Hi everyone, Am new to the Yamaha Owners fold!! Just bought a 1991/2 XJ600 (3KM) (Pre Divvy) as a non runner (seemed like a good idea at the time!!) Somebody has hacked the wiring tothe CDI box & tried to fit a box off a different XJ (550 I think - it has a "4U8" code on it). The issue I have is that I don't have the orignal connectors on my harness. I can get the correct CDI box for my bike from a breakers fairly easily but I need to know which colour wire goes to which pin on the CDI box. So....if any helpful soul could take the RH sidepanel off thier bike & either take a photo of the CDI box or make a note / scribble a sketch of which wire goes w…

Got a small amount of "mayonnaise" on my oil filler cap. Seem to be using more petrol than I should also, with the odd wiff of petrol when the engine is not running. Has anyone got any ideas. Only done 12800 miles, is it terminal?? Thanks

Old saying dont fix if not f***** messing around improving the wires on the points, now since the repairs and fitting back in cannot get the bike to run proply and keeps missfiring. somtimes fires on both, hey presto the bike runs sweet on both pots. Then just as quick it will go back down to one pot... Is it bad earth? Knackered points? They look ok. ive never really had anything to do with points, last time was a mini 20 year ago and that was agg. Been told to convert to electronic. Has anyone got electronic 4 sale. Or new set of points cure my headache...

i have a technical query...i just bought a 2001 r6...i drove it home about a 20 minute drive...let it sit for 10 minutes...drove again for about 20 minutes...i stalled the bike at a stop sign and it restarted without a problem...at the next stop sign i stalled it again...this time it would not start...not only that but with the key in the on position nothing happened...no lights cam on...the fuel pump didnt tick...nothing...i checked the battery and it was pushing 12.65 volts...check all the fuses and they all look good...any idea what this could be or what i should look for?

Hi all my 89 xt 350 loom is a mess so i am going to have a go at repairing ,in my clymer manual it shows a pic of two electrcal boxes they call them control boxes,problem is mine only has one?,what do the control boxes do,i am pulling out what little hair i have out,can anybody please help me on this ?. Hello, Does anyone know anywhere which sells complete gasket sets for the 4DL with the 4FU00 barrel? I got a gasket set from a DT125R as its supposed to share the same engine however the generator gasket has a small gap at the bottom. Any help is appreciated.

Hi I have an XVS125 which im having trouble with. It starts and runs fine for a couple of minutes and throttles ok. Then starts idling up & down and if i so much as touch the throttle it starts to stall. Eventually it cuts out and wont start, then the battery will go flat and i have to recharge it. After this it will work for a couple of minutes and do the same. I have cleaned the carb and changed the plugs but this makes no difference. It has a new battery but it was only a cheap one off the internet. Im thinking it is an electrical problem as i have undone the drain plug straight after it cut out and there was fuel. Im not so good with electrics but i …

I've just bought an FJR1300 which I collect next week and want to fit my TomTom onto the bike - any suggestions as to the best place to put it and how?

I have an sr125 which has been sat in the garage for a while, had trouble starting it at first but then cleaned carburettor and spark plug and then fine. then tried putting it in gear to ride off and it just dies - doesnt jump like when you kick it into gear with no clutch, just quietly cuts out. yesterday i played around with it for ages and finally got it to start in first with the clutch on, after which there was no problem, i started it in neutral again and had no problems changing BUT today i gave it another go and it kept cutting out again and wont start in first with clutch either. please help, i've tried to work this out and dont seem to be getting anywhere...

hi there, i recently serviced my sr125, tightend cam chain, set valve clearences changed oil plugs and filters, since then i dont seem to have as much power as before, stil does same speed but takes alot longer to get there, i can notice it more in 5th than anyother gear has anyone got any ideas on what i might have done wrong. thanks

Hello all! I'm new to bikes, so I apologise in advance of any obvious questions! I've been riding my Virago 535 now for a while, and now she's starting to want some love. 1st are the forks - without going into a huge story the front forks are both leaking and I know there is a score on the inside of the left one. So I'm thinking that it would be cheaper and easier to replace both forks if they both have scores on them. Are they forks that I could find on a different single front caliper bike? Does anybody have a pair to sell? If I cant find some soon, how much would it cost to have the inside bore re-engineered? 2nd is the carb (maybe?) - When I know ther…

Hi, all - first post! I'm hoping that someone can help with this, as its a case of fix or scrap I've been left a Yamaha WHY 50 (YH50? Something like that anyways...) by my uncle when he died, and after riding it a few times, it seems to be woefully lacking in any power when pulling away from a dead stop. I almost got hit by a bus yesterday because it just plain stopped while pulling (up a 1/6-ish gradient) onto a roundabout... The engine doesn't actually cut out or anything - it sits happily revving away, but you seem to have to help the scooter get over its own inetia Fred-Flintstone-style before the engine will take over. hi i have a yz426 and have lost drive in 5th gear, i am trying to remove the engine but cant get the swingarm bolt out, can i do the gears without removing the engine, and if not how could i get the bolt out? thanks

I have a yahmaha yzf-r1 that keeps overheating, the cooling fan doesn't come in till the temperature hits 109oC I have changed the thermostat so it can't be that and I'm lost I just don't want to spend a fortune on all new parts that are pointless if they don'e solve the problem Can anyone help???

hi can any one help the bike is a 73 tx 500 the bike kicks up no problem but the starter turns the engine over when there are no plugs in no probs but put the plugs back and it slows when it hits compression and wont start the bike i have a other starter but it is the same is it a coincident or both starters duff has any one any ideas they whuld be mutch appreciated
