Specifically two of my choke plungers are broken off, So at least I need two of those and probably gaskets for when I tear my carbs open. Another thing ive been wondering is, If my choke plungers are down, as in into the carbs, is that choke on or off? Thanks, Nick

Hello All, I am restoring an old Yamaha XS400G 1980. I think ALMOST everything is in working order, but I am having trouble with fuel flow. If I set the petcock to the prime position for several seconds then switch it to on or reserve the bike will start/run no problem, but then die after a minute or so. When I try to start it up again the bike wont start until after I have 'reprimed' it for several seconds. I went out and bought a inline fuel filter so I could actually watch the fuel flow from the petcock to the carburetor and when the petcock is in the on or reserve position I see no fuel flowing. (The inline fuel filter is see through). My guess is that the …

Hi all again, Despite a few views on my current problems no-one can offer me any advice so I'm looking for alternatives for a New/Old Carb. The newer version of my bike uses a Cable operated Choke - can I use this to replace the Button operated one without having to fit all of the related "Gubbins"? Thanks in advance Emmi

Hi guys, Firstly I'm new to the site so let me start by being polite and saying "Hello". Been meaning to join for ages but sods law the bikes gone wrong and I need help so as good a time as any. In short, I need a decent 2nd hand Thundercat engine. I've only had my Yamaha YZF-600R Thundercat for 3 and a bit months and the bloody things gone wrong. I'm pretty new to biking and didn't really know what to look out for as this is my first "biggish bike". Turns out after buying that I was getting an occasional neutral and having difficulty changing from 1st to 2nd on WOR. Second gear has now started to slip and on research this is a sure sign the transmi…

  7. Hi all, Changed the chain and sprockets yesterday on my little SR 125 but in the process seem to have weakened the rear drum brake! Must admit, I dont have a lot of experience regarding drum brakes on motorbikes so could anyone enlighten me with the general way that you would adjust / reset the brakes to a useful strength again!? Thankyou!

Hello "OLDGIT" Warmed the spark plug up on my Dt like you advised, and gave it a kick over. Unfortunately, didn't have much sucsess, and after trying the old spark plug again, and also dropping a little bit of fuel in the spark plug port, (on someone else's advice) and then giving it a go, (using firstly the old plug, and then the new one, which is now the one that is still in,) still didn't have nuch sucsess. Began working through the Starting Problems, section of the fault diagnosis in the manual. Fuel getting through fuel pipe fine ...No kinks, twists or splits in any of the piepwork to the carburettor... Ht lead in reasonable condition, and supressor cap secure... …

Hey guys, I recently bought a 1995 yamah dt125r (2 stroke) which required a lot of rebuild work. I installed new tyres and rims, I had to replace the fuel tank as the old one was rusty, I over hauled breaks and carb and I recovered the seat. After all this work I was glad to get it running. It felt good and I had no problems. That was untill after about about 300 miles of riding and the engine partailly seized on me. Once recovered I went about investigatin the problem and found that the oil in the tank had not been injected at the correct rate therfore the motor was running on no where near enough oil. Once i had replaced piston and rings and rebored the e…

hi all im gonna go play with an xv virago engine with xvs dragstar heads (125cc) and was wondering if anyone knew about advanced ignition timing? iv read its supposed to allow the pressure of the combustion cycle to hit maximum on the power stroke therefor increasing efficiency and supposedly power / torque and lowering emissions but comes at a price (harder starting and choppy low revs) anybody got any tips or views on this matter? could do with some help or ideas of how to go about it. im going to post my findings once iv had a play but im hoping to gain just a little more efficiency which would result in a little more power ......hopefully lol

I have a 1973 ct3 175 2 stroke theat will not start. When i bought it the engine was seized from getting water in it so i rebuilt it completely. The bike has good spark and the carb is good. I took the carb off a 1971 At1 125 that runs because the origonal carb for the Ct3 is coroded beyond repair. When trying to start it the bike will run for a fiew seconds. It revs up as soon as it starts and then dies. I have replaced the reeds and all the gaskets around the intake are new so it shuldn't be sucking air there. Could it be sucking air through the crank case causing it to run lean which would cause the reving. The carbs for both the At1 and the Ct1 are the same model b…

hi there im putting the dragstar 125 heads and cylinders on an xv virago 125 engine too see what happens they fit perfectly but the timing of the xvs heads is different to the xv all i need to know is if this is in order or if its wrong i.e the valve opens or closes b4 it gets to tdc or bdc. tdc = exhaust valve closed - air valve opens - piston goes down bdc = air valve closed - piston goes up = compression tdc = spark - piston goes down bdc = exhaust valve opens - piston goes up cheers .Paul.

  15. Hi all, New to this forum, but have been browsing around anonymously for weeks! Basically I'm an aspiring biker, hopefully getting through my 'big bike' tests in the next few months. Yesterday I went out and bought a little SR 125 'R reg' for £450, it has 20,000 miles on it and drove sweet when I took it out so thought I had a deal! This morning I have pulled out of my drive, full throttled it and the chains just bloody popped off. After taking off the covers to see the front sprocket its obvious the chain had come off there. I've put it all back on but it does seem the chain is very loose at the moment. If the chain comes off, and jumps under hard (as hard as…

Hi All, I've just bought a 1994 YZF750, I was told that the bike requires a new starter motor although I think more than likely its the sprag clutch due to the "stripped tooth" sound it makes when you press the button, runs fine when bumped off. I've ordered a haynes manual but in the mean time can someone tell me how to remove the starter motor? I've undone the two mounting bolts but there’s not enough room to manoeuvre it away from the frame, I’m guessing you have to remove the alternator but I cant get to one of the bolts behind the steel water pipe, could someone tell me how to go about removing this or the correct way if I’m doing it wrong? Also I cant s…

I have had a seriously neglected DT125r in my extremely in-experienced, though very enthusiastic and keen to learn hands for a few months now, and have had technical help on a number of occasions already from experts on this site bringing it from a very sad state to the point I am now at. To date, I have cleaned the carb, changed the reeds, recovered the heavily sulphated battery, had 2 new keys cut, replaced all the fluids, cleaned out the tank and re-newed the fuel, bled the oil pump pipe, cleaned the air filter, and now I have today tried to start it, and after kicking it over a few times finally got it to run, BUT, it only ran for a few minutes and then cut out? Wa…
