Hiya guyz, Been offline for a while was tied down with work...so hope all the guyz doing well.. Would you guys tell me how would you identify faulty plug caps with a multimeter or any other means? My engine's got a lazy start, a heavy misfiring going on in front cylinder..like it fut futs doing well at lower gears. However you can still ride, the issue starts to appear right after you slower the bike in order to turn or at a zebra crossing. I have to accelerate greater than usual in order to make her move right after some stop. I checked spark plugs and the front cylinder had sooty black carbon build-up but the sparking points were clean at the gap…

Well after the modified Jardines were fitted I thought I would not need to re-jet however the bike seems to hold back in top gear before clearing a couple of times. Its almost like a sticking clutch but its not and its only happened since the pipes were fitted. Got it booked in with my mechanic on thursday but he says it may take a while to get the correct size jet fitted as we may have to try several to get it just right. Is this right, is there not a standard larger size to use if the pipes are changed? Or am I just not mechanically minded enough to understand? Thanks for any advice in advance guys!

I'm wondering if someone could post up a photo showing the indicator relay in situ on an XVS 650 Custom please. I need to replace mine as I'm fitting LED indicators, but can't seem to work out what to unplug. I know it's next to the battery, but there's several relays (or things that resemble relays) down there and the photo in the Haynes manual is only so much help (with it being black-and-white and tiny). Help me Obi-Wan!

I've had her a year, and been lurking on here for most of that time, and narrowly avoided having to sell her, but I've finally gotten around to customising my XVS 650 Midnight (I've posted pics before so I'm not going to do it again). So I've got a set of the Highway Hawk short-cuts on there, and they sound pretty damned sweet compared to the stock mufflers, and they're loud (but not too loud) with the baffles in... but the problem I've got is they're smoking worse than a teenager behind the bike-sheds! The manifold on the rear-pipe smoked a lot which I suspect that was down to it cooking off the metric f-ton on penetrating oil I had to dump on the bolts to ta…

Has anyone done their own valve clearances? I had bought my bike with 12,100 miles on the clock, At 17,000 I had done all the basic serviceing, not knowing when the previous owner had done the work. Valves were one job I didn't want to tackle, after reading that the fuel system had to come off. I strip the tank, false head covers etc off myself. My mobile mechanic called in and he checked the valve clearances They were within the tolerances, . so no adjustments were necassary. Mechanic said if adjustments were needed, then we would've had to remove the carbs, Has anyone had to remove the carbs as part of serviceing the valves? Also, what mileage do you do the v…

hello, i was wondering if there is a motorbike out there that uses the same parts as an xvs 125, i know there is an xv out there and for some reason the parts are easier to obtain than the xvs, i wondered for example does the cylinder head fit either or ? and of course the gasket sets etc, the xv stuff is cheaper than xvs stuff by a fair few shillings, for example i am sure yamaha had adopted a piston from another bike to produce the xvs engine rather than redesign a piston from scratch, can anybody enlighten me please

Hello! Hope you're all well. Was wondering if any of you can help? Yesterday, after riding my XVS650 for about 20 minutes, I noticed that my throttle seems to be getting ‘stuck’. I slipped into neutral, opened the throttle and let go – the bike continued revving (throttle open). Switched off the engine, let it cool down for a bit then started again, same thing happened. The bike continues the revs until you click into another gear. I left her over night and she seemed fine, until the engine warmed up. Then the same thing would happen. Anyone have any idea’s? Could the cable need replacing? Or do you think a bit of cable oil will do the trick? Any …

When I bought my bike it had the Yamaha hard saddlebags with leather covering on it. It had no hinges as such just a piece of material with 3 bolts securing each side and the locks on the opposite side. It looks OK but I have realised that there should be chrome hinges which have obviously been taken off. I talked to a yamaha dealer to see if I could buy new hinges and was told it was not possible and by the way a new set of panniers is just under a grand. Does anybody know where I could get some hinges? I think they are made in the states and wonder if its worth trying to contact someone over there, have tried all normal routes, ebay etc, and turned up nothing. …

Looks like the tyres on the Virago aren't goin give me much more than another 200-300 miles. That means theyll only have done approx 2750 t0 3000, which i think is piss poor. Based on previous topics on tyre life/performance etc on the site, I'd like to try a pair of Avon Venoms. Tyre size is front 100/90-19 57h, rear 140-90-15 70h. Anyone know of any reason for me not to proceed with this? Any advice greatly appreciated Thanks
