Hi all, Lovely day today, thought I'd go for a nice long ride, first of the year ! Have been starting her every 3 weeks or so no problem over the winter, letting her warm up and charge the battery. Well, started ok, bit sluggish at turning the motor over but started. First thought was fresh fuel so off to Asda. Queue of 10 cars so went round the block (any excuse) about 3 miles in total. Suddenly started to missfire, no power for a couple of secs then cleared ok. Did this twice, put it down to water in the fuel tank as she'e been standing for 3 months in the garage. Filled up at Asda then hit the starter........one slow turn the click, click....GUTTED. …

Hi all I have just recently bought Dragstar 650. I know speed was never going to be as good as my 600 Bandit. But I get 80mph flat out, is this normal?

  3. I ride one if these snd have scorched my leathers and last Saturday my leg too (ouch!) on the exhaust pipe. This only happens when stationary and although I'm geting better at avioding this painful experience every now and again I forget at my peril!!! I've seen something on the internet that looks like a sort of metal sleeve with holes in it that is fixed with jubilee clips. Was wondering if anyone has heard of these or used them. Don't really want to use exhaust bandanges or indeed end up using bandages on my leg either come to think of it! Any advice please . . .

Good day all! Just picked up the Virago and was just looking to see if anyone had any input before I started tearing it apart. Here's the quick story; Floods BAD on startup attempt. When it occasionally fires up, I have to hold the throttle wide open and it'll shoot fuel out of the exhaust. It was improperly stored without stabilizing fuel in the tank and I think the carbs will need to be torn apart and cleaned thouroughly to remove varnish and/or gunk to regulate fuel flow properly. Anyone think that that is the best place to start? Any other ideas? It's been great riding weather here in Nova Scotia. I hope you are all enjoying the same.

I've been wanting a 250cc cruiser to make my commute a bit cheaper petrolwise and a bit more comfortable. I've got my eye on a 250 Dragstar. Since it's going to be spending a lot of time on the motorway, I'd like to change the gearing to suit. I've done a bit of research and from what I can tell it looks like its predecessor, the XV 250 Virago, was pretty easy to mod but the Dragstar (crap name btw, makes it sound like a bloke in a dress) has a funny sized chain which reduces your options for sprockets. Is it possible to chuck the 428 chain and get, say, a 520 chain and then replace the sprockets with something like 17T front, 43T rear? How much work would be involved?…

  14. Started by Grim,

This is something Ive not tried before. The bike is a XVS Dragstar 125. Do i need to undo the allen bolt holding the internals together, thats under the bottom of the fork ? Or can I........... Take out the fork. Undo the top, remove the spring. Then after draining oil, but the fork bottom in a vice and remove the seal by pulling/pumping (hard) the top stanchion ? Any information would be appreciated. :-)

Hello there New guy from the UK here Just have to pay a small bomb to get my 3rd set of tires on my XVS1300a the 170/70B16 rear means I only have the dunlops or bridgestones to choose from and here in the UK they rip us off on that rear tire. I read that you can change to the 180/80 or 180/65 rears, that are also a lot cheaper. and that gives you the Avon Cobra and Mezter ME880 and Michelin commander II as extra choices. I'd rather have a more sports type tyre than classic look. What would you guys recommend?

Hi all, Would anyone have any suggestions of what type of wiring I should be using for wiring in the following: 12v cigarette socket - which will be used to charge things like a phone etc. autocom power supply additional indicators (part of the saddle bags and need to be removable, so some kind of connecter will be required) CB power supply I already have the sat nav wired up but it obviously runs to the front of the bike (would be hard to see the screen if it was behind me lol) The aim is to run the wiring from under the seat (obviously) to the Trunk and Saddlebags (indicators only). I will also have to add fuses along the way (close to the battery) maybe…

  18. Ok, so i got a hypercharger which i was told was off an XVS650 Turns out that apparently it does not fit an XVS650 at all....it could be an 1100 Could any of you lovely people with these bikes that have hyperchargers tell me whether this is a 650 or 1100 hypercharger? I know its not THE best piccy and until it gets returned to me i cant post anymore, but thought you might know just by looking at it....... It has a rubber pipe thing coming out of the back and also what looks like a mounting bracket too - which you cant see in the piccy.
