Engine seized up as result of exhaust side of piston's skirt breaking apart and falling into lower end of engine. Yes there was engine oil and also coolant, both before and after the "seizure"... or that would have been a big lecture to the boy! I read on another blog this is usually the result of running to lean, thus too hot and pop??? In hindsight, the bike was accumulating some oil/sand at the exhaust port/muffler connection on the cylinder. It was initiated by an over full oil condition, which was corrected, weeks before. But, maybe that popped the seal. The bike started, ran well, plenty of power, it was odd. Another blogger suggested it is caused by too muc…

Hey everyone, Just bought a new to me 1980 Yamaha DT175. The bike is in mint condition and only has 600 original miles on it. The tac and speedo are in miles not sure if this is originally an American bike or if they all came that way, I live in Canada. Anyway, it runs really well and I have already taken it deep into the mountains, put about 50 miles on it and have no worries about the reliability of this thing. I am having an issue with the top speed. Guys on the internet are saying it should run at 120kph and mine tops out at around 50mph, roughly 80kph? It pulls pretty hard and idles well, but always struggles to get past 7000RPM. It will rev up 10,000rpm in …

I've been quiet (lurking and enjoying the YBR over winter) Now passed A licence and looking to move up to a bigger bike. Torn between a new MT07 abs and a slightly old Honda Hornet abs. I know I'm on a Yammy site but would welcome any thoughts that more experienced heads may have on the matter.

Hi guys, I have an 2010 xt125r. Mint bike, great fun but my speedo has gone pop. I know this means a new one is needed but I want together an aftermarket one (trailtech or koso) but was wondering if it's easy to swap or how much it cost to get a garage to do it? Cheers fellas!

Just when I thought I was in the clear. CN ask me to send them the insurance certificate back as I cancelled it!!! That will be the 19 page off that they emailed then. I'm not printing a copy of that to stick in the post when I haven't printed it out in the first place. I sent them an email saying printed copies have been destroyed. Now I wait for the red tape to strangle me.

Although I`m a stickler for original..couldn`t take it anymore and decided to get the RD going faster (I need this bike to do power wheelies). I`m told jetting does not have to be changed so just gonna bolt them on and see how she goes. These are locally made Bosson exhausts..made just 12km from my house. They reckon 20-30% more power.

After suffering with a sore arse a few weeks back I splashed out on a Mustang seat for my bike, it was a lot of cash but figured I've only one arse and I plan to to go on a few long trips this year. Took the first trip on the new seat today, it was only about 140 miles but first impressions were good. Just a run down to the coast to take advantage of the sun and to have a bite to eat, here is the view from the burger van looking down on Pompy

(Sorry about all these tech posts) Turned on my laptop and on the bottom icon bar there was an unfamiliar Windows symbol. I clicked on it and it's a free Windows 10 download. It's the full system as well. I read about this ages ago and was waiting for t but forgot all about it. Was debating whether or not to get it as I like and am used to the one I have but thought I might as well move forward as I'm currently on Windows 7. Check your computers.

I got this app probably a year ago, I never use it because it is so badly designed and a nightmare to navigate. It doesn't let you access the forum or area you want. It just displays random posts from random sub forums. It also has other sites which I have no interest in at all and won't let me delete them. What a load of crap.

Just a wondering where you folk get your fastners from these days. Bought some for the DT off the interweb but they have disappeared now. It was a generic 'dip' box of mixed stuff for 30 odd quid. Now run out. Some of the stuff on the top end of the tdr, esp the stuff between the cyl has got a bit 'rural' looking. Couple took the usual 'imagination' to remove. So any pointers for some allen headed stainless stuff. ta

Hi folks. Just wondered if anybody could help... I rebuilt a Yamaha V80 engine (same as PW80 if that means anything to anyone) as i bought it on ebay as a runner, but the case got cracked in transit, not ideal. Anyway, i stripped it down and used the cases from another engine and rebuilt the engine. All seemed ok with build, i used Threebond to join the halves together as recommended on forums (no paper gasket). Anyway, it doesn't run properly. I feel i have fooled around with everything trying to get it sorted. Basically, in stock form, carb, autolube, air filter etc) it just doesn't run well. It bogged down massively and wouldn't allow for any road speeds. I atta…

what is the easiest way to drain the gas from the virago 1000? this is my first yamaha. i am very familiar with british bikes, and hondas but this bike has two gas tanks and no petcock. i don't want start pulling hoses and end up with a mess. the clymer manual isn't very helpful, just says to remove lower hose from sub-tank. i need to remove carbs for re-build.

Does anybody have any tips on how to stop the bike cutting out on tickover. The carbs have been rebuilt, fueling checked and the tickover speed altered, now at 1600rpm. It still cuts out after riding and then stopping at lights and is difficult to start again.

I know its not very exciting but after having to take my exhausts off I figured i'd give em the usual blast of black to smarten them up. Well I noticed some quite substantial rust bubbles in the paint so decided to knock it back to get rid and give a good key. Jesus it took over an hour to clear the rust, all the hot spots had rust forming UNDER the paint. Each little bubble would show an area the size of a fag packet that needed treating and the front of the exhaust is completely stripped back to the front of the expansion chamber. The steel must be truly fkin awful quality. I went from cleaning a couple of blisters on the swan neck to practically stripping i…
