Greeting! I bought my Yamaha new 40 years ago. I have 2600 miles on it and runs great. I think I need rear shocks since it starts bouncing at around 50 mph so I was wondering if anyone had a line on where I could get some.

Hey, just figured id give some background about me since i blindly jumped into forums. I'm 15 years old and born into a motorcycle family, my sister and brother in law ride a harley, my parents ride a matched set of vulcans, and i have two Yamahas. I listen to good music (not rap or dupstep... i mean really?) classic rock and roll or older music with a beat is where its at, kinda sad when i mention Beatles, Rolling Stones, Nirvana, AC/DC, or Styx (only to name a few... a very little bit of whats on my iPod) and my friends look at me like im foreign life species. I'm very inclined into mechanics, love working on motors and constantly having project bikes or car…

  5. I acquired an 82 Maxim XJ650 about 3 months ago. Been riding like crazy since. Love this bike. Hit my first big hiccup. I have a hole in my right exhaust pipe. Very close to the back passenger peg but on the bottom of the pipe. The hole is about quarter sized and it has a crack that goes up the side of the pipe about 3". I doubt this is patch-able. It's not rideable. I tried. It sounds awesome but rides like sh*t. Feels like I'm out of gas. That being said, I need a cost effective replacement. My only dilemma is that this bike is in amazing shape. This small rust hole is the ONLY rust spot on the entire bike. The left pipe looks perfect. Granted, the inside of the pipes c…

Am rebuilding a pre divi XJ600. Not got the engine running yet, I am sorting out the loom and the electrics. What I need to know is should the oil light come on when you first switch the ignition on? or is it only when the oil level falls? I do not want to remove and check too much stuff if it is working correctly. Apart from the neutral light, is there any indication that the ignition is switched on? Phil

  8. Hi all, my name is Nathan, just snagged an '82 Yamaha XJ 550 Maxim, it's a blast. Having a little trouble, but hopefully I'll figure it out - shifter stuff. If you have any pointers, I'd love to hear your input. I've wanted to ride since I was a little kid, I always thought there must be something remarkably freeing about riding on a sunny day. Over the past few days, I've had these beliefs reaffirmed. My inner 12 year old is ecstatic. I'm really looking forward to getting to know more about bikes, maybe meet up with some people in my area for rides once I get better. Have a great day all!

So... I've been wanting a bike for so ridiculously long i cant even remember. When I had the money to get one, I had a wife to tell me no But... I finally won the argument, and am now the owner of a '99 SR125. It needs a bit of TLC as its has been standing idle for a LONG time. So far I have cleaned it up, drained the oil, changed the brake fluid, checked brake pistons and seals, fitted a new fuel line, rewired front lighting (It originally had side spots on it but one was broken so previous owner removed them but never rewired) and thats about it. There are a few cosmetic bits and bobs needed, and there are a few problems I am hoping to get some help with here .…

Gotta love forums like these. Terrific source for gobs of information. I'm trying to get my 750 to fire on a "IV" fuel line. (gas tank's no good.) Any tips? Ok, here's what I did - Used a piece of 1/4" clear plastic fuel hose to hook to the carbs (one per carb) about 10 inches long. Then I pushed the open end(s) each into a chunk of 3/8 id fuel rated hose, which became my "gas tank". Then, using a turkey baster (one of those long white plastic ones with a rubber squeeze ball on the end), I sucked up a load of (clean) gas. The tip of the baster fits perfectly into the 3/8 hose. I let the fuel gravity drain into the bowls (took about 3 "basters" each before they beg…

Just thought I would say a quick hello. I am from Abingdon and have been tinkering about with bikes for years . I dont like to keep them standard and always try to do my own thing with them. Panel beater / sprayer by trade. I bought possibly the ugliest bike in the world earlier in the year and after watching a short track race organised by Sideburn magazine , I decided to make my own and maybe use it on the track , starting with the run what ya brung stage and seeing if I had the balls and stamina to go any further . this is it so far , its on the road and now tuned and dyno'd, look forward to meeting everyone also getting help and helping i…

Hi I'm 23 and travel 55miles to work so decided that I wanted a bike as its a far cheaper way to get about and a lot more fun, so did my CBT and went searching for 125s. I read a lot of reviews on all sorts of bikes and decided to stick with a Japanese bike over a cheap Chinese one. I definatly wanted a comfy one as the journey takes about an hour and the cruser style ones seemed to look the comfiest, with their sofa like seats. The XV Virago had caught my eye and had brilliant reviews, so I decided to go and have a look at one I had seen for sale for £900. I met a woman who was selling it on behalf of her son and claimed he had hardly used it and it was always …
