At the weekend, I fitted a 'cheap' aftermarket alarm to my 98 Thundercat, as soon as I put power to the Alarm the problems started. It would arm itself then go off and when it went off it would blow the 30amp Main fuse on the Starter Relay. After checking the wiring diagram and 3 more fuses, i realised it was time to remove it and give up. However now I have a neutral light which stays on. I went out this morning and got a new Neutral switch and changed it, but this made no difference. Can anyone out there give me any pointers?? Cheers

I want to get my wheels re-spoked on my Dragstar 1100 custom. Having removed the rear wheel I can't work out how to remove the rear drive assembly from the wheel. The side and bottom nuts are for the oil fill and drain and there is a chrome domed cap on the top that seems fixed solid. Has anyone done this in the past because I'm baffled. Cheers for any help.

Hi there, I was looking for some technical advice on converting my 1988 FZR 750RR from running on an 18" rear wheel to run on a 17" wheel. I have been given a Fazer 600 (17" by 5.5") rear wheel minus the sprocket carrier and disc brake. I would need to modify the rear swing arm to take the rear spindle which isnt to hard to do, but is there an easier way to achieve this goal or is the Fazer 6 wheel a good option. I would also need to know if the FZR rear brake hanger and caliper could be used and also which spacers to use or would these need to be made? The tyre tat is fitted is a 180/55r17 and ive tryed to line up as best i can with what i have and there looks to …

Hi, I've got a xj600s divvy and I've got probs with it starting. I went out yesterday about 1pm and it started first time. Went to petrol station, put some fuel in the mule then went to grans. Stayed there for about 20 mins then went to shops. Was there a few mins then went to another shop for a few mins to get some b/day cards then stopped off on the way home to get some stamps. When I come to start it up at the last shop it wouldn't go. It turned over a few times then died on me. Had to push the bugger home which quite fortunately I was only 1/4 mile away thank god! Anyway cut a long story short - I took out the plugs and checked them, I'm a new rider and I know mor…

Talking to a tech guy today at local bike dealer, and he recommends using 140w gear oil for greasing the swing arm as opposed to normal grease. The thinking behind this is that normal grease hardens with age and stops doing its job. What do you guy's and Gals think about using 140w gear oil?

Hello, can anyone help? I have just got an old XJ600 off ebay. Apart from the fact that the battery does not seem to hold a charge I wonder if the gear box is Duff ?? Help. I learned to ride about 6 years ago and have not ridden since. well not much. On the bikes I learned on the gear change was something like 1 down 3 up. And I could change at any time , ie standing at traffic lights. However This YAMAHA only seems to want to change gear on the move ... I have to de-clutch between every gear or the LEAVER does nothing. Is this normal for a YAMAHA ?? It seems like double de clutching ... is the BOX duff or is it me. I'm a professional driver if it has four wheels…

The 1983 XV750 front brake is of the pivoting caliper type and it is not a very good design. At least on my bike this brake is very inefficient (dangerous quite frankly). The pads are in reasonbly good condition and the disc is a little worn but not too badly. Does any one know if there is a simple fix or possibly a replacement brake (and fork) from some other bike that will fit without too much rework? Grateful for any useful info!

Would you say it's worth fitting a steering damper to the new R6? This bike won't see a track day. Thanks

I've had the bike for 8 years and it has always suffered from poor charging, was told the rectifier was shot each time so replaced it, each time, turns out it was the stator that was knackered. I replaced the stator and all was fine untill the rectifier did go and fried the battery. I replaced the rectifier, and the battery worked OK untill the weather got colder. Then the starter wouldn't turn when the battery was slightly discharged on cold damp days so I replaced the battery with a Varta one last Thursday. This morning bike wouldn't start, starter tried to turn but wouldn't, jump started it off wifes car. Once the bike is running the lights are bright and indicators fl…

Hi, My daughters 2004 TZR50 was running fine then she said made a strange noise then stopped, maybe pinking by her description. Since then we can not start it. It turns over fine, I have checked the piston and rings and all are in good condition as is the compression. Cleaned the carb. There is fuel getting to the plug and I have fitted a new plug. The only thing I can think of is that the spark when checking it is a little irregular, jumping around the electrode not in a constant place? I am now at a lose to know what to do? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi My speedo and mileometer are not working. Have checked the cable and the 2 cog wheels at the speedo end. How do I check the speedo at the wheel end? Is there anything else I can check? Odd fact - When I wheel my bike forward the cable doesn't rotate but when I wheel my bike backward the cable does rotate. (cable disconnected at speedo end and connected at wheel end). Cheers for any info Jules

Unfortunately I recently took a little tumble on my bike and was wondering apart from my main dealer, did anyone know good websites/company phone numbers to check out for parts. Not a lot is damaged its mainly cosmetic to the fairing (thank god) but I just wanted to get an idea of prices. If you could help that would be brilliant. Thanks, B

Hi guys have been having probs and came across this forum. Thought I would try my luck!! First off I have a 1998 Thundercat (First bike) Basically I can't get it to start, it seems to turn over when I press the ignition but nothing is catching. I have checked the battery (fine) and changed the spark plugs (the other ones were filthy). Also put some new petrol in and some cleaner additive. It has been stored for a few months. I have heard about draining the float bowls on the carbs. But to be honest I can't work out where the screw is!! Any help would be much appreciated Thanks, Mark.
