I've got a 1991 XJ600 and on the way home today it broke down. First there was a loss of electrical power to the indicators, then a few miles later it lost power to the headlights and I heard a knocking noise. Stupidly, I continued on to see if I could nurse it home (a mile away), but the knocking got worse and the engine became jerky. I had to pull in and leave the bike because it became un-rideable. I tried to start the engine again to see if I could hear the rattle, but the battery was flat. Does anyone know what this might be? Had the alternator chewed itself up?

Hi guys I have just bought my very first BIg Bike(if a 600 is a big bike??) only to find that the gearbox oil is very milky having read some of the other threads they mostly point to a water cooling problem , But I dont as far as i know have a water cooling system I was lead to believe it was air cooled so where is the water coming from?? also when the bike gets hot I have noticed that that the overflow pipe that leads to the airbox is seeping quantities on milky water/oil mix should i be concerned or is just that the bike may have been in a showroom for a while? please help!! I wish to go back to the seller fully armed with all the info i can! Many Thanks.

This may have been answered here before, but I have a question about my 02 RS Midnight Star 1600. My bike starts to crap out (sputter, little power) as I am upshifting throught the gears, especially if I get on the throttle. Basically it feels like it has a governer that kicks in very quickly and forces me to upshift to have power back again. The owners manual gives recomended shift speeds for each gear, is this part of the issue? This becomes somewhat dangerous when passing cars etc, because of the power loss in each gear. Can I fix this issue? Is this the rev limiter, a governor, or what? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks FYI Mostly stock bike except for the foll…

The 86 FJ 1200 I just bought has the V&H exhaust. The back half of the exhaust is ok, but the front half out of the motor is rusted. First off I'm sure I'll have trouble getting the bolts off, but how do I get rid of the rust and what do I do to the pipes once I get rid of it? Thanks

Hi, I've just got a 2001 R6 and have a small problem........more of an annoyance really The neutral light doesn't work and I can only start the bike when the side stand is up and the clutch is pulled in. I presumed that the neutral switch is faulty so took a look at it last night and can see that the previous owner has done a bodge. The right-angled connecter has been removed and a ring connector taped onto the end of the wire and wrapped in sparky's tape. They've then tapped a thread into the end of the switch and secured the ring connector with a screw I gave the inside end of the neutral switch a clean with some brake cleaner to make sure that it was…

Hello all - quick question: Is the alternator/generator integral to the engine of a 2002 R6, or external? I'm pretty sure it's knackered, but along with a whole host of other electrical problems (which are about to be sorted) it needs doing first. I'm just not sure if the alternator is inside the engine or bolted on. I think it's bolted on, but it keeps being called different things! Many thanks

My 1998 XJ600S drips oil like mad when hot (a ride of 15-20 mins), I thought it was because the previous owner had over filled the oil, so i drained some till it was about halfway between the two lines in the little glass window. This hasn't stopped it. I've got a big bottle of oil, and a new filter to go on, but I need any ideas of what might be causing it before I change them (incase its nothing to do with them) Here is a pic, of what I think is the breather hose? Its where the oil drips from anyway (the pic is taken from the left-hand side of the bike, under the petrol tank. Cheers. http://www.flickr.com/photos/35585468@N02/3296030558/

The rims on the 86 1200 I just bought are painted. Is there a way to strip the paint without taking the rim off the bike? I know it would be easier if they was off but I have so many other projects going on this bike. I am wondering if some type of paint stripper would work or will that hurt the rims? Thanks.

I'm getting there with my bike... Exhaust - done Starting - sorted (overhauled carbs, replaced caps and plugs) Brakes - bedding in So, I took it for a ride the other night and noticed the engine was making a kind of buzzing noise, or high frequency rattle, at about 3-4000 revs (I was bedding in the brakes so didn't get much above that). I've since had a listen with the bike in the drive, and it sounds like it's coming from the cam chain or the valves. Seems okay at tickover and just above (where the clutch rattle comes into play - but that's another story). If the engine is revved, the noise kicks in and then recedes as the revs drop. I'm going to adjust th…

I recently purchased a 1993 XJR400 for my wife. It needed a lot of love and attention, to which I have certainly given. Having spent the last two weeks fixing her up, re-spraying scratched engine casings, putting a set of Renthals on, new plugs, oil and filter change, un-seized the front brakes, put new fork oil seals and dust seals on, plus a lot of polishing bolts and metal bits, new streetfighter headlamps, battery etc etc. I finally finished and took the Yam out for a spin. The engine sounds as sweet as a nut, but as I opened up the throttle I was disappointed with the low end pick up, when it reached 10-11,000 revs it seemed to pull a bit better. Is this…
