  1. Finally got round to getting this sorted. One of the previous owners really messed up the clocks, 2 of the bolts that hold the whole assembley together are missing, they are blanked off. Went out and bought replacement bulbs then realised the speedo uses 2, not 1 like the tachometer... So half my speedo is lit up. However I also replaced the one in the headlight, and only just realised that the headlight was always supposed to come on with the ignition.. Anyway, glad I can finally ride at night without problems

  5. Tyres? Avon. Avon, Avon,Avon,Avon, all the way, every time!! Nah, they were just brilliant on my Dragstar and are fantastic on my FJ (they even make Radials to fit wheels that are specifically designed for Crossply only!!), plus I usually find most people have no problems with them. They're my default.

  7. Unfortunately (or not!) we are not allowed to own guns in the UK, shotguns and air rifles yes but proper in your face "do you feel lucky PUNK" type guns no, it seems that the powers that be think we might decide that a cull of the local and national politicians would be the first and possibly their last action or we're not mature enough to handle these weapons. Shame really as I can think of a lot of people that the world would be better of without. Burglars - muggers - rapists - paedophiles - home grown terrorists to name but a few.

  9. You can do what you wanted with the oil, though. In the US, the 92-98 Diversion was known as the Seca II. It came with a different carb bank that did NOT run the oil through the carbs. Pretty much everyone else (including Canada) had that option, but not the US. It's meant to help the carbs warm up faster. You can just block it off. It'll make for longer warm-ups on cold mornings, but that doesn't sound like an issue for you. Here in the US, we commonly change the pilot jets to richen it a bit so it doesn't take 10 minutes to warm up because they're so lean from the factory. On the other side of the world, the Diversion came from the factory with an oil cooler installed starting in '96, I believe. There were no considerable changes made to the bike or engine design through the bikes whole life, though, so if you find one used somewhere, you can put it on any XJ600 Diversion/Seca II. It uses an adapter plate installed behind the oil filter to attach 2 hoses that run straight up the frame to a small radiator installed on the front of the frame behind the forks just below the tree. Check out XJRider.com, and you might find someone selling one there, or at least more info as I'm sure I remember someone saying they did it before.
