She has new rings/plug/fuel filter/oil/carb clean..you name it. Went for a start after quite a long restore period and not getting any joy. Getting spark but can`t be sure about compression as I don`t have a test kit. Also wondering about the carb..maybe must come off again for another clean. Tomorrow will try some fuel in the cylinder to see if she wakes up.

Hi group, I am a huge XS1100 fan, and have owned, maintained and restored several 1979 XS1100s. I like the 79 model because of its reliability, styling (decals) and kick starter (for praticality rather than machismo). My current XS11 is a 1979/80 hybrid. Two years ago I bought a running 1980 bike primarily for the engine, seat and tank, and had it fully serviced, including carb overhaul and cam chain replacement before I totally dismantled it, and have spent two years building up a fully restored machine pulling together the best parts of several bikes. The roblem is that since I finished the rebuild, the engine runs out of steam at about 110kms. The strange thing i…

Hi im wondering if anyone could give me any advice at all on how to change a swinging arm on a ybr 125 im going to attempt the change myself with a friend and was wondering is it as difficult as it looks!. The new swinging arm has the bearings in already which should save some time and hassle! im guessing the bar holding the swinging arm in place may be a bit of a bi*ch to get out to take the old one off?. Also if anyone has a pdf for an 07 ybr 125 which i could download to help along the way would be a big help!. Any and all information would be of great help in my quest to save much money and learn more about repairing my own vehicle. Thanks Jer.

Bike missing around 3-4000rpm and was advised its running bit lean. So was advised further to adjust throttle needle 1 notch up to 2nd from top (its on 3rd middle notch right now). Thought I could just adjust airscrew for richer mix. Would like some opinions on this.

Hi there I am brand new to the forums and have been riding my YBR 125 for just over a year now, I joined the forums to see if anyone can help with my question. I have been having problems with my clutch I have adjusted fully and also bought a new clutch cable but still happening. When I come to a junction and put the clutch in, my bike still rolls forward like it isn't properly in fully until the point I jump forward and my bike cuts out. I try and put it into neutral but the gearing is jammed until I am moving properly then I can change fine. The only way I have found is to get to a junction or traffic lights switch my bike off change to neutral then turn back on, ca…

Whilst braking over a small pot hole I felt and heard a significant knock. I've loosened the locking bolt and tightened the main nut with a c spanner. Steering moves freely (tightened till it was stiff, then loosened off) on the stand and under normal riding but when braking to a stop the steering feels stiff. However, I am still getting a knock if I brake over a small hole/ dropped curb so fairly certain it's not too tight. Could this be because I have a new tyre with 'straight' tread holding the wheel straight or should I be looking at something else?

  10. was doing a bit of chain maintenance last night, took my front sprocket cover off to clear out all the gunk! noticed that there was wear on the top of my links, as if they had been rubbing against something enough to be worn down? Anyone got any ideas? chain is at correct tention and was adjusted propely to spec at the weekend. I couldnt see/think of anything that it might have been rubbing against. Trying to put a photo on but its taking ages to email to my comp - hopefully get it up at lunch Thanks, Matt

Hi all, first post so go easy. Passed my CBT and then went out and bought myself a 2002 DT125r, Electric start only covered 2000km. As you can imagine as i had just passed my CBT i was on it every day for about 3 weeks, it worked flawlessly. I noted that the front head light had stopped working, so got myself another lamp and changed it. turned the key and it didn't work, so tried starting it, Nothing. The Engine will turn over on the button, with good compression. Have tried cleaning the spark plug(iridium) and tried a new standard plug, with no effect. Fresh fuel, without the air filter, new coil, still to no avail. The wiring seems fine all plugs are clean and…

Hello all, Some of you helped me figure out the few months ago, and the switch over went beautifully. I've now got the bike to start and even go around the block a few times, but I just can't get it tuned right. This bike sat for a long time, and when I got it, I got it started and running but the carb had serious issues. I pulled it apart and cleaned it multiple times but no matter what the slide would stick open. It got so frustrating that I went on ebay and purchased this cheap little carb for $27. I'm wondering if this cheap carb is the source of my problems. It will start after a few kicks with the choke on, and idles. After it warms up a bit, I can cl…

Ok fellas if you would be so kind. just got the monster up and running nothing to serious happening other than the odd rattle and stuff that will settle down once it's all bedded in, but something is annoying me tho and want to ask if it is a problem or can I ignore it? What it is , there is a puffing type chuffing noise from the left hand exhaust, it's not there all the time but more often than not. I checked all the valve clearances when I rebuilt it but it's possible I might have misread one, the plugs are ok and have a whopping great spark and the battery is ok, fuel is new and I have rebuilt the carbs so don't think it's them but just stumped as to what it could…

Hi guys So I slowly started getting some courage and taking things apart on my bike. On of the things that doesn't work is the speedometer. I have taken it off the bike but when trying to see inside there is no way to get at it unless i brake the bracing ring, it seems Is there a proper way to do this. Here is a photo of my screwdriver trying to unbend the ring without much luck https://www.dropbox.com/s/n3laiuozfsgrdk6/cb140719-173149-3.jpg Thank you

Hi guys, I've got an 07 YZ125 which is I use for occasional motocross, nothing serious just fun on practice days.. But I want to start doing a bit of green laning. I'm in the process or road registering the YZ, but, I know that that the YZ motor isn't really suitable for green laning. So, I just wondered, how easy or hard would it be to stick a DT125 engine in, just for green laning, (Idea being that I could put the YZ motor back for when I want to use it for MX). Now I know that at this point people will just be saying, why not just buy a DT ? Well, firstly, I already own the YZ, secondly, the YZ chassis is of course a lot better than a DT…

Hey folks, I am doing up a 1979 AG 100, which at the moment is in pieces. The frame will be stripped back, painted then the rest of the bike built back again. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the wires that come out of the engine are for. There are five or six wires that are color coded, i imagine one is for the 'neutral' light, one is power from the magneto etc? I was hoping i could isolate the wires that are critical to the engine running for troubleshooting purposes, as the wiring harness is in poor condition and i will probably be rewiring the bike myself. Thanks for any assistance or tips. I might be asking more questions once i try and get the…

I bought a mark1 lc about 18 months ago, it was in pretty bad shape cosmetically seemed to run ok albiet topend was poor and start first time on the kick. When I open her up it loses power to the point of being in top gear and dropping it to 3rd just to get it moving again. Thought it could be a exhaust problem as it was welded leaking and all the rest of it so went and bought a new big one exhaust, changed air filter box for k&n style filter and I'm still having problems from 3rd gear up with power loss anybody help

I have brake problems on my XJ 650, the front brakes are tight and get tighter as they heat up when I ride. I have rebuilt the master cylinder, changed the fluids, bleed the lines, and the system works fine at first. With a few pumps of the hand lever the brakes tighten up and do not retract until I loosen the line from the master cylinder to relive the pressure. Rumor has it there is a small back bleed in the master cylinder to relive the pressure from heating in the wheel cylinder. Is this true? How small is it? I have probed around with a single bristle of a metal brush and have not found the opening and do not see it on the inside bore of the MC. What do you thin…
