Last week I bought a 1982 Yamaha XJ650 with 11,000 miles on it. No mods in good condition. Starts well, tick over fine but from 1,300 rpm to 3,000 rpm it hesitates, feels rough with very uneven power delivery. But from 3,000 rpm or so it is perfect, pulling cleanly and smoothly. Any ideas where I should start? As an older rider I like to spend a good part of my trips pottering along at up to 3,000 rpm, I'd like to do it smoother than now. Any suggestions welcome. I also posted this in the vintage section earlier.

Hi everyone, I bought a YBR as a non runner, I had to do a top end rebuild on it, everything seemed fine and went well. It does start but only with easy start ? When it does start the revs seem to sit quite high ? Any ideas what it may be ? I have adjusted the valves as well so it isnt that. Any thoughts would be great to hear. Thanks Kim

Evening So as I'm battling with the DVLA and my bike is just sat in my garden, I'm using the time to make sure it's in good shape and do any modifications I want to do. I noticed that the left rear indicator was out when I got it, and I assumed it was just the bulb. In the last few days, the front one has stopped working too, and the dash light just stays solid. The right indicators are fine and flash at the correct speed. So I assumed that this was just bad luck and that the front bulb had gone too. The factory that my dad works at makes parts for vehicles (including Yamaha bikes!) so he said he'd try and acquire the bulbs from work for me. He tested them and the…

Hi All How hard is it to replace the side engine cases on a YBR250. There are two nearly new ones on ebay at the moment http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YBR250-Yamaha-righthand-crank-case-cover-/151219391109?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item233560ca85 mine are pretty crap and for a few quid (hopefully) and new gaskets I could get my YBR engine looking like the paint hasn't fallen off. Is it simply taking care, noting were all the bolts go and refitting everything, or is in much more involved and I need special tools. Any help appreciated. Cheers YBR250guy

As some of you guys know, I have got a '79/80 Yamaha DT175MX. I read somewhere here on YOC on a DT question that when neutral is enabled both the neutral and oil should light up, but I'm not sure if that also applies to the 70's and 80's ones? I'm asking cause my oil light does not light up when in neutral and neither when the oil seems look in the oil reservoir. and oh btw, my DT has difficulties sometimes when trying to engage either neutral or first gear, what could be the problem? Thanks in advance p.s sorry for the vague title

Hello, I am gathering parts to restore a TZR125 2RK. I currently have 90 % of the parts needed (the previous owner has started to build the bike). Not sure whether its just because the tyres could do with more air in them, but it seems to sit quite low at the rear. I like my bikes to be a bit higher at the rear; Ideally I'd like it sit 2 or 3 inches higher. Has anyone changed the rear shock on this model to raise the tail. Is there a shock from another model that goes straight in ? I've a spare swinging arm and a contact at a local engineering company who could probably weld in another mount to make the rear sit higher but I didn't want to resort to such drastic m…

Guys my Aerox was standing in my garage for quite some time and last year I started driving it again. Anyway, yesterday I bought a 70cc kit for it (cylinder gaskets etc.. without the head) after I replaced everything I tightened up the cylinder head, I couldn't kick the kick start it was stiff as a rock after I loosened up the head it was "kickable" but the bike started ran about 1 or 2 mins and I bolted on the exhaust. Then I attempted to start it but it just couldn't start. I removed the exhaust again kicked it 2 or 3 times and it started spitting gasoline from the exhaust ideas ? Thanks !

Finally my bike has had its first service. I can now ride normally without using a third of the throttle. Was a bit shocked at the cost but I went to a Yamaha dealer so I could get the warranty book stamped. With it being a brand new machine I'm not going to take any risks or cut corners. The bike is good now for at least another three thousand miles. Im really pleased with the engine. It has a lot of kick even on high revs it still continues to pull with ease.

Hi everyone, Trying to get the electric start working on Grouchs XT and was wondering if there are any electrical interlocks which may stop it working, ive noticed the front brake switch doesnt work so maybe this could be a factor, on pressing the start button there is no noise at all, no relay clicking, no starter motor noises or anything. anyone else found this problem and maybe a solution? have yet to break out the voltmeter as of yet

I have a problem with a Thunderace swinging arm fitted to a FJ, basically I need to know the distance between the ends of the swinging arm of a standard Thunderace, either the inside measurement or outer of the solid blocks at the end of the swinging arm. Thanks in advance.

Hi all, nice to be here just wish it was under better circumstances. I have a '91 FZR1000 Exup which has been off the road for a few months due to a respray other bits and pieces(non mechanical), I still started her up every few weeks and had no problems. That is until today when I finally was able to take her for a spin although it was only gonna be down to a local garage for some new tyres and brake pads. Started up fine but there was no pressure in clutch lever, so got out my bleeding kit and began! Followed usual bleed procedure but still no pressure in lever and have just given up after 2hrs and hence this post. Any ideas as I am well and truly stumped on this. Str…
