  1. Hi, I've put up with it for long enough, but now the "read owners manual" label on my tank is starting to annoy me. I've taken the waterproof layer off the top of it. And I've picked at it with my finger nails but it's bloody stubborn. Has anyone else got any suggestions, I don't want to damage my paintwork trying something stupid Cheers

Sadly, the Draggies gone, written off in the accidnet 3 weeks ago, so its down to one bike only. What a crackin little bike. Went out on the Virago yesterday for the first ride since. Shit, everytime someone was waiting to turn right across the road in front of me I felt like pullin up. Anyone else gone through this:unsure: Lovely weather though, went up around Whitworth/Griffydam/NW leics, ccol but glorious sunshine

New to this board (from Florida, USA), not new to motorcycles, but this has me stumped!! Just acquired what is supposed to be a 1982 Maxim 400. I've searched across the 'net and found pics and specs for a 1982 xs400 Maxim and they don't look anything at all like what I have. I found pics of a 1984 Maxim that looks exactly like what I have? The title shows the bike as a 1982. My question is: are there any rescources available that show the interpretation of the VIN number as to year manufactured, model, etc. I also have an xj650 Seca and I have a VIN reference for the XJ bikes. I've checked several Yamaha sites and can't even find "Maxim" listed as a Model. Any h…

  4. Hi just a small quirey, Looking to upgrade from my YBR125, i want i big'ish bike around 600cc and i have seen that honda have released a new modle this month the NC700X, its basicaly got a honda jazz engine cut in half in it and will only rev to 6500rpm at the start of the redline its claimed that its 0-75mph is faster than the cbf600 aswell, the suprising thing is it will do a stagering 78.8 to the gallon (4.55L), just wanting to know if yamaha have anything thats MPG is close to that which isnt a small capacity bike, i would prefere to upgrade to another yam as my YBR is so bloody reliable, and i havnt had much experiance with honda bikes however i am aware that t…

So I have an '05 Vstar 650 classic. I have a small gas leak from the front carb drain screw. At least thats where it seems to be leaking. It drips maybe 2 drops a day if I ride it. What would be the best thing to do? Should I clean the carb or could the problem be something else?

Well i know for a fact the Yamaha XT 200 i just picked up on the weekend only has 8 digits which are 15x - 000388. Not sure what year it is 1982-84? As it sits, it is in pieces but just needs a rebuild so this should be a fun project . If anyone can give me tips or links to certin things i may need to know that would help nicely, I'm 18 and this is my first rebuild. I'm very excited! Cheers!

This is my first post (other than my introduction). Forgive me if this is not the appropriate forum for this question. I am getting my dad's old 1968 Yamaha YL-1 back on the road. Hasn't been driven in decades. I restore vintage Volkswagens but I know nothing about motorcycles, so I appreciate any help greatly. I don't have the owner's manual so my question is simple, what oil should I use in it? It has a "Twin Jet 100cc" in it. Also, I'm a little confused. The bike fell while in storage and bent what I now know to be the oil pump cover on the side of the bike and all the oil leaked out. I bought a new cover for it (on its way) but it's strange to me …

  10. Hi all I've had a car driving license for 30 years and, after having purchased an XVS125, I'm after getting the bike one. Considering my two-wheels experience consists of riding mopeds when I was a teenager (I'm 48) and, once in a while, 50cc scooters since, what in your opinion is the best way to go about it? 1) CBT, getting some road experience, taking a few lessons at a later date then going for the DAS. 2) Getting a 4/5 days training package that includes CBT+DAS (+ test booking etc...). Thanks in advance

Hi all I was wondering what mods could be done to a bike (in my case an XVS 125) to increase its visibility? i.e, make it less likely that other drivers do not see it by by night and/or day. Please no "paint it fluorescent pink", "add huge laser beams..." jokes. I'm thinking mainly of spotlights (shame neon lights are not legal), cool looking reflectors and such.

Just been doing my oil change on the Divvy and the one thing I've noticed is masses of piting on the oil filter and general crap in behind the pipes. Are fender extenders worth it? Not the prettiest of mods, relatively easy to fit and not too expensive. Thoughts? Cheers! C.

I can see the scene.... In the IOM fire HQ and fire officer wants a new motorbike, "mmm how can I get a free one?, I know I'll call it a fire bike and the fire service will get me one" so he gets a Kawasaki ZX10R in cool fire birgade colours

Pheeeew, swapped onto the TDR now and oh f me i forgot how bloody hard it is to ride well. Yes the engine is very torquey and responsive for a 2 stroke but still, it is a 2 stroke running gopping great flatsides, not a recepie for smooth and steady progress. Compared to the DT....... Didn't take long for the mist to decend though, oh my god you can see why there are so few left, St Andrew himself would be cast out on one of these. What a motorcycle... Bring on the sunshine..............................

Hi, I'm looking for a top box/case for my XJ6, I already have the rack, but I don't really want to pay yamaha prices for a box as it won't get used very often. I have found http://www.motorbikesandparts.co.uk/givi-topbox-rack-for-yamaha-xj6a-and-diversion-09-p-20026.html , but just wondered if anyone else had fitted a non-yam one and if so who's make and how much? All advice appreciated as always.

  20. Should have put this up a couple of weeks ago but better late than never. My bike was leaking fuel from the LH carb, it was damp and a little wiffy (no puns) Well 2 strokes being what they are, like the wife not liking neglect, it bit me. Flooded out massively, almost had me walking home. Anyway TDR's being what they are, (a big motor stuffed in a 125 frame) its a bit tight so off comes the offending carb. Open her up clean out the carb, nothing visible but there was dirt on the cloth i cleaned it with. Whacks it all back together and........... nothing. Std options first.... Change plugs, old ones were sparking but you never know. Changed fuel, it had run…
