Are XS500 engines noisey by design? I have a 1975 C model with only 5200 miles on it. The engine runs very well, has good compression and no visable smoke or oil leaks. At any rpm above 3500 it sounds like any other air cooled twin, below that and especially at idle its quite noisey. If I had to guess, I would say that the noise is coming from the right side of the crankcase and the right side of the valve cover. I'm sure its all timing chain related. The chain tensioner is just a bogus spring loaded affair that really is not adjustable ( sorry Yamaha, the adjustment proceedure in the shop manual is all BS, the tensioner is free to move up and down regardless of how tight …

Hey,I just bought a 75 rd200 that wouldn't start. I wasn't sure why because the p/o told me he thought it was in the transmission. not wanting him to know it wasnt that bad, and trying to bring down the price, I offered him much lower than he wanted and he bit. We loaded it up in my truck and I drove it home, after ordering a new battery tender and manual off ebay, i looked in the gas tank and low and behold its filled with rust. So a 35 year old bike with 7,000 miles was stored forever so long that the gas in the carbs had what looked like curtled milk in it. So I felt the need to share with someone and here I am. I will post pics as it progresses.

Do you guys know if the axle, bolt, shims, spacers, and adjuster from the xs400 18" is the same as a 16" xs400 special? Can I just swap out wheels?

And I know sweet @#$2 all about points and carbs, I've taken the carbs out and have started cleaning them up but I am only getting spark to the one side, I've tried switching plugs, both fire and I have swapped coils and both will fire. So from what I have read its a timing issue with the points? Go easy I am a rookie with these things and just trying to breath some life back into this old bike. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hey guys been awhile since I posted on here. Last time I posted I was thinking of making a bobber build out of it. Now the project has started! I have a friend in Ohio who is building it for me and we are up to the point where we need tires before we get the fender on. I need some help though with tires and conversions. I know the front tire is 18"/3" and the back is 18"/3.5" but we want to use a much bigger back tire. My buddy says to find one with 5-6" tire in the back. I am not sure what to look for at all. You guys think you could help me out? Here are some pictures also.

I want to put a CDI ignition on my '74 TX500 but all that I can find are for XS650's. Are the points systems any different from each other? I am looking at the Pamco Electronic Ignition Kit on http://www.mikesxs.net/mikesxs-electrical....category_id=2.1

hey guys I am looking at sito mufflers because the complete exhaust system is too hard to find. Is the thing on the right a midpip/balancer for the stock headers? Also would I be gaining anything from these mufflers since the headers are stock? its suppose to be 218 dollars, is it a good price or do anyone of you guys know anywhere cheaper I can get them?

Anybody know how to go about getting a new bike imported here to the US.? I would love to get my hands on the new XT1200 Super Tenere but they are not offered here or in Canada. What a incredible bike and loaded with technilogical advances too! Maybe you know somebody at Yamaha Motor Corp. that can help. I also have a friend that desires one as well. You will too I am sure. If you are unaware of this bike google it. There also are post on youtube of the bike including ads from Yamaha. It seems like we always get cheated on the good stuff here.
