I just a 1982 Yamaha XJ550 Maxim a few days ago. I am having trouble starting it when it has just been running maybe 10 minutes ago and is still hot. When I try to restart it, it just keeps turning over. Opening the throttle seems to help after a few seconds, but that's still too hard on the battery. After I do get it started, I have to use the choke for a minute, even though the bike is still hot. Help please? I put a brand new battery in it. It starts up perfectly in the morning when it's cool. I am in Wisconsin. It has not gotten cooler than 60 degrees or hotter than 85 degrees here since I got the bike and noticed this problem. Thanks!

Hey everybody, Today I will be replacing the gaskets where the exhaust meets the head in hope of stopping a leak. I am having a little trouble figuring out which way they go in. One side is smooth and one side has a groove going all the way around. If anyone knows which side should be facing inside the engine please let me know. Here are two pictures (one of each side). Thanks http://www.flickr.com/photos/52806761@N04/4904553885/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/52806761@N04/4904553981/ Also was wondering what type of grease would be good to use to help the gaskets stay in position while I install the exhaust pipes. Thanks again.

Help Please. I have a new to me 1986 fzx700 pretty nice condition with 1 problem. Yha clutch was leaking. I replaced the seals in the clutch master cyclinder and the plate on the clutch cylinder itself. The person I got it from ran it out of fluid so I figured it may be only because of the leaks. On the center stand the bike starts fine runs I put it into gear and the rear wheel turs for about 19 sec. then stops rotating. The clutch lever is now hard as rocks. If I loosen the bleed valve on the slave cylinder and depress the clutch lever it all happens again. Is this an indication of a hydrolic lock or are the clutch plates and or the presure plate junk. Thank you Midl…

hi guys ive just bought a 15 teeth front sprocket off ebay 12.00 buks and wat a diffrence its upt my gearing by 4to5 mph i cant hit the limiter in 6th eney more but can hit 87 down a hill now i reckon with cam kit and valves it would ride perfect/maybe 95 might need rear sprocket as might hit limiter haha na should be perfect as it only striggles a wee bit so if i got the air in fatser or even more fuel eg carbs and its not slowed it down if eney thing its faster bottom end as gears are longer by 5 mph but will slow it a fraction but thats why i left standard rear sproket on was thinkin ov gettin a no roller chain as it saves drag as every link on a standard chain has a …

My FZR600R 1995 has just starter to be touchy about starting. A few times now I have pushed the starter button and there has been a loud and un-nerving clunk from the engine and then with any further depression of the start button the light panel (by the clocks) dims and there is no movement from the starter motor. I have then put the bike in gear and rocked it back and fourth abit and then tried again and it has started with no issue. I can only assume that the Starter may be jaming some how. could anyone advise if they agree or have an alternative suggestion, also what part of the starter may be causing it. and also where I might get the parts to fix it. Thanks to…

Just about to replace my piston on a rebored cylinder. With the piston rings came a very thin kinked washer than looks like it should fit under one of the piston rings?? in the past i have just discarded this as didn't see any purpose in it. Does anyone know what this is for? Should it be used under a piston ring? If so top or bottom ring? I think I discarded it last time cause it made the ring not fit into the cylinder. Any ideas?
