Yamaha Virago and Star range etc.

  1. Started by Fishfearhim2,

Hi, I've just bought a 1994 XV 535 Virago. The bike has sat used for 5 years in a garage. I collected it on Sunday when the seller proudly announced that he had managed to get the bike running. He had put some fresh petrol in the tank and jump started it using the battery on his car (not sure that's good thing to do?). He said that the bike was running for over 20 minutes as he trying to get some charge back into the bike battery. When I arrived the bike battery was totally flat, so the seller connected jump leads to his car again and with full choke the bike started. I seem to remember being told it's bad to run a motor with a battery of much higher amperage connected, s…

Got a letter from Yamaha + call from dealer about this today. Yamaha is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 XVS95/CY (V Star 950/V Star 950 Tourer) motorcycles, manufactured from October 2008 through August 2011, and model year 2007 XVS1300/CT (V Star 1300/V Star Tourer) motorcycles, manufactured from August 2006 through March 2007. There may not be a proper seal between the fuel pipes for the fuel injectors and the fuel hose that connects them due to an improperly molded fuel hose. Consequence: Over time, pressurized fuel can begin leaking at the hose connection points, which could result in a fire hazard. Remedy: Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will…

Does anyone have a spare Yamaha sissy bar lock. Yamaha sell them in lock sets with 2 for sissy bar/windshield and 2 for luggage. I only need one for the sissy bar. Hopefully I can get keys cut if I have the lock number.

Hi Guys, Just a quick post to say i have found a really good site that has online motorbike and ATV manuals. The site has full colour photos of each step of any job you want to do to your bike. I have my XV 125 and have just recently done new clutch and steering bearings and it has been a lifesaver. The site is: CYCLEPEDIA check out the following link: http://www.cyclepedia.com/ The complete list of manuals available is here: http://www.cyclepedi...online-manuals/ The cost is good too. I paid $24.95 for a 1 year access for the XV 250 manual (which is almost the same as my XV 125) You only have to pay $42.92 for a lifetime access to the manu…

Hi, and happy new year to you all, ive been pondering pulling a trailer this summer with my 1300, and have researched all the implications, type approval, insurance, legal aspect etc and its a definite possibility i may pursue... it looks 'again' like i'll have to import the hitch from America...although im not a fan of the dreaded import duty, UK customs have already had enough out of me......do any of you know anywhere in the UK where i may be able to purchase a tow bar/ tow hitch for this bike......? in fact, is there a UK manufacturer ...?. Any advice would be gratefully received Yours in anticipation Phil

  11. Started by neversaydie,

Been doing some servicing today. When I fired the bike back up, oil was leaking from the filter cover plate, cause I must have nicked the outer o ring when refitting. Im not worried about that as new o rings should sort it., but I also noticed a steady drip from 20 - protector- on the dwg. I dont know what it protects as I cant find anything that fits in the protector in the servoce manual. Im guessing here that there might be a presure switch under the protecto and that the dropping is due to the leaking past the o ring? I never touched the protector so nothing shoukld have affected its performance, whatever it is Can anyone tell me if Im right, and that rep…

Hi guys, Since I have seen most of the guys here converting their bikes into bobbers..I wanna know if you have ever used fiberglass parts on your bikes...I recently saw some cool japanese modified bikes exactly like harleys...they had metal plates chrome finishes and excellent paint job..I wanna convert my thing into something cool...I went through lot of web tutorials on fiberglassing...am pretty sure that there might be guys here with fiberglass experience...please share ur know-how with me. Fiberglass chemicals are hazardous as I gather...please make a writeup on all the important stuff regarding the subject..will be helpful for all..thanks in advance...

  16. Hi There I've just bought a 2004 6k miles xvs 125. I've only done 53 miles all through London traffic and I always avoid to use first gear because I feel it much to short to use in traffic. I am considering changing the front sprocket making it bigger. Maybe just one tooth but I was told that just one tooth will not make to much difference. Any feedback on this?

Hey guys i have been pondering about changing my front tyre as its starting to crack around the walls and also its still a white wall tyre (which looks stupid being the only white wall tyre on the bike) so i was wanting to change the front to a nobbily to carry on the "bad ass" theame that im going for. But the questions i have are: Will i loose grip on the road? Can you get the right size to fit on a Draggie? And will it be a rough/er ride? Its still a "thought" and not a 100% yes im gunna do it, just after a few opinions really Cheers Noise

Hi guys, I should adjust tappet screws on front of front cylinder and rear of rear cylinder as there is an oil leak at both ends. Could be an issue with O-rings there. I think the fitting socket for bolts would be 22mm? I feel like the frame is blocking the adjustment as they seem to be hard for a tool to reach? Can someone tell me the O-ring sizes I should buy and the precautions I should take? Thank you!
