Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I bought a TZR (my third project) last year and let my son use the engine on his bike till we got his repaired. After about a week or so of using it the gearbox oil was like mayonase. His own engine was then repaired so I stripped down my engine completely cleaned all casings and gears and put it back together with new gaskets. The problem has gone away. I'm hoping its not a cracked casing? Anyone got any bright ideas.

Hi I'm looking for info on the minimum thickness of a front dics. The unworn section of disc = 4mm, the worn section is 3.6mm. As far as I can work out from the internet, the minimum thickness before replacement is required is 3.5mm. 0.5mm of allowable wear doesn't seem very much, but then I'm probably comparing it to much thicker car discs where 2mm of wear is typically permitted. Any advice gratefully received!

New battery last year and charged up this spring. Go to start the bike and all it does is click. Last year when it would do that, I would move the bike forward to backward in gear and then it would start fine. I replaced the solenoid but still have the same problem. Question, how easy is it to remove the starter to have it checked or replaced? Bike will start when push starting it but it would be nice to have it work correctly. Thanks for any imput. Jeff

  9. Good morning, folks. I need to get a source of USB power onto my new XJ6, and as I need to charge hungrier devices like smart-phones and tablets, I need to be sure I have a decent 2A charger. A lot of the bike ones I've seen look a bit cheap so I can only imagine they're crappy little 0.5A 'traditional' mobile chargers. Can anyone recommend a decent device that will present a weatherproof USB socket that I can either install or tie to the fairing? Alternatively I'll have to take something like a cigarette-lighter style charger that I know is powerful enough, and take it apart myself. Also, where should I be taking power from on the bike? I'd rather take it…

  11. I recently purchased replacement components for my DT. Included in my shopping was a Chain and Sprocket upgrade off eBay. Included was a 525 chain replacing the standard 428. The Sprockets in the kit purchased were 13/39T. I know this can be done as my bike already runs this configuration, fitted by its previous owner. I bought new items as the old components have had their fair bite of wear and tear over the years and in my opinion need replacing. I'm in a replacing/ refreshing mood, my next plan is a complete exhaust upgrade. My question is, if I was to at some point in the future put a lighter 39T Rear Sprocket on to the bike instead of a heavy Steel part. What…

Haven't posted since last year and I'm starting back with a question. So, apologies! I hope everyone is well and enjoying the biting winds, torrential rain, and occasional snowfall of .... Ahem, Spring. Friggin British weather. I digress. Got my fazer 600 back from its service. Tootling along nicely through morning traffic. Spot a gap in the fast lane of the motorway. Aye, aye, says me. Carbs were cleaned during the service. Lets open her up a little before BMW man puts down his latte and tries to compensate for his small...ego. I twist the throttle and commit to the manoeuvre. Now, either my bike is accelerating poorly or I didn't notice my bungee cord was caught o…

Hello, so today i scruved all bolts in and closed all cases, puted in kick start mehansim and waitting for kick leaver. So i pluged all hoses in and filled in oil in clutch case and cooling liquid, "Tosol" in cooling tank. And I pushed my bike manually up, it started. So i reguled carb and all things that seemed not finished, and after a minute i noticed, than "red indicator" on speedo is shining, "water temp. symbol" or something like that (pic - http://static4.depositphotos.com/1030387/400/v/950/depositphotos_4001512-Water-Temperature-Crystal-Icon.jpg ). So i stopped engine, and tested with my hand - all engine was heated up - cilinder, clutch case, flywheel ca…

Hi all, I've tried looking at the VIN link at the top of the forum but it doesn't seem to work. I have a year 2000 Yamaha YZF600R Thundercat and am trying to find out the colour code for the cherry red paint scheme as I need some paint for touch up parts and to spray a new front mudguard. Ive searched the tinternet for explanations of the model codes but am unsure if this is within the VIN number or is it somewhere else on the bikes frame and once I find it, what part of the code relates to the colour? Really hope someone understands all that and can help me with it, thanks, Andy

Hello! New owner of a 1980 SR250. Runs great but clutch lever was very hard to pull because of dirty old cable. Okay, no problem. First repair...jump right in and replace clutch cable. Removed old cable, bought new cable, hooked into clutch lever on handlebars, then threaded through bike, went to attach bottom end into the clutch lever and SNAP! One of the ends of the little spring there under the arm (to pull it back as the cable tension is relaxed) popped right out of it's groove and became unsprung. So now it appears that I have to somehow wrap it back around ~1.2 times, and get the end with the little loop on it, back into it's groove. Any tips?

Hi, I've stripped my RD350 engine down and I need to clean up the outside of the crankcase halves so I can paint them and make them look nice before re-assembly. I will need them blasted to get rid of the old paint and aluminium "crust". Has anyone got any suggestions what is the best way to get these cleaned up? I've read that bead blasting can leave glass beads behind that can cause trouble later on. I can get my hands on some soda blasting kit, would that do the trick? Also, how should I clean up the the seats where the bearings fit? Can I use something like Autosol to clean them up? Many thanks, Rick. http://rd350nrebuild.wordpress.com/
