Howdy again! During the summer I picked up a dirt cheap DTR that turned out to be a bit ropey, I had plans to tart it up a bit, maybe get it on the road etc etc...anyhow the frame is still sitting in my garden with the engine locked in by a bastard of a pivot bolt that I just can't shift. Here's the DTR... Then this week a mate offered me an F reg '89 DT for a £100 with a seized engine. So I went and got it. Now the questions. Will the engine fit? Are there any other bits I can use from my DTR on the DT? Ta! Lewis

good afternoon, thanks again for the help with the "dt 50 mx breakdown". Although after getting it going again the same thing happened but this time I cleaned the carb drained the fuel tank, checked the filters, checked the barrel for any crap and just generally gave it a thorough rountine maintenance job, now it will start but as soon as it fires up, it dies again. I managed to get it going for ten mins or so and the same thing happened, then it was back to starting and instantly dieing again. any suggestions would be a great help because after the ammount of money i keep throwing at it i am seriously considering leaving it on the train tracks, cheers, Jack. by…

Hi guys, since the winter has come round my DTR doesnt like starting one bit. At first i thought the cold weather may be the problem, but now im starting to think there is a fault with it as i have lost quite a bit of compression. You can kick the bike over as many times as u want but nothing (sometimes u may be lucky n it will start). The bike will start if i bump it and will ride normally. It will also kick over once the bike is warm. Is it a seal??? if so which one??? Any advice or feedback is much appreciated many thanks Adam

Hi, I've just signed up and would like to introduce myself... if anyone cares I've been riding bikes since the mid 70's ( started on a Puch VZ50 if anyone remembers them.. ) various BSAs, Triumphs, an amazing RD400, Moto Morini 3 1/2, Dneiper, XS750, KLR250 amongst others, and more recently BMW F650GS. And now I'm also the proud owner of an '81 DT175MX. I live in Bulgaria and love touring and riding trails which we have pretty much free access to here,(hence the DT as the BMW is just too heavy and I'm embarrassed to be overtaken by teeneagers on their dirt bikes). My Mrs and I also happen to run a bike friendly backpacker hostel in case anyone needs a bed or a garag…

hey so i've just joined this site, and i've owned my yamaha dt125r for about a month now, the pistons have just been changed so i have been told to ride it smoohthly, which i have, and today my bike is all of a sudden just not kicking over, with the fuel off sometimes it kicked over, then i put the fuel back on and choke up and it runs for about 5 seconds, but still struggling as im pulling the throttle it seems like the throttle isnt working, but its not sticking or anything. so we tried to bump start it in 1st gear but still did the same thing and jumps while i get it going, then cuts out after a few seconds, we bump started it again i got it from 1st into 2nd, but stil…

Gents. Im after diagram of the engine in my WR125r. Theres a couple of parts i want to find out about. 1st is a little black "valve" type with a airpipe from the airbox through this "valve" into my exaust (just down from the manifold) This is just a guess but does it blow Cold air into my exaust to lower emmissions? If so surely this will reduce back pressure obviously reduceing power. Also can anyone reccoment me a full pipe for my bike? Many thanks Paddy

just picked up a DT for $250... i live in the dominican republic and not to sure what i have here.... everything on this island is molested or held together with bubble gum. anyways my papers says its a 1997 dt 175. but the im pretty sure the motor is a 125, switched out at some point. the bike is a little rugged in some places, gauges don't work, head light fairing missing, taillight gone... but for the most part it runs. now the question im asking is, can any of you help me identify my bike.:-) thanks here are some pics.

Hi all. This bike is a 1992 YZ80D and it blows crank case oil out of a bypass hose when it's under load. Anyone hazard a guess as to what the fix might be before I start taking things apart? I've never had one of these apart, but will have to shortly if my daughter wants to keep riding this thing. I have an owners service manual, but it lacks a diagram that might reveal how pressure is building in the crank case under load to blow out oil. It's getting worse so I'll have to do something about it this winter to have it ready for spring. Any insight people here might have to offer would be welcome. Ian Edit - Crank case... not crack.. save me!

Hello to everybody. Probably, I should introduce myself since it is my first post here. Recently I've got second hand Yamaha DT 125R '98. Main usage is short trips (1-3 days) both road and offroad for landscape photography purposes. I drived it for a couple of months (sept., oct.) and now I have time to repair everething. The bike works, but some things should be fixed. I'm not a kid but it is my first bike. That's why I have a bunch of stupid questions. 0. Common. I have a Haynes manual for this bike. My prefered style is "learning by doing". How far should a newbie go inside the bike? Are there any parts (engine, gearbox) which are not recommended for op…

hi everyone, this is an urgent ask for help. on my way to college for a test i broke down, managed to start it and it then conked out again about a mile down. It sounded like it was running low on fuel but a have half a tank. it's now in my garage after a much needed recovery before my hands iced over and the compression, fuel, oil and spark are all fine. i thought it might by carb-icing but i have warmed it up and still nothing. would much appreciate a reply asap, thanks, Jack.

Ok, i'm hoping a fresh approach might help. The 175 is being a bit of an arse, from cold she's fine and starts and idles perfectly with choke when cold and when she wont idle with choke its cos she don't need it and she will idle for 10-15 minutes happily. Thing is when your riding, she's a bit rich in the middle but leans off at the top end. Moving the needle up ruins the low speed (sub 5000rpm) manners and putting in a bigger jet and dropping the needle she just floods out and fouls the plug. Lower the needle without the big jet and she bloody near wont run at all. Add into this if i run her a touch rich but tweak the fuel tap it helps with the mid range but sh…

Hi all, been awhile since i have posted on here! I wonder if anyone can help! I have been commuting to work 30miles a day on my xt125 and after leaving it for a long weekend it would not start on monday morning. After about 15mins is started but the electric display was just showing some error. But i managed to drive to work. When i finished it was all working fine except for one thing. Once i get in to 4th i cannot go above 45mph infact it starts to slow down to eventually 38-39 mph. Now this is dangerous for me as i have to travel on a busy dual carrige way. I havent serviced it in 1000miles although its brand (previous owner did 500miles, so was servi…
