Hi all, brand new to the forum, picked up my 2006 YBR yesterday, (£550!!) Was slightly vandalised, but not seriously, easily fixed, however having stood for a while, the rear brake has seized and needs gentle persuasion (hammer), is this an easy job to fix or a bit of a nightmare as I'm new to bikes but have some experience with cars. Im also thinking of changing the chain as it's as really slack, has anybody got any recommendations? Many thanks Ricky

Afternoon folks, new to these forums, I just picked up a 1984 yam XS400, DOHC last night, mate was wanting rid of it Its been sat in a barn for the last 8 years but is actually very clean and tidy, just a little dusty, the engine was running a couple of years ago but it had an intermittent electrical fault. I’m going to strip this thing right back, either flat tracker replica or hard tail, still undecided. Either way I want to run minimal electrics (daylight hours MoT). Ideally I would like to do away with the starter motor however this engine doesn’t have a kickstart fitted, I know the earlier XS’s had both starter motor and Kick. So two questions: …

I started my YAMAHA DRAGSTAR 650 after Three Months. It did start after a couple of Cranks. It idles alright but the Engine dies when I rev it. What could be the problem ? I can only think of two reasons. 1. The little Black Box (Relay, Ignition Coil ?) in between the Battery and the plugs is not throwing enough current (But then why does it idle alright?) 2. Carburator fuel jets may be clogged. PLEASE HELP.

Hello All, I am trying to figure out why my battery is not charging on my 1980 XS400. I have tested the alternator and rectifier according to the manuals specifications and everything seems okay. I am having some trouble testing the voltage regulator. According to the technician manual the regulator should be mechanical with some sort of adjusting screw somewhere on the body. My regulator does not seem to have an adjusting screw and I do not believe it is mechanical. It looks like the part in this ebay auction: http://compare.ebay.com/like/120578199689?ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263632&UA=L*F%3F&GUID=831f21641280a0e205…

So the only work I was really looking at when I was swapping an 81 engine to a 78 XS400 was replacing the points based system by putting in the electronic ignition to hook up to new engine... So as I was hooking up the rest of the regular wiring before I even attempt that, I realized the alternator on the 78 engine had a different alternator wiring setup... On the old 78 one it had one 4-input female and 4-output male wires coming out of alternator (which is recieved by a 4-output and 4-input wire on harness)... But the 81 alternator wires coming out the engine, one of the wires has only 3 on the female end (so i guess it had 3 on the male end on its original har…

Right peeps, had my tank de-rusted form these guys and it came back yesterday. now I am sealing it tomorrow night and then letting it cure for 48 hours. the question is, they put a phosphor coating on the steel (assuming its to stop the rot) and the guy said to paint it asap. I need to put filler on the tank to get the proper profiles etc. now the question (get on with it dewpy!) 1) do i apply filler over the phosphor coating 2) sand (ie key) the metal first, then fill 3) spray etching primer on over the phosphor and then fill 4) sand the tank, paint then fill any thoughts?

hi all iv had enough and want to get rid of my sachs roadster 125 iv rebuilt the bottom end and the bike has a full years mot and tax, it needs a new paint job, handle bars, brake lever, and top end to the engine (well just a cylinder head) iv recently bought a new exhaust and loads of other bits to try and get it going again e.g gasket set, timing sprocket, new crank ect, the original bottom end went 2 days after the mot so since then iv replaced the crank, conrods and pistons. but now the timing sprocket has broke and its going to cost £22 for a new one which i cant afford, plus it could do with a new cylinder head as one of the exhaust bolts has sheard off (iv seen one…

Hi Folks, Being new to this forum, I see that a lot of very good people a working on bikes all over the world. Hence, I need HELP! I have a Yamaha TDR125 3SH (Italia?) Frame No. 001583 3SH, engine No. 001611 3SH. It's probably a UK import from 1990. I got the bike in several boxes probably a year ago, and have been doing my best to get the bike back on its wheels. So far all is good. I have it all wired up, but when is use the kickstart, I get no spark at the plug. The indicator lights are working and the switch for the side stand works as is the oil level switch. Any ideas are welcome at this stage. I have tried a new spark plug and have tried…

Really need some help with my bike as it won't start. Whenn you switch the ignition on the neutral light is lit, which is fine as the bike is in neutral. When you pull the clutch and hit the start button i get nothing, the bike doesn't turn over.....just silence. I have replaced the starter solenoid, start stop relay and right hand switch gear to no avail. Today i replaced the battery again to no avail. I have found that the diode that is just below the seat doesn't provide continuity in either direction. I have proved the clutch switch is ok but still i get nothing. Would the diode stop the bike from starting if it was faulty? Any help would be appreciated as i am …

I am trying install new front and rear LED turn signals and I am having a lot of trouble finding where to connect them. I have a load equalizer and a full front and rear turn signal kit. The wiring going to the rear (from the bike) is one brown wire and one green wire, from the turn signals it is one red and one black (for both). I am not sure if the two red wires connect with the green and brown wires and both black wires are for ground. On the front I have only been able to find one wire that I think is a signal wire. I have taken apart the turn signal switch and everything works. If anyone knows anything about this, or turn signal wiring at all, your help would be grea…

I bought an old '72 CS5/ RD200 Electric and I can't figure out where to attach the positive cable from the battery. There are two ends to it. One that goes to the fuse and the other I'm guessing is for the starter but the cord is only about 6 inches long. Does it go to the Voltage regulator somehow? Thanks.

I recently purchased two (2) Yamaha 125's (AT1-C) from my father. I still remember the day in February in 1972 when we drove to Decatur Georgia and purchased two 125's, one 250, and four 80's. The family was now in the motorcycle riding business. We had some of the most wonderful times of my entire life while we were exploring the Georgia countryside on our Yamahas. One of the two 125's I bought from Dad is leaking transmission oil into the crankcase. The engine is blowing white smoke and will hardly run because of this oil. My question is, can I simply remove parts making my way down to the seals without tearing down the entire engine, or will I have to plan on tearin…

Hi Well here is my dilema and i will try to keep it as short as possible. I bought a 58 plate, third owner, 3200miles from a well known large dealer who i have had dealings with before and always found them very good. I noticed a week or so ago that the main headlight is off to the left and not facing dead centre. The crome headlight holders are not adjustable in any way which shows that the left bracket is about 5mm further back than the right. I know it doesnt sound alot but it looks worse. As the bracket is connected to the fork assembly then woudnt the left fork and stantion also be out of line???? I have no way of checking this and suspect it has h…

Hi everyone- I am restoring a T80 townmate. I thought I had got it pretty much back together but its failed the MOT because of a click from the forks. Basically if you hod the front brake on and rock the bike back and forth then sometimes there will be a loud clicking/flicking sound from somewhere in the fork area. (Sounds a bit like somethig trapped in the wrong position suddenly flicking back) I suspected the front suspension but the arms have been rebushed and I have swapped both the internal shock absorbers with the spares from my donor bike (as well as the mounting bolts) and it still happens. I'm not even sure it is the suspension now! Sound seems to come from the r…

Came home yesterday to find this in my back garden: PDIL (Prospective Daughter-In-Law) dropped it in for a wee fettle, how nice! Since getting through the MOT last November, the poor wee thing has sat in her (mildly damp) garage and not turned a wheel! So ..... flat battery, stale fuel, stuck throttle cable and more nibbling by the ferrous fairies: Battery charged, fuel drained and a squirt of carb cleaner, throttle slide turned round the right way (no I don't know how that happened either!), ready to start ..... Errr, where's the button? Looking on the devil's own auction site comes up with a lot of late model right side swi…
