hello all. i have a 77 xs360 with some carb troubles. i had some trouble with the bike revving really high and not coming back down to idle. so i just soaked the carbs over night in pine sol solution. it worked amazingly! they are pristine! but still having problems, although its better, with the bike not coming back down to idle. my thinking is one of the butterflies is staying open just enough to let more air in than the other. the throttle cable returns nicely, i lubed the cable really well. if i rev the bike up to 3000 rpm it stays there and i have to kill the bike. i thought it may be a sticking slider but they both seem to return just fine. the only other thing i t…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISzwJeLWlME 1976 Yamaha xs360... if you listen, you will hear the bike idle fine, but once you rev it a little bit, it will keep going and just sit at about 3-4 rpm. You have to use the kill switch to slow it down to a normal idle. Just so you know, its not the throttle cable (checked). thanks for any help!!

Greetings, all!!! Been lurking around for a few weeks and have found a bunch of helpful information, already, so thanks for that!!! I'm in the process of reviving a hybrid ('80 XS400SG motor in '79 XS400F2 frame) into a cafe-styled streeter. The bike sat in *my* garage for 15 years and in someone else's for an unknown period before that. It ran decently before I put it away... So, questions - I want to put a '78 XS750 triple tank on it, but the tank's not local, so I can't measure it first. Anyone know how well the 750 tank matches up to the stock 400? It *looks* similar enough to convert easily if there's a small difference. Main concern is that the petcock bein…

Ok, so I finally got around to switching out the bars in my cafe project. The new bars look great (will post pix once I get things back together), but nearly all of my cables are waaaay too long. Anyone happen to know the appropriate lengths for clutch cable, front brake cable, speedo cable and possibly throttle on a 1979 XS400_2F with superbike bars in place of the stock buckhunters? The current clutch cable (may or may not be stock) is 51.5", current throttle is 31.5". Haven't measured the brake or speedo, yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to avoid the trial and error method on this one!

Hi Team I have been working on this bike for a little while and have just done a compresion test and one side is 110 PSI the other 120PSI with a few drops of oil it changes to 140 PSI and 180 PSI so looking at doing the rings and valves it also blows smoke after a long run. Any advice would be great, also doing the cam Chain at the same time. Cheers Chris

I have a '74 DT175 Enduro that had been stored in a barn for many years. It had limited spark, so I replaced the plug, pulled the flywheel and cleaned the magneto and Stator plates, and I cleaned points and condenser and all of the electrical contacts. I got decent spark after all of that. I pulled and cleaned the carb (it was not too bad). After all of that I could not get it to fire. I checked the compresssion and it tests out at 70. So any suggestions for next steps?

Hi and thanks once again to all those people who helped me finally get my ct2 started. Took it for a quick ride over the weekend and though there are a few things that will need working on over time i now know that i have a good basis to start with (and something that starts first time every time!) Well Im going to pull her apart and have a friend that can soda blast her so need to look at paints for the fenders and engine. Local dealer is not much help and am keen to get that great finish you see in the magazines. Any ideas in what colourand type of paint that is used? How does the engine not overheat when the cooling fins are also painted? I have a feel…

Hello folks, New to this site. I just got a 1980 DT175. It doesn't run, but the odometer says it only has 1200 miles on it. Seems to be in good shape. I am just cleaning it up right now and tinkering. I took the cover off the magneto side and there was about 8 or 9 tablespoons of oil that came out. I don't think this one has points, so I am not sure this is normal. Do I have an oil leak through the seal or is this normal? Thank you in advance.

Hello everybody! I have a question about magneto compatibility. I have a 72 LT2 with a fried mag. it's a 6v system with three coils and 4 wires + neutral sw. wire. Does anybody know if there is another yamaha model that uses this same mag? yamaha parts shows nothing on the LT2 except crankcase a fish. looking at other models iv'e found varying part no's some with two coils some with three. I assume the three coil models are 6v and the two coil are 12v. anyone have a wiring diagram or manual for an LT2 or 3? I think maybe the gt80 would work but would nessesitate swapping bulbs to 12v? Ive had no luck locating a replacement and would rather not spend the $200 on a rewind i…

So I got back home tonight, at dusk, pulled into the garage and noticed I have no headlight. Seeing as how I have no lights in my garage, I have not tested a thing yet, aside from seeing if any other lights were out. Could I ask for some information, such as part numbers and likely causes etc. My other problem is that when riding the bike hesitates between 4k and 5k RPM, is that normal or is there something messed up in the carbs? If someone can talk me through this, I would greatly appreciate it.

So last night I messed with the clutch adjustment as per instructions elsewhere on the forums, and got it somewhere a lot more comfortable. Since my rib is still busted up and the doctor said I still can't ride until the end of the month, I took it around my drive-way to get a feel for it and see if that's where I'd like it. I pop the clutch on accident, and the bike dies. No big deal, I'll hit the electric start, which has worked incredibly faithfully so far. This time there's just a click. The bike is warm, and I kick start it and it fires right back up, happy as can be. I turn it off in the garage, electric start only clicks, but the kick start fires it back up once ag…

Hello everybody !!! I´m new in this forum, I enjoy the bikes in Argentina and I show you my favorite bike: Yamaha GT 80 Mini Trail. Actually I have one originally ( black color ) and I´m restoring 2 units. It´s a rare model sold in the early 80`in Japan, Argentina, Chile and one time I found photos of a 82´Yamaha GT in UK. The model that was sold in USA is completely different ( only a few parts are the same ). Please if someone of you have more information I will receive greatly.Yamaha GT 80 Mini Trail http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5160/yamahagt80.jpg http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/1885/dsc03576z.jpg http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/8919/…

Hey, I've got a friend who's 1980 XS400 SG model with an engine that's got oil full of metal. The easiest and cheapest would be to swap in a good engine, and we've found one. However, it's the more "squared off" version (don't know what year) and I'm betting it's not electronic ignition. This will be much simpler than adding transistorized ignition to a points model, as all the stuff is there... I just need to know if the head and the cam are the same as far as if the bits just bolt up. Thanks!

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. For whatever reason I've been having trouble posting. Now I can't use the messaging system on YOC. Apparently I've had my permissions removed?? Anyway... I used a tiny K&N filter (62-2480) for my crankcase breather. They use to be under $10 from autozone, but I just checked and it comes up as $22 now. I've had this one laying around for years. I attached it to a 45° 1/2" copper street elbow. With the smaller end in the filter, the larger end fits loosely over the breather vent. I put a couple o-rings over the vent. I believe they were 9/16" x 3/32", but I'm not positive. I put 1 between the 2 rings on the breather ve…

Hello Friends I was wondering if anyone had a photo of under the left side engine cover electronics? A Tweaker owned the bike before me and was working on the wires there. I can already tell some wire are wrong for the do not match the color sticker on the case. I did find a photo online but that one had only 4 wire hook ups. My bike has the 4 wires but also another spot for a 5th wire. Help!!! A photo would put me on the right track. The bike is a 1975 dt125 Thanks
