    Hey peeps, been away for a while but now returning to the world of bikes (hopefully!) bought myself an '89 XJ600 back in february some time with the intention of taking my test in the summer and riding it from wolverhampton to Newbury at the weekends, but i screwed up on my mod 2 o currently dont have a full licence. have noticed that the clutch is sticking now, when the bike is in neutral with the clutch in and i put it into first the back wheel will rotate, sometimes if i jab the back brake it will free up the clutch and stop spinning, but what is causing it and how do i fix it? if it makes a difference i changed the oil and there was only about half a litre in i…

    Hello All, My 1980 XS400 starts up and runs great for the first 15 minutes of driving. After that the bike will randomly lose power when in motion and will sputter and eventually die unless I put the clutch in and come to a stop. The problem is especially bad when going up hill. Since it only happens after the bike is warmed up I suspect an electrical failing because I figure the electrical components are more sensitive to heat. Does anyone know where I can start on this? My initial thought is something is wrong with the timing. Thanks, Adam

    I just wondered if any of you know if this has been done earlier ? As my engine is looking to get an overhaul anyway i was just wondering if the XV250 engine could fit in the frame on a 1U5 XS250 model. Could be fun to ride a V-Twin 250cc Yamaha cafe racer. I know the SRV250 is fitted with this engine.... but they are not easy to come by here in europe

    My turn signals quit auto canceling after I turn on my 82 XJ 400 Maxim is there a fuse blown? at the same time my speedometer quit too! bad day! the cable is good and greased and turns easy?

    I am completely new to forums so bear with me please.I have a 1993 XJ600 Diversion.It has been standing quite a while now.With a fully charged battery it turns over with no problem but will not start.There is a solenoid mounted on the rear of the engine.One pipe goes to the float bowl of the right hand carb and the other pipe to the cylinder head.The solenoid does not click.Could this stop my bike from running.Ive checked the fuel filter,pipes etc and all is ok.What is this solenoid for.I can find no info in my old Haynes manual.Many thanks for any help.PHIL

    Hey all! Wondering if there's a trick to replacing the throttle cable on a 06 R1 without removing the motor/throttle body assembly? When looking down at the motor (tank/airbox removed) the cable "cam" (where the cables attach) there is a top (pull/open) and a bottom (push/close) cable, I got the top cable installed no problem, but can't seem to fit my hands in there enough to get the end seated in the hole, and the cable into it's guide. I even tried removing the rear cover to the lower airbox portion (that houses the ECU) so I could get a little more room, but I couldn't get the harness detached. Any suggestions? TIA Darren

    Hi everyone, just bought an off road dt125 2001. On my second outing the bike seemed to just cut out and lock up, I put the bike in neutral but the kick start was locked and wouldn't budge at all ! Does anyone know what this could mean and what action I should ?

    I have a 1987 FZR 1000 Genesis. It has been stored in a garage for 10 years. I have put a new starter relay and battery on her - she fired up and sounded like a beastie...but I put the relay into its position and since then she won't start on the switch - she only gets going when I bridge the terminals on the relay with a spanner. I think the cut out switches are OK and the battery is fully charged. The bike is driving me nuts and I am on the verge of divorce! Anybody got any ideas? Les

    Hi All, Can any of you clever chaps out there help. I need to make the 535 rev less at motorway speeds, I have fitted a larger tyre which has helped a bit and made the handling better, what i would like to do is alter the gearing on the rear wheel dif.     Hello All, I am working on the electrical system on my 1980 XS400. I am trying to figure out the problem with my turn signals. I have several questions for someone with a working XS400. 1) When I turn the key should the turn signals light up? Currently when the key is in the ignition but the engine is NOT on my turn signals are on. When the bike is running the turn signals remain on continuously and using the turn signal control on the handlebar has no effect? Is this normal. 2) Only 2 of my turn signals light up. The other two are off, regardless of whether or not the engine is on/off and regardless of what I am doing with the turn signal controls. …

    hi i have just brought a dt 125 1998 it has been turned in to a field bike it runns but i want to put aday light mot on it all i need is a horn does any one know where i can find awire to power the horn it has no battery fitted but it runs under the petrol tank there is a black metal box with finns on it a some wire coming on of it whats this ????????? any help would be great matt

    Hi all. Got the engine back into the Fizzer after its rebuild but have encountered a prob. When try to start bike, can hear the starter relay clicking but nowt else happening. Have replaced the solenoid but no joy. Bike bump starts really easily. If put power straight to starter motor it spins freely. Any ideas? All suggestions welcome! (for info its a 1992 3HE FZR ) Thanks. Vic

    I have been viewing the site for a while now and I just want to thank you all the help you have given me. I have been trying really hard to get my xs400 roadworthy and with the help of this site, I am just about there. The last issue I am having is my front brake is binding (the wheel does not spin freely when lifted off the ground) however it is still functioning because when I pull the brake lever I feel pressure and can see movement in the caliper and the pads move closer to the disc preventing the wheel from spinning. The problem is that for the life of me I cannot figure out which is the caliper slide pin. The caliper attaches to the caliper mount through a b…

    on tuesday i bought an rxs100 as i desperately need transport, looked in very nice condition and all seemed ok, only has 17k on the clock and had a full 12 months mot, but on its second run out it started to splutter after about 3 miles then cut out, it now wont start anymore, either by kick or bumping it, ive taken the carb off and checked it out, it was all clean as a whistle but still no joy starting it, theres fuel, oil the airbox is clean, having eliminated all this im guessing i need a full engine rebuild or new engine, just wondering if im right, i may not have a chance in hell of fixing it but at least i may be able to diagnose the prob

    Hi all... I have been looking in vain for a used headlight in good condition on ebay and every possible motorbike link known to google. I have a R6 2004 (5SL) and was wondering if you might know someone that is breaking one or has had an accident and flogging parts individually? I put mines down at low speed approx 15 m/ph and it chipped the edge and broke the outer lens on the left hand side and need to repalce the whole unit as I am in the process of re-doing the whole bike and making it a 1 of a kind for me If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be muchly appreciated

    hi everybody, only my second time on here and still in need of help !! dt125r will start after much kicking run, flat out on choke then cut out. when it does run if you turn the choke off it dies, if you touch the throttle it dies.the carb has been ultrasonical cleaned,new plug and airfilter, fresh fuel and it has a good spark.its doing my head in why wont it START !!!! PS there is asmall white plastic connecter on the right hand side just under the water cooling pipes , should this be connected to anything ? any help would be greatly appreciated

    So I installed '81 xs400 coils on my '78 xs400 bike (upgraded it to electronic ignition) and since they don't fit the mounting area, I had to temporarily move my coils somewhere else and tie them down on the frame with plastic tie-downs (until i can find a place to weld a fabrication for me). I know that whatever electricity going through will be eventually grounded via the spark plugs to the engine... but do the coils have to be 'grounded' themselves as they have 2 metal screws sticking out where they are attached to mounting brackets? I assumed they dont need to be grounded as a lil' later the spark plug-to-engine takes care of that, But when i googled if it nee…

    hi everyone im new here.i just bought a 1992 yamaha sr125 to restore its a bit rough so will take alot of work to get it back to the way it was 18 years ago.just by looking at it i know it needs a carb an exhaust and the ignition switch but there must be so sort of cover for the switch as there is a gap from the clock and handle bar.[i tried to post pics but dont know how].i want to get it going before i strip it so if anyone has or knows where i can get parts [cheap as i dont have much] and a manual please let me know heres pic http://www.motorcyclenews.com/ImgGalleryTn/17/477517/124509_412746.jpg
