i understand the power valve and how it works but i have read that there are restrictions in the power valve system in my model , my range were apparantly the first ones to come with a fully working power valve but pin it either open or closed and where the power valve stops working at a certain rpm, i have noticed on mine that it seems to sort of build up slowly, unless you rag it obviously, if im in too high of a gear just to give me more time to observe , it sort of pulls nicely but at low revs , slowly building up, where u get a sudden burst of power , but then if u keep trying to push the gear further revving more it loses power, surrely it should keep the power u…

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi, I'm a bit new to this but I've had a look round and it all seems quite civilised. I've been around bikes since the late '60s my first real bike was a James 250 Sports Superswift and then moved on to Bonnies and a Triton and then the same old story marriage and all that, just the odd small commuting honda but nothing for a while. Anyway I recently got an XT 660 R and well I'm impressed. Its the most comfortable machine I've ridden and suits me perfect. Ive got a couple of questions if someone can answer or advise, First can anyone recommend a suitable replacement chain and sprocket kit nothing too fancy or pricey (ub 40) I'm no boy ra…

Hi all Rebuilding 1977-78 DT400E this is the USA version of MX' got to the stage of setting oil pump and carb, Regarding the pump everything I've read says hold throttle open and adjust cable to line up mark on pulley adjuster with pin there is no way this will turn enough to line up? although there is another mark which I can line up with throttle closed? Regarding the carb undo sight plug and adjust cble so you can just see mark on the slide, no chance, The difference with this model is that there is a plastic connector joining the throttle cable to the carb cable and oil pump cable? Any help greatly appreciated

Hey, I'm reading and following the forum for a while now, but never had anything to ask or add that would it be necessary to create an account, but now I'm here, officially :-) I'm German, but live in Tanzania for a while because of work. I bought my first yamaha (dt 230 lanza) here a little bit over a year ago, was totally happy with it, but then it got stolen from the front of my bedroom window, just carried away :-( Now I got a dt lanza again and always struggle a bit with her, first it was the lack of power, now it looks like the piston is stuck. Let's hope I can get it fixed Best regards Mike

Hi, I have a “08” Plate, Yamaha YBR125 bike which occasionally decides its going to play up! I will try to start it using the electric start & it fires up/turns over, but as soon as I put it into gear, the bike dies on me, & the battery warning light will flash for a few seconds. I will then try to re-start it by putting it back into neutral, followed by starting it by the electric start but again it fires up/turns over in neutral, but the second I put it into gear whether it be first gear or skipping directly to second gear the bikes dies on me. I have tried kick-starting it whilst its in gear but all I get is the flash of the battery light, but no firing…

Apparently I've been a member since 2010, but not been active in ages on account of my bike being on a bit of a back-burner... which might explain why it looks like I've not posted anything on here ever (was there some kind of clear-out or purge of threads whilst I was away?). So yeah, I'm Blam, I'm 32, and I'm an alcoholic from Essex. I've got a XVS650 V-Star. I think it's some kind of special 'Midnight' edition as there's a lot of stock-parts painted metallic black, so I've been systematically replacing, repainting, or covering the chrome with black to match it. I'll stick up pictures at some point. :-)

Hi, I've joined out of interest and desperation. I have a TRX850 which is a fantastic machine. However over the past few months it has become harder and harder to start and now coughs occasionally but doesn't come alive. Thoughts are - K&N filter I fitted in spring has adversely affected carburation. Choke is causing flooding, but no joy if starting without choke from a rest. Looking at some other posts, my worry is that valve clearance could be a problem - is that a common thing with TRXs? Is there someone in the North-West who knows about these things - any recommended workshops? Thanks, CS

Hi there all. I'm very new to the club and have possibly taken on a project too far. I've own bikes before but newer ones that it's not worth getting too hands on with (other than a cleaning rag!) I've now gone and got myself a 1979 XS 250. A definate project bike. It's a rolling chassis with engine, and 'box of bits'. The engine supposedly runs but need to find out for myself if that's true. Feeling a bit daunted and wondering where to start. Some friends reckon that servicing as I go is the way, where as others think I should just hook it all up and see if it starts. The whole lot only set me back £100 so it's no great shakes if (when)I screw something up. Any helpful h…
