Well, I figured that his would be the place to get info on Yamaha's, so, here goes. I have a 1989 FZR400RR, which, for some reason, doesn't start. When you hit the starter, you can hear it trying to tick over, but it doesn't. I took it to a garage and they said there was nothing wrong with the battery (which I knew anyway as it would charge and hold charge) and nothing wrong with the charging circuits. They said that it was running rich and the reason it wasn't starting was due to the engine flooding when the choke was opened. I started it up without the choke and it was fine for a little while, and recently its stopped starting and I've had to bump it. It was starting…

I'm having a problem with the coil on my 650. It has a Lucas rita ignition box, single magnetic pickup and a single dual fire coil. The coil i originally chose is one off a VF1000r, dual fire with replaceable leads but the main reason was the plug leads exited on the side of the coil not bottom. The coils ain't lasting plus their getting harder to find, so i used an automotive coil from a V6 buick. It uses 3 coils all dual fire plus their a dime a dozen. The coil lasted about 10 minutes before packing it in. I assume the new coil is a low ohm and the lucas system, being old tec is high ohm. My question is can i resistor or something the coil outputs on t…

Trying to debug a starting problem. Not getting any response at all. Following the Clymer's manual I bypassed the starting circuit cut-off relay and supposedly got the correct behavior from the starter solenoid. It says to check the relay, it's "behind' the solenoid. Nowhere in any of my manuals do I see a picture of one...is it a little metal cubic 1" box?? Starter is fine, battery okay, solenoid okay, neutral light is on, and the starter button fires....I get nothing, occasionally a 'click' You can hear the solenoid click and sometimes you can hear a whining noise where the motor is trying to start, but it won't turn over. thanks

Hello everyone. I'm newish to motorbikes, spent the last 8 months riding a Honda CG125 while I plucked up the courage to take my test, now I've passed I have an FZR600, problem being I'm having starting issues with the bike. I apologise if this confuses anyone, I'm not the best at explaining things. (FIL is a mechanic but not really had chance to look fully, just fixed from what I'd told so far) I got the bike last Saturday from my father-in-law (FIL), got it back to mine and left it until Monday morning when it was time for work. Tried to start the bike and it wouldn't fire up and started clicking. I have a charger so hooked it up and left it for 30 minutes, …

I've just bought an FZR600R foxeye, this is the second one I've had. I found that the calipers were prone to binding due to corrosion ( I understand Yamaha forgot the dust seals in them or something). Are there any other calipers that will fit this bike that are more resilient?? Thanks Wayne

Is anyone familar with the technical service bulletin for weeping oil from the engine bots? I thought i might have blown a head gasket but it could be leaking oil from this bolt. I'm sure someone has ran into this before so any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi, I have recently changed the piston, and put on a replacement cylinder head on a 2004 TW 125, to overcome poor performance and low compression. Now all is back together again, but the engine spins freely (until the battery wants a rest) but it will not catch. I followed a workshop manual to the dot, so believe I got the timing correct, but just wonder.........is it possible to get the timing out by 180 degrees so the spark arrives at the wrong time? I set the cranshaft marker to meet the 'point', the line on the cam chain cog is nearly at the 12 'O' clock position and both the inlet and outlet tappets are 'free' so I assume I am at TDC....but how can I tell i…

Hi All, At the weekend while out for a ride my SR had a funny five, after topping up with petrol I started the bike in N and tapped down for first, as i did this the engine cut out, all the electrics were fine and it would start in N. So i started the long walk home and a couple of mins later (before going uphill) started it again tapped first and all was fine. Carried on my ride for 30mins or so no problem. Any ideas what this might have been? Thanks

I've just re-shimmed my FZR600R - it needed 13 shim changes. Bike runs nice and quiet now but only on full choke - even when warm the engine dies when the choke's closed. Any ideas please (re. carb adjustment) ? I'm thinking Pilot Jet &/or Float Height adjustment but which comes first ? Kawasakifreak.

Hi All, I've had a little problem on my 2000 FZR600 for a while in that the Rev Counter jumps to random positions then back to zero and occasionally works briefly. It appears the Rev counter runs on three wires. All of which have good continuity end to end. Now the Brown Wire runs from the electronic ignition to the counter and carries the signal. This wire seems to have some continuity with another wire on the ignition circuit (red & white). That's about as far as I can get with it. I can see the fault on my meter but don't know how to find it on the bike. Both wires concerned are part of the main loom and terminate in pretty complex connector blocks. How…

Hi Can anyone shed some light on something which should be obvious, I bought a 82 yam 650 maxim[as a bitsa project] which needed a rebuild, but there is something I can't figure out, I inspected the petrol tank and tap, the tap has two pipe fittings one main and one reserve, ok, I found the obvious main one to the carbs, but can't find where the other one is supposed to fit to the carbs ....or does it go somewhere else, air box, or wot???, or do I have the wrong carbs? I hope I have made sense, I bought a haynes but doesn't discuss anything about the second pipe??? Can any one help?? [Newbie bike builder] Daz

Does anyone know if you can upgrade the 50 cc engine in the LB50 Chappy to the 80cc engine? My dealer doesn't seem to know either. I've got 78 LB50. I can see that the connecting rod is the same part number between the 50 and the 80, so I'm betting that it's just the bore that's different, but does anyone out there know? Thanks in advance...
