  1. Hello again. So, I mentioned in another thread that I'm working on restoring a '78 DT175 that's just like what I had when I was a kid. Here's what it's doing As the title says, it cuts out at around 4000 RPM and just kind of struggles and then just surges up to about 6000 RPM and generally runs rough. It was also spewing gas out of the carberator overflow whenver I reved up the RPMS high, so yesterday I replaced carberator. It doesn't spew gas and runs nicer at an idle, but it still does the thing where it struggles as soon as you get into the power band and then it surges almost to the red line. Basically, it runs almost exactly the same as before and maybe a little w…

  2. Hi i was wondering if anybody has experience painting bike plastics? i ask because i am nearly finished a rebuild on my DT and the powder coated frame and brackets , forks etc look really smart but i didnt wont to ruin the overall look with crappy plastics! i am fairly handy with a spray can (misspent youth!) and i have reaserched the techniques and feel confident to do it, but does it really come up "good enough" or should i get them done by a pro or just buy new plastics. also any ideas on decent colours frame and brackets are black, engine is silver.

  3. Does anyone have a manual for the DT175E? I would just like to know the factory carb settings particularly the main jet size, clip position, and air screw position. Also if your manual specifies I am at 5000' above sea level. Thanks -Dave

ok, bear with me on this one. im in the middle of a house move and the bike is about 3 miles away. so i wont be able to tell you things about it untill ive been up there and done stuff.. any way heres the deal. picked up an rsx100 the other day, and it is in a bit of a dire straight cosmetically its not to bad. needs a new indecator lens. and had apparantly passed its last mot before the issue started.. Now all i know is that it starts but has no power. and the previous owner thought iot could be carb related, but he is no expert. it has had a new piston and not that long ago "i assume to try and rectify the issue" and if they replaced the piston im sure they…

Help needed quickly! I have a DT125RE (2006 model) and I also have my bike test in 3 days for my full (UK) licence. I was out practicing for my test this morning when all of a sudden the bike was losing power and was being very unresponsive when I was pulling on the throttle. The bike was making loads of noise as well. It turns out that the servo motor for the power valve (YPVS) had died on me! I phoned up my local bike garage (the only one near me) and they said that they couldn’t see to my bike until next week, after the test. Is it possible to ride the bike with the valve pinned? I’ve noticed that when you take the cover off the power valve there is pin hole…

Hello all, I have taken possession of a 1991 XJ600, on the road, plenty good enough for everyday service. Kinda.... On our return journey to my house I found that it has a tendency to list to the left which becomes a veer to the left if hands are removed from bars. Also, there is a fluttering felt through the bars, possibly Headstock (although this feels fine) possibly shock linkage bush (with which there is some play). Left hand fork leg has evidence of fluid leak so a seal set is to be installed and I hope with forks removed, refurbished and re-installed, straight ahead service will be resumed. I aspire to a more modern (17" front and back end, proper sized whee…

i just got a engine of someone who said it was a dt 125 to put in a dt 125 lc mk 1 frame , trouble is it doesnt look like a dt 125 lc engine as shown in the haynes manual ,the oil pump is on the top and water pum on the bottom ,so im wondering if this is off a later model if anyone has any ideas , the second problem is i went to check the numbers to see if i could find out the engine and guess what nonumber the plate where it should be the square on the top f the engine looks like it has been filed away there is only a short number on the left casing 3BN02 Y-1. would i still be able to use this engine on a road bike?

So I got to the stage of putting in fuel, oil and a well charged battery. And then, kicked the poor wee thing to death. I started to get angry. I really shouldn't have, it didn't deserve it that much and it went from 6.7v down to 4.3 very quickly, so I had to stop. It has a new air filter, the fuel is coming out the excess drain tube (I know that isn't a sign its getting to the cylinder, but im going to check that tomorrow) and the battery when I started was 6.7v. It did pop a few times, and its a new spark plug, so there is a spark (again, i'll check the quality and wetness tomorrow). This question is really more of a way to set the scene for the innevitable question …

Bit of a wonky insertion here... Talking about the oil filter lads... XVS 125, it went in wobbly, and I have OCD so it scares the hell out of me... when its wonky I dont like it, makes me want to take it apart and try again and re-do it all day long... I'm guessing the Dragstars oil filter is "wrong installation" proof, it just seemed "feely" for me... all I have to rely on. It don't seem like there was room for it to be installed incorrectly, so I'm guessing all is ok? I suppose I just need re-assurance to make me feel better... or someone to say I've fuked it so I can go and kill myself. Any kind people out there? Cheerz

  15. Hi. 1) What fuel should I use in my 1978 DT175? The easy choises would be 87,89, or 91 octane. Which is advised? 2) I need to order an air cleaner element for the same bike. I can find K&N's that'll fit, or a NOS / original. 3) I figure if I go K&N I'll use their filter oil & cleaner products, but if I get an original - do I just oil it with 30w oil and put a little axle grease on the sealing edge, or is there some better way to do it these days? (use K&N cleaner and filter oil on an original type?) I appreciate any and all input. Thansk. Matt

I was advised to check the valves on my bike. I need a feeler gauge, I have looked on eBay and found these, I just want to know if it is suitable. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRAPER-10-BLADE-METRIC-FEELER-GAUGE-SET-GUAGE-73988-/160660458906?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item25681c0d9a

What shall I do with the plug connected to the loom which will no longer be of use? Shall I cover it in tape? And how will this affect all the other electrics?

Hi, My stepson purchased a 2007 YBR 125 last autumn. Lovely little bike, but it has just started being unreliable. If he leaves it out in the sun it becomes impossible to start. When its cooled down...hey presto....its starts and runs beautifully. The local Yamaha shop has been shall we say, very cagey and dont seem to be able to diagnose the problem dispite it being connected to thier computer. Has any one ever heard of this fault and if so what can he do to rectify it? Update...it wouldnt start again today....so we used our logical brains and threw and bucket of cold water on the tank and engine area....and guess what!! IT STARTED...Does this help diagnose the proble…
