Hi Guys I have found a few remedies for derusting tank on my FJ1200 -1TX, but if worst case means "new" tankcan anyone confirm that tanks across range are interchangeable? Found one from a 3CV which is 88/89 and my 1TX is 86/87. many thanks

hi there, can anyone help me. ive got a 1988 fz600 what had a siezed engine, i was told buy a shop that a xj600 engine fitted so i bought a 1992 xj motor. to my dismay i found out it only had a single pick up after i fitted it. does anyone know how i can get round this, i was told that it could be wired up but when ive looked is a plug which is on the fz600 motor which went to the igniter but theres not one on the xj motor. could it be wired up tomy old harness or would i have to change to a xj harness, hope someone can help me

I just bought a DT175 in Botswana. The bike comes from Yamaha South Africa. The headlamp dims so much when I apply the brakes, regaurdless of speed/rpm, that I can hardly see where I'm going. If I use my indicators, it does the same thing and when I use both, the light almost goes out. I managed to measure, with no other lights on, a 50 mV voltage loss on the negative side of the bulb and 450mV on the positive, making me suspect that the earth is good and they should have simply used heavier guage wiring from the factory. I would like to change the 165mm x 100mm headlamp with a standard, e-code headlamp housing anyway, which would require a different bulb base like the…

The bike is a brand new DT175 from Yamaha South Africa. I desperately need to change my headlamp housing and the one of choice uses an H4 bulb. I am battling to find a 6V H4 35/35 headlamp globe in my area. I have just seen them on http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffybulbs.htm , so I know they exist now. However, I have measured the AC output of my magneto and I'm getting around 6VAC on the leg feeding the 6V headlight and 12VAC (13.5VAC max) on the leg feeding the 6VDC rectifier/regulator. Could I simpy run a 12V bulb on the 12VAC leg, in parallel with the rectifier/regulator, eliminating the need for the 6VAC output? Even a 60-watt 12V bulb would draw less than my 6V…

Hi all, just picked up a 2002 DT175 which has only done less than 4000 kms, and well looked after. However have found three things, and would be grateful for some help/advice since the owners manual doesn't seem to cover it. 1) Cannot engage neutral when engine is running, but can when engine is off. Also stalls when changing from neutral to first if I don't give it a gentle rev. Otherwise fine (ie can go up and down all the gears fine whilst travelling). 2) Sometimes stalls when idling even when engine is hot (ie not cold). Hi peoples. I'm new to this site and would like to ask a question. I have an XJ400Z, 1983. When I'm starting her up for the first time, I find that after a couple of minutes, the tacko starts to flutter and then the engine starts to cough and splutter, but then will level itself out and will run fine. On some runs ( not all ) I can be cruising along and she'll start to cough and splutter and even flame out on me ( which I then pull the clutch in and gear down and release clutch to restart). Hello Wise ones, I have a 2002 fazer 600 , recently noticed that at low speed a very noticeable mechanical knocking which disappears if i dis-engage the clutch. The bike has done 19K. the knocking is very audible. Could this be a typical system of a worn clutch. The clutch does seem very snatchy and the lever range of engagement is very small i.e. within the first 20mm of pull. Have adjusted the cable & will test again soon. Thanks for any advice

Hi Ok bought this bike about 4 months ago and I think I bought a rough one. I thought when I bought it the problem was just down to poorly setup carbs. The bike wont pull off at low revs and I am getting a lot of oil in the airbox although that might be my fault for putting in 5w40 oil ? Now the bike wont start and im pulling my hair out does anyone know what might cause an R6 to not pull off without reving the bike to death and cause oil to go into the airbox and then for the bike to stop starting. Hi Anyone my bike is a '89 xv250w "route 66" I was hoping someone could point out things or components to check to solve my problem. the problem is basicly that i cant start the bike. this is what happens when i try to start: i turn on the ignition, and the lights come on. then I press the starter button, and the lights dimm, and fairly quickly fade. i cant even hear the starter moving at all. i have tried jumper cables, and with the cables connected for a little while, the engine starts. however if i ride for a bit and stop the engine, it wont start again 'by itself' the battery is 3 days old, and was charged overnight before i put it on the bi…

hi ive just bought a 2001 r6 with 1800 miles on the clock. when i boiught it , it was fine but after taking it for an mot it came back with white smoke coming from the exhaust. has anyone else had this problem? i rang the previous owner and he said the engine needs setting up with it being stood for so long. any help would be good

I have an 81 XS400. I played with the carb over the weekend (adjusted the idle seed, cleaned and rough sync) now after the engine is hot it stays at high idle after I decelerate. It did not do this before I worked on it but overall it runs much better now. Please help

hya people i wonder if there is anyone who can pinpoint my problem the problem is always there but is really noticeable at night.. while riding my electrics surge all my lights including dash headlight become really bright for a few seconds then return to normal and sometimes they dim below normal level too it fluctuates all the time would i be right in thinking it could be the voltage regulator or is there any other possibilitys ??? because i dont really want to go on an expensive fault finding saga i hope there is a member who is better on electrical than me any help would be really appreciated ps i get the feeling people laugh at my xj because its often termed as a…

Can anyone help me? I have a 98 R1 which was imported from Germany when new. I've just taken it for it's first MOT ('cos it's been in storage for 8 years) and it's failed because the headlamp beam dips to the right. I need to know how to tape up the headlamps to give a flat beam, the same as you would do if you were going on a trip abroad. There must be a diagram or template somewhere?!?! Can the headlamps be converted for left hand traffic or do I have to buy a new headlamp? Any diagrams or info you have would be greatly appreciated.

HELP! I've got a problem with the lighting circuit on my 1998 wr400. Has any one got any info of where to find a wiring diagram? All i've got that works is the horn, kill button & the brake light. The brake light only works if the light switch is not switched on, as soon as you put the light switch to the on position the brake light stops working. The indicators dont work at all, if they do occasionally they all light up at the same time. I brought the bike like this so dont know if any thing has been wired incorrectly or something is faulty along the line. Any help greatfully appriciated.

Hi all, as yamaha have used these awsome brakes on so many different bikes someone must be able to help! (i hope) How difficult is it to service the calipers, do you need a special service tool to remove the outer piston plugs(the gold spot bit) or can all the seals be changed with just the piston pushed back into the caliper?? If it makes a difference they are calipers of a 2003 R1 Any help would be great, Thanks Sam

i have an fz 750cc & after fitting a new set of plugs approx 6 weeks later my No 2 & 3 cylinder plugs oil up resulting in 1 or both cylinders miss firing,even though i may be on a journey at the time i have still encountered a plug oiling up & not sparking.upon cleaning said plug, the cylinder will spark,as it should .this can happen suddenly.all sparkplugs are indicate a perfect mixture generally,but this is a reacurring problem with thisz bike.has anyone out ther had a similar problem, please help
