I'm after some advice please guys, the starter clutch has packed up on my 535 virago so i got a repair kit to sort it,when i took the starter clutch off i found 2 cracks in it so obviously that is no good, the thing i am wondering is this the number of the starter repair kit i got is the same for a few Yamaha models so is it likely that the starter clutch will be the same on those as the 535,ie could i use one from another yamaha on my 535 because the 1 for the 535 is above 200 quid and bloody hard to find. Cheers Al

Hi all, apologies for this query as most of you will already buy solvent without even having to thinka about it, but... In the maintenance manuals and the like, whenever they describe taking something apart they mention cleaning certain parts with solvent. Also, to clean under the engine to check for a leak around the clutch lever for example, I would also be recommended a solvent. Whenever solvent is mentioned the advice is always to use one that won't damage seals etc if it gets somewhere you didn't want it. What solvent would people recommend? Are any certain brands the best, and can one solvent be used for all jobs or will I need different types? There m…

I bought a basket case tzr50 2007. The bike was used and abused to say the least, no electrics whatsoever, water had got in everywhere..Painstakingly gone through electrics, now I have all electrics (excluding headlights/taillights) but I have a good spark and the starter is spinning well...I have rebuilt top end new piston, rings, and gaskets. had carb to bits all looks good, no blocked jets, bowl fills with fuel. Reed valve appears to be ok. Turns over but refuses to start, seems that no fuel is getting to piston (if I put my finger in exhaust port no petrol, just oil I used on assembly)Thanks in advance if you could offer any advice. Oh I put the piston rings in wit…

Hi, my yzf750r is running cold, just over 60 Celsius (at the bottom of the gauge) when moving, goes up when stood/slow moving, I have changed the thermostat (second hand) still running at about 60c, I have tested the original stat and it opens up with boiling water and starts to close after 2mins, fully closed within 7mins, would anything else cause it to run cold ? Any help welcome Thanks Steve

Hi Folks My Thundercat has recently mysteriously developed a 'miss'. I'm hoping it's possibly just plugs and or leads. My (silly) question is: Does it have just 1 or 2 and where are they and how easy or much of a pain are they to replace. ? I'm hoping it's just this and not that some idiot from work, in my absence has been and messed about with it and potentially done some serious damage

Evening all, advice/help needed with one of those problems that niggle; something seems to be sucking the life out of my battery. Its new but every time I turn off the ignition the battery drains, allbeit slowly; the horn will operate but after about 5 mins it will only 'dink' . Once started the battery charges up fine; idiot lights brighten up etc. Could this be a bad earth? Cheers

Can any one help I have a problem with one of the rear wheel bearings. I was changing the bearing and when i tried to tap out the bearing it collapsed leaving the outer bearing casing still in the wheel hub. Its the single bearing side and i can not get anything in there to tap the bearing casing out from the other side as there does not appear to be any way of getting to it. Has any one ever had this problem and how did you get it out? cheers Paul

Hi, everyone. It looks like my bike is leaking gas out of the airbox. I tried to do a search on this and didn't find anything (maybe I just don't yet understand how this forum functions). Here's the back story: I got this bike (I've named it Blue) from a friend. He had the carb tuned up at a shop and I put it in. Once it was fitted, I was able to sort of rotate the carb from side to side. It seemed loose to me, but the tightening bands on the carb boot and the airbox were as tight as I could get them. The tank is just a bit rusty, and the petcock lever seems pretty stiff. It has a fuel filter in it, but the hoses seem a bit stiff as well. I also bought a …

I have an 78 XS250 with Mikuni bs32 carbs fitted and have the right hand cylinder running weak.I found on strip down of the carb the left and right hand carbs have different main nozzles fitted but the needles are the same. Not sure if this is causing the issue but I would like to start with a clean slate and have the same fitted. The bike idles and revs ok and gets up to speed fairly quickly despite a 14 stone lump parked on the seat,it tends to loose speed when takling an incline.Does anybody know of anyone who sells replacement parts for the bs32 carb as the parts I require are obsolite. Is the part I require cross reference to another bike? The part numbers are 341-14941-…

Hi all Have a XJ 650 Turbo, have spent a lot of money and time on her, have had guys meant to have stripped tunned and balanced the carbs etc. Only thing was ride for a while and all stops then the carbs havd to be redone (3 times). Have had enough of it now so took it on myself, stripped the carbs and cleaned the inide of the tank and sealed it, the stuff that came out was brown muck, now they told me they had done that, ha!!! The carbs had 1 float (black washer with long pin if you know what I mean, )totally jammed and 2 of the mixer screws with no heads (brass) had them drilled out and new ones inserted and sorted the float out. All put back then b…

I was riding and then I glanced at the dials and there were no lights or numbers! I think it is because of a bumpy ride... I have disconnected and reconnected the wiring around the battery but it did not fix the problem. All of the indicator lights and brake lights work and the bike works too.....but the dials are dead. Please help, could this be serious? And what should I do? Thanks

Hi Guys, I just brought 99 R6. It is really good condition. The only problem I have is that the indicator on the left side flashes fast then slow. Both of the bulbs are working.(so a blown bulb isnt the issue). Basicly I turn the left indicator on then they flash fast for a few seconds then flash normal speed then fast again for a few secs. Any ideas what is causing this?

  20. Hello everyone - I am in the process of repairing and bringing back to life a 2006 MT-03 which has been crashed and neglected. It was an insurance write off but the frame , fuel tank etc were untouched. I have been successful in sourcing a replacement swing arm and Akrapovic exhaust from ebay and all is going well but I have encountered my first issue and wondered if anyone might be able to help. Having replaced the handlebars I have found that the MT switches have little locating tabs on them which correspond to holes in the original handlebars. Has anyone had experience of removing them? Do the switches stay in place? I want to avoid the inconvenience of drilling the…
