  1. Started by neversaydie,

Finally got around to checking the alignment tonight (cos its still pissing down here), I've been meaning to check it for a while but I've had the cruiser up on the platform while I serviced it. Anyhow, when Id strung up both sides of the rear wheel, though the frame, and measured how much it was out at the front, I couldn't believe my eyes. I double checked my lining up again, same result. It was as if the front and rear wheels were in different planes. The object of the lesson is, don't pay any attention to the markings on the swing arm for setting up wheel alignment, they can only be considered as a rough guide. Ill take it out tomorrow to see if it handles any differe…

  5. First post! Like the title says; just curious. Slowly putting an FZ600 together, got a spare engine from my Radian that needs a top-end rebuild (TL;DR: over-revved, my fault, lesson learned, moving on) and I was going to put that into it, but today I came across a 1985 FZ750 engine for only a little more than the cheapest price I've found for a top-end gasket set and four piston ring sets for the FZ/XJ/YX600 engine. This project is a bit-by-bit thing anyway, so the idea occurred to me that it might be fun to plug the 5-valve water-cooled 750 in there instead. I know the frames are similar; but does anyone happen to know if the engine mounts line up between the two models?…

Hi, This is possibly a silly question; should the bolts for the rear sprocket (attaching the sprocket to what in the manual is called the 'clutch hub') be tight? My problem is that in order to make the edges of the retaining plate flush against the bolt, some were left slightly loose. I have been checking them periodically and they have not moved, but will this cause an issue in the future? The manual states the torque should be 2.6kgf/m (if I can dig out a torque wrench I will test this) but if the bolts are not flush with the retaining plate but tight is this not also an issue? Any advice appreciated. (ideally I would like the sprocket bolts to stay in place and no…

Hello all. Never used a forum before so apologies if not using right! Ok, so my son has a 2006 dt 125r. Its running boggy so cleaned air filter, changed plug etc. I have looked at the various carb screws and am confused. The idle screw seems obvious enough in the centre of the left side of the carb, and what I assume is the air mixture screw is to the right of this and recessed and smaller. This was all the way in but the bike gets worse if I unscrew it the 1 1/4 turns people seem to recommend. Now heres the thing; on the right side of the carb is a threaded hole that seems to need something in it? the threads seem clean as though something has fallen out. Any ideas what …

  9. Morning everyone. The rear shock on my FJR 1300AS is leaking after just 1538 miles. My bike is 118 days out of warranty and so I asked the cost of a new one. A new shock is £5149, I was staggered. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Hi , I have got to 45,000 miles on my 09 XJ6 and in need of another set of tyres . I commute and my aim is to beat the jams to work and not get there as quick as possible so I am not hard on tyres and can get 10,000 miles out of a set , however the Michelins on at the moment have done 5,000 and although they are not worn out do not have much left and rear has a slow puncture . I have had 2 sets of Bridgestone BT021 and got 10,000 but the bike is not great on those and the front tyre wears badly on one side and was illegal before the rear on both sets . I have also had Avon Storms and again got 10k out of them and I did quite like them but felt like trying another br…

I'm needing to change the coolant on my XJ6S. Having gone through the manual (and worked out what type of anti-freeze to buy), the only point I'm not sure on is whether it's mandatory to change the 'gasket' on the coolant drain plug (I'd call it a washer personally!) The manual suggests it should be changed - but I cannot seem to find a part number anywhere for this. So 2 questions really - Do I need to change it really? (the bike is 5 years old) - What is the part number for the 'gasket'? Is it just a standard washer or is it a crush washer like on the oil drain sump plug? Thanks in advance!

  13. Hi Everyone, I have just imported my 2008 R6 from Cape Town and have already taken it for an MOT, which it passed. In order for me to have my bike registered, I would need to get a European Certificate of Conformity. My bike is stock standard with the exception of the headlights, which is xenon instead of the standard halogen (so I can see better at night). I have been struggling to get this European CoC as Yamaha in Japan has been very slow to respond. My bike is probably the same version as that of European models with the exception of the dash which shows km/h. I would really appreciate it if I can get some advice on how to get this CoC instead of having to go through …

  15. Hi, I'm new here so hope that i have posted this in right place... Quick question: I just bought my first ever bike (2002 Yamaha XJ600N) but my problem is that i very small hands and the reach to both the break and the clutch standard levers is quite big which means that after riding my hands (mainly from clutch control) are quite sore from over reaching. on the 600N there is no way to adjust the lever position (you can adjust the clutch bite point but not the position of the lever). so after searching i think the only way around my issue is to replace the levers with adjustable ones. ... I've checked EBay and there seem to be quite a few for sale but having looked i'm no…

Hi All, newbie here, I have bought a 98 Thunderace with 5000 miles on it, the bike is mint, runs and rides like a new bike, I noticed something different on the left hand crankcase whilst cleaning it, on the left hand crankcase (as you sit on the bike) there is a blind hole that mirrors one on the right hand side of the crankcase, the one on the right houses the oil pressure sensor, the one on the left oaccording to pictures in the manual is just a blind hole, however my bike has a bolt in it, like I say it runs perfect and doesn't cause me any concern, just noticed this bolt ???????????

  19. Hi, I get bad finger tingling and numbness after an hours riding on the XJ6. The engine doesn't feel "lumpy" but the buzz through the handlebar grips is at a frequency that affects my hands. Googling has shown that HVMP in the US produces some "heavy" (17oz) bar end weights which are made out of stainless steel and considerably longer than the standard XJ6 bar ends. There is quite an impressive Youtube video that shows on a particular bike how effective the weights are in damping the vibration (or moving it to a different part of the rev range). Does anyone have experience of these bar ends and can vouch positively or negatively for the benefit in reducing "buzz" thro…
