hi i got my xt 550 running great then taped all my loose wires up and now it wont start again. how do i check the wires from the gen ? or could it be the cdi is there any way of checking ? thanks Dave

Hi folks Ive recently aquired an XJ750 Seca 1982 vintage which has been stood for 8 years so the carbs were well and truly full of varnish. So they have been completely stripped, cleaned and rebuilt with the appropriate Dynojet kit and K & N filter for good measure. My problem is now that it will start without choke, will not idle happily below 1500 rpm and the revs will start to rise and race for no reason. Altering the mixture and balence screws makes no difference nor does putting the standard jets and needles back in. If anything it runs slightly smoother with the Dynojet bits. My 82 yamaha xs400rj starts and idles perfectly. It runs and pulls up to 5000 rpm perfectly. http://home.comcast.net/~panofish/WEBLOG/2...Seca/index.html If I push it beyond 6000 rpm ... the engine hesitates randomly (as if it is misfiring or fuel trouble). What I have done so far... I checked the petcock. Replaced the spark plugs. The right spark cap is 8.5k and the left cap is 11.8k. The coils measured identically and withing specs. Spark plug wires are good. Hi everybody, I just got a fz600, when got it it was not ideling at all, so i cleaned the carbs, Then today i put it back together and if i open the choke all the way the bike go to 5000 -6000 rpm ! If i ajuste the choke to 1000rpm it doing ok then slowly going down and dying If i give gas its go up too 5000 rmp and stay there and i have to kill the engine. can anybody help me please ? thx Ben

I purchased the Acumen DG8 Universal Gear Indicator for my 1999 Royal Star Venture and found the wiring easy except for the tacho pulso wire (this bike does not have a tachometer). I was searching around the pick-up coil and ECU for the wire that would give the pulses that would be necessary to operate the Indicator but never found it. However, I did really cause myself a lot of problems while down there. First, I popped one of the 30A fuses, then I noticed that the headlight fuse was blown (red wire with yellow trace). No matter what I do, I can not keep that 15A headlight fuse from blowing. I have searched everywhere for the short that is causing the problem. Does…

Ive just turned 16, i dont know alot about bikes. I picked up a yamaha DT 50 MX to ride until im 17. The owner before me reconned they did a complete rebuild of the bike. Its all running fine apart from when trying to start it up for the first time. It wont kickstart at all. The only thing i can do to get it running is by push starting it everytime I want to get it running. which is a pain in the ass when your out with your mates. any ideas on what might be the problem. I think its a 90' but i could be wrong. thanks in advance.

Hey all Im a newbie so cut me a little slack ... iv just rebuilt the top end on my 96 dtr it ran a little boggy when i first started it and the overflow pipe at the bottom of the carb was pissing out petty. so i took the carb to bits and gave it a dam good clean all looked ok so i refitted the carb and ran it again ...... the leak stopped but after a few minutes of riding it started to bog down when i went under 3 thousand revs and this gradually got worse.... it just about got me home after a few stop starts. My mate told me that i forgot to block the 2 stroke pipe.... because i took the oil pump off and i am pre mixing...now it is running really crisp at the slight…

hi i have just got an xt 550 as a non starter. anyway got the bike going without too much trouble but it will not tick over without the tickover being set to say 1200 rpm if i try to slow it down it just dies,then when i ride the bike it pulls really well up to about 4500 rpm then just dosent want to know. i have cleaned the cartb out it has a new float,spark plug is ok. any ideas thanks Dave took the carb of today just to check put it back on andd now the bike will not start petrol is getting through and i have a spark ?

hi i have a dt 125 that starts straight away then stalls straight away(will not rev) the headgasket had blown i thought it was that but no,its had new air filter,new plug cleaned out carb and it still will not start properly once its going after about 6 or seven kicks and warms up rides fine and starts fine. cheers Dave

Hi Everyone, I just purchased a 1986 Yamaha Maxim X750 today, Woohoo! I am very excited! I am a newb and green as can be when it comes to motorcycles, I have my M1 and I am going to take the motorcycle safety course next month. Here's my dillema, I know absolutely nothing about this motorcycle, and I find myself with no owner's manual, DOH! G'day all, I'm a newb at this site and I'm seeking some info on final drives (pumpkins) I 'm looking for some advice and info on Yamaha final drives. What I'm thinking of doing is to change the FD ratio in my '98 XV1100 Virago , which is currently 32/11. I understand that Yamaha made a few different ratios for their large bikes. Does anyone know if the FDs are interchangeable between different models. Some FD casings do and don't have shock mounting lugs. Do V-MAX casings interchange with late model Viragos? Also can different pinion and ring gears sets be swapped between different model Yamaha casings, or are they model specific? If so I might just be able t…

Hi All, Hopefully someone can help me, I've just purchased a Yamaha SR125. The engines keep cutting out, even when the engine is warm. It also doesn't like starting with the starter motor either, and the batteries charge doesn't last long, so I'm having to bump start it all the time. Any one got any ideas, I'm not very mechanically minded, but do have a haynes for it. But this only help if I know what the problem is. Thanks to anyone and everyone. Wayne

Hi I have a tzr 125 no mater what you do to the tick over or air mixture it will not rev properly sometimes it pops sometimes dies and when it does rev the revs don’t drop properly and it sits at about 3-500 and drops very slowly and then will sometimes die but the strange thing is when its on choke it runs absolutely fine there is no air leeks as iv spent almost a week checking Any ideas? Hello,i'm new to the forum so hello to all.I've got a project bike,81 maxxim 550.When i got the bike the carbs where totally gummed up.Other than that it seemed to be in pretty good shape.The previous owner said the bike ran great but he let it sit for a year and it would not start.He is my friend and i believe him about it running great.I have cleaned the carbs 7 times and think they have got to be clean by now.I even let them soak in parts cleaner for a day this last time.I used small copper wire to clean all jets and passege way that i can get to.I also have used compressed air and carb cleaner each time.I hear air come through all passege ways so i think i got them al…

hi all im a newbie which is seeking some help. ive just bought a tzr125 and i dont think the pipes on the carb are set up right. i start the bike and petrol leaks from a couple of the pipes on the carb , im not sure if ther is something missing or where the pipes are meant to be connected . would any of you by any chance have a diagram or pictures of how the pipes should go and what the pipes should be connected. its the tzr with the manual powervalve if that makes any difference and the carb is a mikuni. thanks for any ones help, it is much appreciated
