My bike (1986 FJ1200) was purchased with aftermarket handlebars. I bought stock bars and bar ends. During the install I realized that someone must have lowered the front end when they installed the bars. Is there anything I need to watch out for when I bring the front end back up so I can install the stock bars?

This is for a 86 FJ1200. I am changing the gasket on the valve cover, (cylinder cover according to manual). Not the haed gasket, just the cover gasket. On the motor side right where the gasket sits, there are 8 treaded holes, however, no screws go into these holes. These holes sit directly under the gasket and are very easy to see in the manual. Some of these have somehow filled with oil, but some havn't. Should I clean the oil out of these before I install the gasket? I know its not much oil, but it seams this oil would heat up and perhaps affect my gasket in time. Also, should I use some sealant to hold the gasket to the cover so it stays in place when I flip it over to…

This has probably been covered before, but a trawl of the site didn't show anything immediately (instant coffee isn't fast enough today). I have a 2005 FZ6 Naked and all has been well until this morning. It stood for about 2 weeks whilst i was on holiday and at the weekend I cleaned it, checked oil water & tyres etc replacing the rear bulb which had mysteriously gone after last parking up. After cleaning, I ran the bike to ensure that everything was still OK then put it to bed!! This morning I pulled the bike out the garage and the battery was as flat as a pancake, whilct I can deal with this anyone any thoughts as to why ion the course of 2 days it goes from …

Hi all, just joined, live outside Glasgow Scotland and currently ride an XJR1300 2000 model. I am looking for someone who will know or could find out if NGK or another manufacturer do plug caps for my bike as i do not want to pay Yamaha £25.00 for each single unit OEM!!! Shocking price. Manual said plug cap resistance is 10k ohms and i think 102 degree angle but dont know if it should be specific size etc. Quite new to this and bit stumped. Hopefully someone can help. Many thanks Peter

My engine seems to have cam chain rattle according to a few ppl and some mechanics but I've been told in the same breath that its "very very" rare that they've had to change the cam chain! I've changed the tensioner and put a new one on but the noise still remains. The noise is quiet when the bike is cold and gets worse the hotter the engine gets. Amusingly enough I got told that my engine is well quiet when I had a new back tyre put on yesterday haha "I thought yeh, wait till it warms up then you won't be saying that lol". I've got it booked in for its m.o.t in 2 weeks and the mechanic is gonna open her up and have a gander inside to see whats what. Any suggestions fo…

Hi Guys I've got a Yamaha DT125R (2006 reg), has around 10.000 miles and I believe it still has the original tyres. The back tyre needs to be replaced really soon. The front tyre is still in very good condition (original tyre) I commute to work on the bike every day. All the riding is done within London mostly. Any recommendations and what prices should I be looking at with fitting including. I'm thinking of doing in my local Yamaha dealer. Thanks for the help P.S going for my practical bike test next week woohoo (currently riding on CBT)

Ive had the 89 exup (not u/d forks) since new, standard fork oil is 10W. Fatherhood made me give up 12 yrs london courier work (not on the exup!) so my ear is no longer to the ground . I am replacing the fork seals, i am wondering whether it's worth increasing the oil viscosity/damping a bit. Any advice from an expeienced fzr 1000 owner would be massively appreciated either here or to [email protected] Cheers Chris.

Hi everyone I'm planning on giving my SR125 a service this weekend if the weather holds up. It will be the first time for me since I got the bike after doing my CBT last autumn. I don't have much mechanical knowledge, in fact part of the reason I got the bike was to teach myself all the basic stuff like this, but I'd appreciate a bit of advice. In the Haynes manual it suggests 20W40 SE engine oil but reading around various forums I see a lot of people suggesting this is mainly used in hot climates and it could make the bike harder to start in cold weather. Plus it doesn't seem to be as widely available as 10W40. The owners manual doesn't really specify, it just has…

I just bought a 1986 FJ1200. The front brakes do not work at all. There was no fluid in the reservoir and the cap screw was stripped out. I was able get the screw out and filled the res. I thought the system just needed to be bled, however, after bleeding, they still do not work at all. I'm not even sure where to start with this issue. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I'd really appreciate any assistance that someone can offer here. Long story short... My SR125 is here, my parents moved to France and took a lot of my things with them. This includes pots and pots of keys. I only had one key for my little SR and I have just been stripping her down so I can use her again. However, I can't go much further without access to the fuel tank or ignition. Yes I could ruin them but I'm pretty sure my parents have the key. Trouble is that they have hundreds there and they're hunting through them for me. They haven't found anything yet with a tell-tale "Yamaha" printed on it so I was just hoping that someone might be able to dir…

I am changing the handlebars on my 1986 FJ1200. When I removed the throttle cable housing, I realized that one of the cables is frayed and about to break. The cable that is frayed is the one towards the rear of the bike. Is this considered the push cable? I just want to make sure that I purchase the right one. Thanks for any replies.

Help please! Any XT350 electro-genius out there?? In the final throes of a rebuild, when coming to the wiring hook up, everything now works (thanks Madison for the diagrams) bar the headlight on-off dip & beam. Can't seem to find the live power supply to the lighting switch on left handlebar (OFF, PO, ON). From the main switch there's power to the pilot and tail light via blue/red lead for park position. I'm believing the plain blue is the supply to the lighting circuit when key is in on position. From the lighting coil there's a red/yellow, to a connector with pink (for horn) and blue (to lights switch) On the connector red/yellow becomes brown up to light switch.…
