  1. Hey i am new here i am having an issue with my dtr, its been off the road for 13 months so i have given it a new piston, plug, air filter, gaskets, chain and sprockets, carb taken apart and cleaned etc.It starts on the first kick ticks over and revs to any rpm without a problem whilst in neutral...i have ridden it once and traveled 300 yards before it lost power and cut out and now i cant even get that far...its fine until you release the clutch past the biting point instead of moving off the engines dies..its exactly like fuel starvation yet the fuel supply is fine does any one have any suggestions for me? was meant to be mot"ed yesterday thank you for your time.

Whilst riding my 2002 r6 over the week end it suddenly started cutting out at a certain rev then would carry on until got to same point in the next gear. Then whilst in neutral when ideling wouldnt sit at a constant idle the revs were jumping. I think this may be an electrical fault as everything else seems fine and when i took the back of the bike off the alarm/immoberliser (have a meta 375t fitted) was making aloud clicking like it was shorting an it was causing something else to click. Does anyone have any ideas or had the same problem? Cheers

Having got a ratty pre-Divvie XJ600, I want to try and clean it up a little. The alloy fittings are showing years of environmental abuse now. Any lacquer that may have been applied at the factory is long gone, to be replaced with a delightful furry, bloomed finish. So, I think that while copious amounts of Solvol Autosol might make it shiny, I may have to resort to other methods. Can alloy fittings be painted/stoved? Or does anyone have any other suggestions for making them look better, other than throwing them away and buying new?

Hi all.... I have posted a similar topic at 'The Bar' but thought also to post here too.... BACKGROUND. Last year i acquired an XT125R to rebuild for my step son to be - a project for us both to work on over Christmas. The bike was in bits - an unridden/unregistered frame (2005-2007 vintage) (complete ie., wheels, brakes, plastics, lights, etc), an engine and wiring loom. Have spent the last few months collecting the remaining bits - mainly electrical (coils, regulator, etc) and hopefuly now have all what is needed. I splashed out on a Haynes manual too. PROBLEM. The Haynes manual does not provide sufficient definition/visibility of where components are fitted…

I have a 1994 FZR 600r Foxeye and since i've had it the fuel light stays on constantly when the swith is on fuel. If i flick it on reserve it goes off. Is this simply a mix up with wiring?

  9. I've got a little 100cc leaner bike; a Yamaha RSX100. Anyway, when I get to about 5000 revs (I think!) it feels like a turbo is kicking in, suddenly I get plenty of power! It does this in most of the gears, is this normal for a little 2 stroke or could there be something wrong?

I have a 1992 xj600 which leaks oil through the main drive shaft seal, not a huge amount but enough for me to have to take the casing off once a week to clean up,I have read in the manual that the gear shaft seal can be changed from out side and was wondering if the drive shaft seal could be done the same way, or do you have to split the engine? Thanks for any advise. Huw.

  11. Looking as if the gods don't want me to be a biker. I bought a Yamaha RSX-100 yesterday after passing my CBT on Saturday. Bikes been running pretty good and this morning I had a really good ride. Just been for a ride before it got very dark and the rear tyre suddenly went flat. Just pushed the bike 2 miles home in great anger! What's the normal process for getting a new tyre fitted? Both tyres are in good shape aesthetically, the bike passed its MOT in Feb with these, so I've either got a puncture or perhaps they're just old and shitty. I'm just not sure what to do, do I need to transport the bike to a garage some how? I have a car but I doubt the bike will…

Just a quick one i have just bought my first big bike yamaha xj600 bought it for a good price full service etc and owned by a lady and garaged for the last 5 years, hence why i went for this as i was used to a 125cc and thought not bad bike even tho considered an astra diesal van in the bike world!! but you gotta start some where?..the bike starts just fine but it is hunting does not have a nice balanced tick over plus lots of white smoke when you rev it up and it smells of fuel i.e smoke smells of fuel a bit, there is no creamyness in the oil and no leaks etc around the bike, there is a slight tapping as well, should i be very worried and would it be worth getting the c…

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie here. This is my first bike, we all have to start somehwere Since I have a car too, my bike has been in the garage since November, but now the weather is nicer, I want to get it out again. I don't want to just start it and use it as it's 20 years old so I'd rather give her some attention before using her on the road. I was thinking of change the oil, and replacing the filters, but apparently it doesn't have an oil or air filter that is replaceable? I'm interested to know what you guys think I need to do to give it some TLC, though prior to going into storage, it'd just passed an MOT with flying colours. I don…

  16. Hey all!!! I did my best to search previous topics concerning my problem, so as not to crowd the forum, but I could only piece together bits and pieces So I have a '93 XJ600. It has been sitting since about October, although, I had to fuel tank off for paint (carbs covered) for the entire winter, so I don't think it's so much a bad gas problem as it is something else. I installed a new battery, had it running for awhile. It idled pretty poorly, but I figured I'd let it warm up and try to just run it for awhile before I panicked. I took it up and down the street in front of my house, and it ran even worse. In neutral, it would run up the RPMs if you throttled it re…

Me and a friend of mine have been working on a 1983 XS400 that she bought recently. It ran, but it ran a little rough, so we took off the carbs cleaned out the jets and ports (found something strange... for some reason one of the jets on both carbs has a rubber plug in it... figured it must be only used in higher displacement engines or something) reassembled it, and tried running it again. it runs a lot better now, it idles very nicely... but when you rev the engine (especially when riding it) the bike backfires loudly. seems to MOSTLY do it out of the left pipe. So i'm just looking for some input on this. I've also noticed that the pipes don't seal against…

Hi guys Im a newbe to yamaha but ive bought a 1995 yzf 750 r, according to the previous owner it has r1 gold spot calipers . It needs front discs and I dont know if the ones fitted are r1 items or if I can replace them with standard 750 discs, also the bolts holding the discs on are normal allen head bolts and not pan head, is this right? Been looking at black shadow wavy discs, anyone tried these before. thanks Alan

Hi Everyone Bought a TW 125 which had an Arrow XT600E 95/01 silencer fitted. The owner had also cut a hole in the air-filter plastic cover and fitted a foam filter. The original air filter was still in situ but the bike ran like a dog when looking for revs. I removed the original air filter and fitted a protective filter to the top of the snorkel. I also disconnected the crankcase breather from the air box. Question is - As I've not had the bike from new and not made the silencer change I'm not sure if the fitting of the Arrow silencer has really made any diff to the bike's overall performance and I'm concerned that with running lean it may suffer from premature e…

Hi, dont know if anyone can help... I am lowering my 2007 R6 my aprox 30mm drop. By my not very mechanically minded head, i think this will make the side stand a bit too long. Can anyone tell me if i can adjust where the side stand is fixed or will actually need to worry about the side stand or know if an older model R6 or R1 has a shorter side stand that would fit my 07 R6. I seem to recall the 2004 R1 is a lower bike than the 07 R6. Any advice much appreciated. BTW - already looked into cutting and welding the existing stand, problem is they are made of monkey metal and if i weld it, the stand will crack under the R6 weight.
