  1. I have a 1984 FJ600 that ran perfectly until I did something, I’m not sure what. I pulled and cleaned the carbs (Mikuni BS 32 type 2) that are jetted Stage 3 with pod filters and a Kerker 4-1-2 system. Fuel mixture screw is 3 turns out, and jet needles are on the 3rd position as it has been for several years. I installed the larger main jet when I put the cone filters on and it ran well except for a slight flat spot just after ¼ throttle that cleared up before ½. The bike pulled hard all the way to redline in any gear. I adjusted the needles and fuel mixture screws and thing did not improve. I attempted to vacuum synch the carbs and in the process of all of this I ran …

  2. I recently purchased a used 1982 Yamaha SR250 from a seller here in my city. When I first got the bike everything seemed fine, but now the bike occasionally has trouble starting up. It makes a low revving noise, then kinda squeals and shuts off. Sometimes I get it started, but the engine sounds weak, and then it clunks out. The bike rides ok once I manage to get it started, usually I have to pull out the fuel choke and start it again, this usually gets it working. Still, startup issues aside, the engine always sounds weak. Whenever I am idleing at a stop light and sitting in first gear, the engine sounds so slow and weak, and it sometimes cuts out. The only way to keep it…

Hi I am about to purchase a XVS 125 Dragstar, and the shift pedal when i mounted the bike seemed to be slightly wobly. As i am new to the bike, do not know if this is common for shift pedals. Are the meant to be more stiff, and less wobbly, to change the gears ? Would like to know so i can challenge the seller if need be Many thanks

Hi, I'm about to do an oil change on my xvs650 (2005) Dragstar. I was wondering if the oil filter was a common filter fitted to other engines. Sometimes, if you know other makes it fits, can make it easier/cheaper to source. I think it would have to be the same as the 535 Virago, for one.

  7. I've just rebuilt the rear brake calliper on my 1999 DT125R, but BEFORE I RECONNECTED THE CABLE at the cable to the calliper at the calliper end (with bolt and copper washers), I thought I would check that the master cylinder was correctly pumping fluid from the reservoir - through the master cylinder - and along and out of the tube I had disconnected by the calliper. No matter how many times I pump the rear brake pedal/master cylinder, no brake fluid comes out of the disconnected end of the cable, and the level of brake fluid in the reservoir remains the same! Do I need to rebuild my master cylinder and/or renew the seals, or is there something obvious I am missin…

I've just bought a 1995 Yamaha Sr125 off of ebay (will be my first bike). I bought it as a non runner. The cam shaft is starting to wear, thus making a bad noise and engine has seized, looks like the owner neglected to maintain the correct level of engine oil. I have decided to try and get a second hand engine. The ones i have found have been from newer bikes. Will an engine from a newer bike, say 2000, fit straight onto my bike with no mods to the engine or bike? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, newbie on site (very good)- have a serious issue with my XVS 1300:(7,000 miles) Bike runs fine when standing - upto 1 hour - no issues - but when taken out for a run at 23 miles starts to degrade in running then at 30 miles cuts out and then will not run but will turn over and start running for a few seconds then cuts out (recommend do not try to push bike for 1.5 miles - very tiring!!). Solution so far - has been on a Dyno road - runs perfect - new plugs, air filter all checks out. NO lights on the speedo re the ECU no fault codes. The bike is an import from the states - hence if any parts needed you have to order them from the states. The mechanic thinks …

Gday fellow Enginebike peoples. Have a query...( no i don't know his name), looking through the DT 175 manual, it indicates that the crankshaft bearings and gearbox selector arms and gearbox bearings require greasing. now. the conundrum i have is this, grease and oil generally don't mix, can cause oxidisation and can turn your oil into a lapping paste ( free oversizing i believe it's called)... i have been known to be a touch cautious ( read paranoid) with bikes particularly the bottom end and box...( first box i have assembled and put together, normally never have to go past top end on my fours and two smokers). so long winded question... whos done it and have they h…

I have been driving my 96 seca 2 for abaout a month with no problems, then a few nights ago it started sputtering while i was going down the road. I filled the tank recently and needless to say i didnt think it was out of gas, but i pulled over and it died at this time, switched to res, and tried to start it. It would start and idle but as soon as i gave it some throttle it would die, i tried to switch to prime aswell with same result. Luckily i was on my way home and almost there so i walked it home, and decided to check on it in the morning. Next day i got up drained the carb bowls, the gas i drained into a shot glass looked a little dirty. I checked the vacuum lines as…

Hi! Just spent the last 3 hours odd looking for a manual for the Yamaha SR 125....... And I found one...... Soooo.... Thought I'd share it and save others the headache. p.s. Yes the page is Hungarian, so just click on "Letöltések" (guessing that means manual or something along those lines), then there is a service manual for the 1997 model, and an update for the 1999 model (adds stuff too the 1997 version). Didn't want to link through direct to the manuals; as someone's spent time and effort putting a website together the least I can do is not rip him off. Hope this helps someone. Thanks Jaz
