Hi all, I probably should have researched this before I got this bike, but got a bit excited about the XVS650 that I bought one over the weekend, it's an 05 model, has 65,000 kms on the odometer. This is my frist shaftdrive system so I'm not sure hwo to maintain it besides keeping the oil full in the final gear? Is there anything else I need to know? bearing in mine I'm new to biking so no monkey wrenching experience.

Hi all ,recently replaced the battery on my 1300 midnight star I filled it charged it and fitted all as in the instructions everything was fine for a few weeks and then I had problems with the drive belt pully (thats another story)this took a couple of weeks to sort but with this problem hopefully solved I tried to start it only to find the battery completley flat ,so on with the Optimate, 24 hours later still not charged could only get it up to 11volts, when I tried to contact the company to get help I found they will only respond by E mail .They have now told me if I wish to claim under warrenty I will have to send it back at my own cost and if no fault is found they w…

Hello everyone, I own a 650 DragStar which I purchased one year ago from a previous owner. I just noticed recently that there is some sort (or half installed) liquid cooling system on it. However, there is no radiator. I searched over the internet and I couldn't find anything about this but I found a picture with another DragStar with the same system installed (I attached the picture). You can see a black plastic container near the first cylinder. https://www.dropbox....wywe2net/11.jpg https://www.dropbox....t8vks0ym/22.jpg Does anyone know anything about this "system"? Is it a known customization? How is it supposed to work? It doesn't seem to work now bu…

Hi I'm a new owner of a DragStar 650 and so far loving it, I bought panniers fitted them and unfortunately they melted all over my shiny exhaust all sorted and shiny again but I don't want it to happen again, I had them on the tightest fastening I'm thinking of putting extra holes in the Center part so they lace up tighter?? Also I've been looking for some daisy cutter exhausts but some "don't fit classics" what's a classic?? Thanks peeps x

looks like i'm going to be buying myself a brand new Star but i have a minor question,it seems the 2011 & 2012 black bikes have a satin finish trims on the tank & rear fender + black fork bottoms, where as the one in the showroom has chrome trims with silver fork bottoms. i'm pretty sure this one is actually a 2010 model,am i right chaps ? if it is am i being reasonable expecting a discount since it's 2 years old really ? i'm not too bothered to be honest as i actually prefer the chrome trims anyway but i am a Yorkshire man & so tight as Moby Dick's ring piece.

During a general going over, I checked the speedo cable to find it loose. I'm talking about the nut holding the cable to the wheel housing. It was not too far from coming right off and I dont doubt a replacement cable would not be cheap. Just a simple thing to check but easily missed.

As the title suggests, does anyone know what the average mileage you can get once the fuel light comes on. Coming to work today I hit 16 miles I think before I got to a petrol station. That was traveling on the motorway at around 60mph ish. Was starting to panic as I don't usually do more than around 10 miles before I fill up. It would be good to know where the critical limit is before I might have to push lol.

Not that I'm in the market for a new bike or anything but I have noticed the Yanks get a more extensive selection of Yammy cruisers than the current measly 3 available in the Uk. Especially the Stryker: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=yamaha+stryker&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=HOrPT6mGGoSf0QW0o83JCw&sqi=2&ved=0CGQQsAQ&biw=1310&bih=700 And the Raider: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=yamaha+stryker&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=HOrPT6mGGoSf0QW0o83JCw&sqi=2&ved=0CGQQsAQ&biw=1310&bih=700#hl=en&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=yamaha+raide…

Hi guys, My bike has become a terrible crawler as it doesnt pick up properly. So every time I want a reasonable speed I have to accelerate more so more fuel consumption. And I feel the plugs do overheat, even the porcelain white part has become brownish, front cylinder accumulates carbon deposits on the plug. I sense unburnt fuel everytime the engine running. I tried replacing plugs with two older ones (as shops are closed today) but still the problem seems to continue. Whats more when I accelerate it gradualy increases revs and tends to stay at a particular rev speed even if I release my hand from accelerator Engine stays stuck at a higher rev even when the a…

hi guys i'm currently dealing with my local Yamaha stockist & may well be the proud owner of a lovely XVS950 in the next week or so,however in my exitement i forgot to measure the width accross the foot boards to make sure it will fit through my gate. Yam's website lists the bike as 1000mm wide which will be with the bars straight i'd presume, now the maximum width of my gate is 800mm so i'm wondering if the bike will fit through my gate,i'm not too worried about the bar width as with a bit of jiggling i'm sure they will go through however if the foot boards are wider than 800mm it will have no chance,i'll most likley burst into tears at that point. so to my questi…

My draggie's getting a new set of tyres next weekend, as the bridgestones she's got on have done 11000 miles. The front is down to 2mm tread, and the rear is quite a bit flat in the middle. So I'm thinking Avon Venoms as recommended by a few here. The question I have to any of you who have avons fitted to this bike: Yamaha lists the front tyre size as 100/90-19 in the manual. But Avon seem to only list 100/90-18 and 110/90-19 sizes on their website, and list the 110/90-19 size for the custom 650. So what front tyre size venoms do you lovely people have? Will the 110/90-19 fit my front wheel?

Quick question, Has anyone done anything to reduce the amount of vibration that can come through the stock floorboards? On the longer runs this can get a bit distracting, so thinking I might try and reduce it somewhat. Cheers, Andrew.

Morning! Just after a bit of advice. I'm looking at buying an xvs125 and, probably getting a little ahead of myself, was wondering what options there are when changing the exhaust. Are there any exhausts which could be fitted which make the bike sound beefier? Any recommendations? Sorry if this sounds newb, but I am a newb so what can I say!? Cheers
