I've just been to start me bike after finishing some bits but she hasn't been ran in bout 3 months so i knew the battery was going to be dead but i hooked it up to a mates bike with some jump leads and everything did seem ok but first of all when i pushed the bike along with just the ignition on the speedo was reading differnet speeds and then when i started it which it did fine, its reading no rpm, the oil/coolant light is flashing and the red diagnostic light on the rpm gauge flashes slowly. Now i know the rpm is working as i have just adjusted it on the TPS because i've just fitted new carbs, the oil level is fine. The bike will run fine but after a few mins the revs r…

Hi all bit of a strange one, my front brake disk is constantly covered in oil, and consequently has very spongy braking. When I bought the bike it appeared to be coming from the forks which the vendor agreed to fix, which he did. However the disk is still full of oil. Took it for a service on Saturday and the mechanic had the brakes off but couldn´t seem to see where the oil was coming from as there were no visible leaks coming from the attached pipes which feed to the calipers or anywhere else for that matter. He cleaned up the disk but by the time I had gone 100 metres to my house it was full of oil again. Has anyone suffered from this problem or does an…

Alright folks, My thundercat came fitted with a YM4 smartlock immobiliser (the one with the ring around the ignition with a little red light and an orange wire....), which has been fine til now has started cutting out my ignition while riding! its only happened a few times, and when it does the fob just needs to be nudged to deactivate it again but its a bit unnerving, if it happened during an overtake i'd be toast. Any ideas? dodgy contact? from looking at the instructions it looks like all the joints have been wrapped with heat shrinking stuff, so is it a dealer job? any help would be much appreciated. Ta. Tom.

I've had this problem on and off now for about 8 weeks, thought i'd sorted it over xmas but it seems to have come back. I rode the bike 2 days ago, about 15 miles to work and it was fine, when i came to the ride home about 4 miles into my journey it started to feel a bit down on power and the idle revs had dropped to the point where it was almost cutting out, it was also backfiring badly on the overun, at first i'd put it down to carb icing as it was quite cold and damp. Rode it to work the next day and as before the journey to work was without any problems but on the way home (in the rain) the back firing returned as did the really rough idle, the bike was…

right guys i have a dt (r?) 125, its water cooled and ive spent close or more than £400 on it getting it running, new pistons, carbs, rings, gaskets etc! It was running mint today, i left it in the garden ticking over and used a full tank of fuel, so thats the rings run it tidy, so today i went out and it was running fine, then towards the end of the day it just went buuurrrghhh and said f-ck off im not going no more! When bumping or trying to kick it over, its popping and backfiring, and im getting fireballs, i suspected headgasket, but no symptons or any sign of water in the wrong places, cleaned carb out as there was not alot of fuel going through but still the s…

I spoke to a mechanic today and he seemed to think I might have a major problem. - Clutch, once engaged, holds firm and bike runs fine, shifts fine - However, no matter how I adjust it, the clutch does not engage until about the last 5-10% of the clutch lever release - so the bike is rideable, but is tough to handle when stopping and starting often The mechanic thought that I might have trouble in the clutch basket, in which case parts are very hard to come by and I would most likely have to search salvage yards. Opinions?

I've just rebuilt the forks on my bike. The stanchions have been rechromed, new seals fitted ( teflon bushed retained ) and the correct amount of SAE10W oil used. The forks were reassembled as they came apart. There is no play in the fork legs and they are free to move up and down. The problem is that when I hit a bump in the road or go over a ramp, there is a knocking from the front end which wasn't there before. It doesn't affect handling at all but I am a bit concerned. They also tend to be a lot softer than previously, bottoming out under heavy braking. Anyone any idea what is wrong ?? Steve

Hi all, 1/ I went to top up my oil a bit, and as I took the cap off, the oil looked a bit milky and thick. Does any know what this means? 2/ The previous owner snipped the cable to the kickstand switch (for some reason), I've got a new one, but the service manual doesn't tell you/show you where to plug it in. Can anyone describe where its supposed to go? Thanks.

Hi guys, I'm new here. I have recently bought a xt125 x. It's my first bike and i love it. Now it's outfitted with a leovince SBK silencer. It sounds great and gives a little bit more power in the middle. Now i have been searching the internet for making my own custom exhaust. Was thinking of a Dual Silencer Akrapovic. with a special made part the split the exhaust. Anybody got any experience with this? In particular with making custom exhausts. Or does any of you know that the exhausts of the tw125 or the ttr125 fit on the xt? I think they use the same engine and the layout is quite the same. Greetings John

I just wanted to ask a couple questions. What is the diameter on the handle bars for the 82 xj 750 seca? i tried a 1 inch bar and a 7/8 inch bar. The 1 inch bar is too big. the 7/8 inch bar is ok for the risers, but the throttle and control boxes wont tighten down. Its got me baffled. I am trying to put a set of drag bars on it. Another question....is there a way to widen the back tire without messing up the drive shaft ailgnment??? Thanks, wildcard

Hi I really need to know if any one has any ideas to this problem of mine so here goes.. I've got my '98 thundercat and had it restricted to 33bhp (I'm only 18) and we've had nothing but trouble with it. Its very reluctant to get past the 6-7000 rev mark and wont go much past 70mph, wont move off from stand still very well and acceleration is very poor (worse than my 125). It did have a Scorpian exhaust on it and I'm wondering whether its been re-tuned to get the most out of it and its just not suiting the restrictors any ideas would be greatly appreciated

At the risk of sounding like I just stepped off the short bus, could anyone help me with some carb issues? I have a 1975 XS650 with stock carbs (MIKUNI) removed airbox and installed pod filters, also fabbed exhaust pipes with a slight baffle. that being said, Will the bike be running rich or lean? and how do I adjust the carbs to make it run right? as it is now, it starts and idles fine but stumbles real bad on excelleration levels out ok at higher rpm's and the left side is popping like crazy on deceleration. i've removed and cleaned the carbs already... according to the manual (which is very vague or i'm really stupid) the air needle has 5 notches and my bike is set at…

My xj 600 has an annoying knocking noise at tick over, once you open the throttle it goes. After some investigation, it seems to be the starter chain, or drive. Any gems of advise on how to get in their?
