To all who it may concern. Due to my numerous requests to Japan's Yamaha factory and to Japan's Commerce and Industry Association I've been give the same reply on my issue. That is: there were no VIN code for the engine in some particular models of motorcycles manufactured in Japan. The list of the models: YAMAHA TTR250 (years of origin: 1993-2001) YAMAHA FZR250 (years of origin: 1989-2001) YAMAHA TDR250 (tears of origin: 1988-1993) You can take this information in your consideration while checking the bike before buying it. The only identification on the engine can be found are the letters or digits like: 4GY, 1KT or other.

Hi guys, u can see my introduction in the Noob section. I've got a problem I hope some of you can help me out with. I know I'm gonna have to take it apart to find out for sure but always helps to see if anyone else has had the same problem. Basically 1st gear doesn't work. When I shift into 1st it seems to catch abit and makes some click/clunk noises but doesn't move. It works great in all 5 top gears but no go in 1st. She's got lots of power to pull my 250 lb butt from a standing stop and up and down the road faster than I want to go Any ideas that don't involve splitting the cases. I'm hopeing maybe just a spring or the shift cam problem. Any help will be appreciated.…

Hi, people. Have bought recently Yamaha TTR250 Raid for my out of city activities. I used a bike without registration one year and now I need to register it. But police tells me that without No. of engine they will not register it. I have only frame VIN and just 4GY (just four letters) for the engine. Police tells that I need to show them 9 digits at least on the engine. That is just ridiculous situation. The year of origin of my bike is 1992. Any help or explanation will be highly appreciated.

I'm looking to sell the DT fairly soon, and thought the next project could be a XT225. Must admit I don't know too much about the XT225's as yet - is there anyone on here who knows much about them, what to look for / avoid etc? cheers Lee

Hi all, Names Clive form Uk down in Somerset.Age 45 Been riding since i was 17, current bikes are Ducati 748s and XJR1200 and the DT175mx. Hopefully getting a TS250 or DT360 in a few weeks. Purchased the DT175 a few days ago but its performance is poo. Flat out in 6 you struggle to achieve 50 mph. Ive ajusted the carb and its a bit better but not what i remember the Dt175 to be like. It has a big one exaust so not sure if the jets are standard but will check. and will probably put original exaust on. Its very tidy but i will strp it and restore as i can get work done for next to nowt but i dont know that much about engines and carbs, only the basics. I…

  12. hello members, good day just bought the other week a yam dt125re, but think the sellers saw me coming a bit ! already the bike needs some attention, ie power valve, because when just ignition turned on (no starter)the powervalve makes usual noise, ie moves and cleans itself procedure, but when running the bike noticed it seemed bit down on power and torque when riding, anyway removed l/h powervalve cover (2 screws) and saw that the powervalve is not advancing when engine is revved, indeed not moving at all other than when 1 st turn ignition on. when i bought bike from a garage they would not let me test ride it without full money in their hands, but just started bike st…

need some help in setting this up please. I've read the pinned toppic at the top and haynes and the official yamaha service book but i cant find the info on what position it should sit at when i put the servo housing etc back on. You have the middle section that has the curved bit missing but im a bit lost as to how the power valve works to understand the postion it should be in. The servo is fine as its goes as per all the videos ive seen but its the poervalve that im not sure about. cheers muppet

  15. Started by bookem,

I've got an old 1978 Dt frame, at least it had a 1978 DT 175 motor in it. I'm building a street legal trike out of it, I know I'm a little strange. I have a 1978 IT 250 that I can have if I go get it. My question is will the IT motor fit in the DT frame or will there be issues? I'm sure somebody out there has worked on these different types and can answer this questio in their sleep. Thanks for the help guys. Dan "Bookem" Taylor

Anyone know the chain 'Gauge' on a 2009 xt660z tenere? Trying to buy a chain riveter and it specifies it will work on chains '420 to 530'. Is the tenere in that range and does it really matter? Cheers

  18. Hi All, Been absolutely ages since I posted anything up on here. I have to admit I have gone over to the Orange side (KTM) as I am now doing enduro events etc. BUT, I could never sell the DT, had it so long, worked on it so much, ridden and broken it so many times it just cannot be sold. And now... I have done some bits and pieces to it. Stripped it painted it, re-greased, renewed and replaced everything that needed doing. Fitted a Big One. It was cheap and nearly new. Recently got hold of some YZ 125 forks, upside downers from an early nineties bike (my DT is a 91) Fiddled about with the yokes and have them fitted perfectly. Changed up the rear suspension for an up…

Lads and ladies, I need to replace the seat cover as it has slight hole in it and me being anal about getting the bike looking nice I now need to either replace or repair the seat cover, I had a quote to replace it at £130 with something different but i think i can get original yam at £80 but it will need fitting so again total about £100 plus. Looking at either repair in midlands or alternative to yam original - and grey (Again im anal) did look at ebay but they dont do it in my colour. I am willing to look at another colour if it looks good just dont say things like purple that wont match a red bike.
