Was out on my xj 600 diversion last night when I came off it. First bike crash now part of the club. The bike seems fine mechanically but the bike fairing is all smashed. Was thinking about making it a naked bike and was wondering how easy this would be on the xj.

Hi guys after a bit of advice, My clutch appears to have stopped working, the cable hasnt snapped, but if i start the bike and select 1st or 2nd it just jumps forward and stalls. I did drop it before this started rode about 2 miles to work with no issue and then when i came to go home this happened. If the bike is off and im in nuetral i can push it freely but if a select a gear and pull the clutch and try to push it locks the wheel. Any ideas? Thanks Paul

In the back of my mind I seem to remember an article in the old Motorcycle Mechanics magazine where they removed the blanking plate from an air cooled RD250 allowing the use of the 6th gear which was present in the box but blanked off for the European market. I seem to remember there was another part required to stop you going from 6th gear down to first !!! Can anyone confirm my deteriorating memory? ATB J

guy i bought bike off bodged a k and n air filter on that has proceeded to fall off. i priced up a standard system for 100quid or i cud get a cone shaped filter and attatch it straight on for less than 15quid. Any ideas or tips on whats best. Im wary of usuing a custom filter as it was sucking so much air in it would lose power and stall. Thanks x

hiya! right... i've just spent my evenings rebuilding an old fzr 600 (3he) it'd been down the road and i fancied a streetfighter so it got the treatment. Behold! i've got as far as the last 5% and i'm struggling... the bike will start and run, but has no power. after running it for a while it's apparent (by the temperature of the exhaust downpipes) that cylinders 1&3 ain't firing. the carbs have been off and cleaned spotless...jets blown out and diaphragms checked etc. there IS a spark on 1@3, i know i've had them out and seen a fat blue spark out of each plug, when you hold your palm over the carb inlets there's a sucking s…

I have oil leaking from the oil pump strainer cover and wish to know if I can change the cover seals without removing the engine. The parts catalogue suggests that I can but I would prefer to get some first hand knowledge before removing the cover.

Hi All, I need some advice please travelling home from work on Wednesday i was in a line of traffic when i realised the car in front of me had no break lights, so i backed off a little to give myself plenty of time. I saw blue flashing lights reflecting off some houses in the distance and realised that an emergency vehicle was coming towards me, was not sure from where at this point as the weather was cold and wet so visability was not great. i started to apply my breaks slighty getting ready to stop when i realised the car in front had come to a complete stop with no warning, so i had to break hard!!! now it is at this point i need the advice, with retro spect i…

Hi everyone! I hate to say it but im a noob. But i am a noob with a good heart and in need of some help. I recently had the front fork seals replaced and i found that one of the forks was leaking a little afterwards. I spoke to the mechanic and he said that was normal. The front end feels a bit sluggish and doesn't bounce back quickly at all when i put some weight on it and when going over rough bits in the road it feels like the forks have been replaced buy bricks made of dark matter. It's really harsh on the wrists. Can anyone offer any help please?!!! Many thanks Azazel

Hey everyone in yamaha land, This is my first post and first of many questions concerning my "new to me" 1980 xs650. I am new to the xs world, I have always had yamaha dirt bikes but not street bikes. I bought the bike about 2 weeks ago off of craigslist for $375, not running and not knowing what was all wrong with the bike. After a saw it in person I had to have it, I will try to include pics. I got it home, admired it for about a day, then I decided to start the process of getting her going. First I hooked myboat battery up, took the plugs out and put a shot of gas in the cylinders, checked the oil and kicked it 3 times and it fired off for about 2 seconds. …

Hello I have a Yamaha Tmax XP500 scooter and wondered if anyone could suggest what could be causing it to misfire when moving off from cold. After about a couple of minutes once moving the bike runs fine, and picks up well. It wil happily go up to 80mph and cruise all day without any misfires. Once warm it will tick over fine, again with no misfire. I put new plugs and fuel filter on it when I bought it 12 months ago, and have cleaned the air filter. It is a 2001 carb model, so I'm wondering if it could be that it needs the carbs cleaning?. Cheers
