Hi folks Please forgive me for posting a query as my introductory submission but I'm in a bit of a pickle and would be very grateful for any advice. I just took my XVS125 Dragstar in for a service and MOT and after receiving the bad news that it required a new chain & sprocket set in order to pass the MOT, when I went to collect the bike that afternoon, they apologised because they'd been meaning to call to advise me that the alternator was also kaput. Being a bit of a fairweather biker, I've hardly used the bike this winter but when I rode it for the first time a few weeks back, I was pleasantly surprised that it started perfectly. It had a good run back the…

Hi guys, I have just had my bike ('08 YBR125) in the garage for a couple of days as it wouldn't start. The electric starter tries to turn the engine but the engine itself doesn't want to know. It's happened a few times and I have been able to start it in the end by sheer determination and various key/throttle/button jiggerypokery. Anyway the other day it wasn't having any of it. The guys at the garage have said they have whittled it down to the Lean Angle Sensor or 'Tilt Switch'. I am not so sure about this - would it even allow the ignition to start trying to turn the engine over if this was faulty? I am hoping its not a faulty ECU... Essentially they want £…

After some anguish and then some focused deliberate brooding and dwelling over the issue of possible crankcase pressure I decided to remove the breather cover gasket as pictured. I am wondering the necessity of putting it back in place or just leaving it removed. Is it's function really that important, does it prevent droplets of splashing oil from making it up to the breather tube and intake?

Hi all hope you knowledgeable types have your thinking caps on! my daughter and i are building a special with an sr125 petrol tank, trouble is we still cannot find a cap for it. we were searching the web and found a poor one for a virago xv125. does anybody know if this will fit? or indeed if any other cap will? been looking for a while now and cannot afford the only one we found new from Taiwan at £80.00.seems a shame to buy another tank at £30.00 just for the cap. help please as we are stuck. last resort is to cut out the cap and replace with standard style. cheers rob

Posted Today, 11:13 PM I need a new rear caliper for my 900 Divvy, has anyone upgraded or can anyone tell me what will fit as a standard replacement? I believe the FZR 600 caliper is the same, as well as the 850 TDM. Any other thoughts? Like This Quote MultiQuote Edit Report

Hi all, New member here - name is Steve, recently came into possession of 125 virago 2001 - motorcycling experience negligible - mechanical skills very basic but willing to learn, just a quick question if you don't mind ( probably the first of many dumb ones ) .The acceleration of the xv 125 seems a little sluggish so I was thinking of putting a new rear sprocket on with a couple more teeth would this improve it noticeably - I'm not too bothered about the max speed , if so would I need a new chain with how many more links ? cheers in advance

I just bought a yamaha DT-175 as my first bike, it runs great and is a blast to learn on, but I find that as you drive, everything gets dimmer. I had it out today for almost 2 hours, and by the end, the headlight was pretty dim (with it running, dead when turned off) and the turn signals wouldn't work at all. I know it must be producing SOME power because it runs even with the battery dead, but the lights are very dim so it clearly isn't producing enough to keep the battery charged and everything working at full power. Any suggestions? I've never owned or worked on a bike, but have fairly extensive experience in cars, which is where I draw my conclusions from, so I apolog…

I recently purchased a 1979 XS750 Special with 16k miles. Bought a new battery and it turns over like a champ, but won't start or even sputter. I replaced the vacuum petcocks with manual ones, and have fuel at the carbs. Pulled the plugs and have bright blue spark. Another issue just discovered today is that the kick start just mysteriously quit working. Worked fine for the two weeks since I bought it, kicked it a couple times after I changed oil today, now nothing. The guy I bought it from insisted he rode it last summer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, I've got an '81 XT550 and it's backfiring alot, mainly when I come off the gas. It also does it when I kick it over whilst holding the decompression lever, usually just after an unsucessful attempt to start - it always starts on the second or third kick both hot and cold. The bike has always backfired, I'm sure most of the older big singles always have but these far more aggressive sounding, super loud buggers! Any kind of help is appreciated, cheers.

Hi, New to motorcycling, and new to the forum! I have been given my Dad's 1982 XS400J, and although it is not perfect, it is basically stock, and looks/runs great. I'll post some pics soon... To finish off the work I have done to it, I am looking for a set of fuel tank emblems... I have been combing eBay, etc., but no luck so far. There is a set for a XJ650 that look identical, and I am wondering if any of you guys know if they would fit... Or maybe is there another way to source these parts? I guess it would be New Old Stock, if there are any out there... Looking forward to hopefully finding a pair, but either way, it's cool to be here on the forum. I plan to keep t…

Hi all, I've just about finished rejetting my 125 Dragstar, just wondered what your thoughts are on it, as I think the bike is quite thirsty for what I've done. I know its winter, so the air is more dense which means more oxygen, so I am worried that for summer, it may start to foul. Although its running fine, I'll let you know everything I've done. 1. Rubber air restrictor removed, holes drilled on both plastic parts of the sheild shaped intake leading straight through to the new stock air filter. 2. About two 1cm holes poked in each back baffle. 3. .98 Main jet, and needle clip is in lowest position, (there are 3) meaning its one notch down from stock …

Im doing a full overhaul on the front brakes of my '95 Foxeye, during which Ive split the calipers. Does anyone know where I can get replacements for the small 'o' rings that seal the 2 caliper halves? Ive looked everywhere I can think of online but come up with nothing. I really dont want to put the old o rings back in as they are likely to be as old as the bike and I wouldnt trust them. They are the original 4 pot Sumitomo calipers if that helps. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.
