Hi all, I'm having some trouble with my front brake and could really use some help. All was working fine until I decided to open up the front calliper to examine as it was absolutely caked in brake dust, and I planned to swap out the pads anyway so. It is one of those callipers which splits down the middle and has a 'channel' where fluid can pass from one side to the other ( has a piston either side ). Upon opening the calliper a little fluid seeped out through this channel. This is whats caused my problem I guess. I put the calliper back together etc. And I now have no pressure what so ever at the brake lever. The reservoir is full. Tried bleeding it but no …

Hi, I've got a 2003 fazer 600, I recently changed the rear brake pads. Due to being an idiot when i removed the old ones i did not notice which side/pad the metal backing plate went on. It's difficult to ecxplain but they only half cover the back of the pad and on the one side there is a small piece of metal which holds the plate/pad in place. I've put this on with the metal piece facing forward towards the direction of travel. Is this correct???? Also I've noticed over last week or so that there is a minor qeaking noise coming from the back brake at low speed, are they prone to seizing or could it be this backing plate thing. Any info or advice much appreciated

hey guys i had a good search round on the forum before posting this this is where i am at :- when i bought my xj600 (21st march) all was good and working (a good friend of mine took it for a spin, and i checked over everything i could), but oweing to the fact that i have not passed my mod 2 yet (am booking in for test next week) its been stood since. note she already has braded hoses. 2 weeks ago i had to move her, and found that my rear brake had siezed on, i mannaged to free it off enough to move the bike, and gave the rear pads and caliper a good dose of brake cleaner. i also noticed at the time that the brake pedal went all the way down to the hard stop wit…

I have a 1994 FZR600R Genesis. Its an USA import model with just 18K on the clock. All seems well with the bike with no fall off in performance or reliability. However, very recently the rev. counter has started to behave oddly though I've been informed this is some form of fault reporting. The counter flicks between 8000 rpm and 0 rpm, hovering around these for a few seconds. It did this very rarely at first but since the tanks been off as part of a service its happening all the time though the counter behaves normally for a short spell when the bikes first started. I ask; is this a fault code? What does this one indicate? What are the other fault codes? etc.

Couple of tips for getting seized brake pistons out of calipers, add yours. Opposed piston brake calipers, Oh yes. Usual story, piston on one side gums up and the other one does all the work. Time to split the caliper and get both pistons moving freely. The stuck piston tends not to want to move and offers little material to grab onto. 1/ Before caliper dis~assembly , remove brake pads and caliper from wheel. Clamp the free piston into the body of the caliper with mole grips but leaving space for the jammed piston to move. Pump the brake at the pedal/lever, the jammed piston may come free. Up to you if you push it right way out and spill fluid, or le…

Hello All hope that I come to the right place to see about getting some help. Here is what I have on my hands. My bike will start and run but will not charge the battery. I hooked up a multimeter when riding, volts will drop if I go over 5000 RPM, Hit my breaks or use turn signals. and when I turn the bike off volts climb to 12.48 volts. Things I have tried. * Tested Stator with multimeter and get a reading of .6 ohms between all three legs. * Tested rotor and get reading of 3.4 ohms (yes its a little high but still good) * Changed out brushes So my next move should be to check the voltage regulator I would think. However I have no ideal on how to…

Bloody Hell whats going on? I have mini indicators from Demon Tweeks on the back of my xj6 but i cant get hold of the right bulb. They are Bax9 10w 12v bulbs. I can find the Ba9 bulbs which are the 180 degree bayonet (9mm diameter) but the BAX9 I need have offset pins on the bayonet and I cant get them in 10w...They must be available somewhere...the Ba9's can be got in 10w but I have tried and you cant make them fit. If anyone has any ideas or contacts in the bulb industry PLEASE HELP! Thanks in advance Adam_Fozz

I've picked up what I assume is a late 70's XS500 from my brother. The number listed on the engine is 1J3-200300. Based on the 1J3 this could either be a '76,'77, or a '78. Does anyone know the exact year? Thanks, Austin

Hi. I recently picked this bike up really cheap and for a week it has been beautiful!! It passed its MOT with flying colours etc.. The day before yesterday the bike would not start so I went to work and when I returned it started fine. But I took it for a service. I fully intend to learn the maintenance side but needed to get it sorted asap for work.. Big excuse there I know.... Anyway, the carb was cleaned, oil changed etc. Upshot is the bike ran perfectly. Yesterday, it wouldn't start again. I took the battery out and fully charged it yesterday but nothing! The starter is whirring but no kick in from the engine.. Has anyone any ideas? I really d…

Does anyone have any advice when changing the head gasket on my DTR 125? I have performed this operation twice now and ,surprise surprise, it has gone again and is blowing water (shud be coolant-I know..!) back down the barrel and out the exhaust. I have used gasket sealant on both occasions. Should I get the head skimmed (the barrel has been rebored and new piston fitted) or am I doing something wrong when I am refitting the head. The gasket has been fitted the right way up and at first the radiator was not losing any water..Also -can I skim the heead and top of the barrel with a bit ov wet and dry??
