  3. Hi there, My bikes a 1977 Yamaha XS 400 2E - 2G5 series frame number. trying to do two things, 1 ) fix an electrical / charging problem 2 ) understand the electrics better I was out for a ride the other day, bout 60 miles / 2 hours, temperature low 80's, left turn signal pilot went solid after about an hour and a half, small while later the signal fuse melted ( pilots went out ), after about 30 mins, bike running badly - stutters, backfires, power decrease on hills - then stalls. 10. ________________________________________ Hello ! We have a silver 1972 Yamaha RT1 360 with a 6 volt system which puts out 11.5 at idle to almost 16 volts when rev'ed. We replaced the 2 wire voltage regulator with 2 other used 6 volt regulators with the same results. You can guess what is does to the rare 6v head light bulbs......I can not think all 3 6 volt regulators are bad but, then if they were good how could we have such high voltage at the H.L. socket ? So, I hook up an old 30 watt 12v bulb and it was real bright for like 30 seconds then poof.... I noticed if you wiggle the ignition/head light switch the head light changes brightness.... certainly, this couldn't b…

ok. so i spun a connecting rod bearing. seeing as how i have someone that can machine my crank the easiest and cheapest way to repair it would be to buy over sized bearings. the problem is that when i called the dealership they have 4 different sizes with no specific measurements. only 1, 2, 3, or 4. does anyone know the details of these numbers?

I'm in great need of the sidestand mount from any year IT 175. If you have a defunct or junk frame that you're about to discard, think of me. That's cuz the mount has to be cut off the old frame. Thanks for any help.

  16. Hi to all, looking for a little help with my 79 xs 250,the bike drives me nuts at the moment, had a lot of starting problems, which have been sorted pretty much, new plugs, new points, new condenser, new plug caps etc & it was running fine, however at the moment even though the fuel should shut off automatically via the vacuum operated tap,it does'nt,I have fuel in the cylinders and of course the bike rarely starts,I have tried to use a rebuid kit on the fuel tap but it's still allowing fuel to pass and flood the carbs. My question is this does anyone know of another Yamaha fuel tap that will fit my tank and do away with the pain in the backside vacuum rubbish,I realise that I…

Greetings all, I've been out riding quite a bit and the bike is going well but not in the wet. If anyone has any advice on this one it would be mucho appreciated: When it's wet enough to pull water up off the front tyre, the bike will go for a bit, nothing for a bit, then go for a bit a couple of times with maybe a backfire or two and then stop dead. If the engine's hot it will start after a short wait but sometimes go/stop/go/stop again. I'm suspecting water getting into the coil. The lead is a bit loose at the coil and I've tried to seal it but that didn't work. Taking the plug out it has a bit of orange spark and it looks like that's where the problem is at but…

Alright, the one last thing bugging me with my bike before I can accept her as she is: sorry for the extremely terrible video but I'll do my best to narrate: It sounds like an air leak coming from near the carb boots. I can hear the chirp up to about 3800 RPM and then after that the engine noise either blocks it out or it doesn't happen. When I accelerate the rate of the chirping goes up with the RPM. I've been googling and the closest sound I found was a CB550 with a blown head gasket. I also noticed a bit of oil bubbling from the spark plug socket, which I thought was the original culprit. I drained some of the excess oil to within the levels, a…
