My exhaust is a black 2-1 pipe, looks kinda crummy but dont got the money for a new one till next year... Saw some cafe racer and bobbers used exhaust wrap for a badass look on the headpipes, but I heard different views on the wrap itself... positives/advantages: Some claim it moves heat faster away from the engine, which is good to keep engine cooler?... or having wrap keeps less heat around your legs area+leather chaps someone mentioned haha?, so protects against yer feet gettin burned (my feet never touch headpipes hehe, but i guess some do, prob one CL 350 pipes with crappy gaurds hehe). negatives/disadvantages: Others claim it makes the exhaust hotter, blui…

Hey guys been awhile since I posted on here. Last time I posted I was thinking of making a bobber build out of it. Now the project has started! I have a friend in Ohio who is building it for me and we are up to the point where we need tires before we get the fender on. I need some help though with tires and conversions. I know the front tire is 18"/3" and the back is 18"/3.5" but we want to use a much bigger back tire. My buddy says to find one with 5-6" tire in the back. I am not sure what to look for at all. You guys think you could help me out? Here are some pictures also. Thanks for the help!

so I have this after market relay flasher http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-pin-Electronic-LED-Flasher-Relay-Fix-Blinker-Light-84_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5884eab937QQitemZ380187097399QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories and it does not work for my xs. What should I do? The old turn signal relay is a lot brighter than the new one, also one turn signal turns on and stays solid which I think means it does not recognize that there is a turn signal there.

Hey guys, http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/07BLKABC.gif So Slimline style is #1 and Wideline style is #3... Is there a functional difference with them? Otherwise i may just get the wideline, not sure but think it would look good on a cafe bike (seems like everyone uses the slimlines though). Thanks!, Arian

Hello! Very nice forums, I've read all I could find here about the ct1 and learned quite a bit. That being said, I know zero about motorcycles in general and googling the ct1 hasn't come up with much (although parts seem cheap and plentiful!) so I'm hoping you guys can help me out. I'm looking at this bike: http://albany.craigslist.org/mcy/1656792320.html Seems like a decent deal and I could use a project since my vintage VW (car) is just making me depressed. I emailed the seller to find out how deep into "project status" it is. Can you tell me some other questions I should ask? Is this going to be a high maintenance bike? I can do basics, but not sure if I would wa…

My local vinyl cutter/signwritter can do a rough copy from the picture on the Haynes manual but wants £150 for the artwork. I have contacted Yamaha but they wernt helpful. Thanks

So my buddy and I was bleeding out the brakes and we tightned the bolt for the brake but something is wrong it. When I pull the brake it is super mushy but the it is also really hard to turn the wheel when it is on the center stand. I believe its the brake pad rubbing against the caliper, but when testing the brake by running at speed it does not really brake at all. I am stumped guys, what did I do wrong?

I just picked up this bike last Fall so have not had much time to poke around it nor do I know much about its history. It's an 82 XS400 Heritage Special and I was having an issue getting it started when cold. I usually had to boost it to get it to turn over fast enough then when it did start it only ran on one cylinder for about 30 seconds or so before the second one kicked in. After that the bike would idle smoothly and run and pull strong with no misses. It also started and ran just fine when warm. Did not have time to investigate any more on it before it had to go into Winter storage but it will be coming out of hibernation soon and I am wondering where I should start …

So I am looking for some rearsets with no luck and I am going to settle on some tarozzi rearsets. One problem though, does anyone know what is the difference between the yamaha xs and the xj? are they identical? the rearsets that I am looking for are labeled for 1980 xj400, while my bike is a 81 xs400.
