For the Vintage Yamahas

Hello. Ive got a 77 xs 750 that I recently did a top end rebuild on. I also rebuilt the carbs. The main issue was a leak at the front right head gasket. So I replaced my rings, gaskets, nuts, studs, theres a whole big list of things thaat I did. That being said followed the clymers the whole way. Now I cant get my carbs right. Ive done a bench synch on em...Triple Mikuni B34's I believe....The air/fuel mixture screw is as described in manual 2.5 turns out. It just wants to crank and run to the sky now as for the RPMs. I will say that the apparatus inside of the middle carb was different than the other 2. The needle jet and retainer inside the slide/diaphram was different …

  2. Hello im new to the Yamaha, and actually never had a motorbike before, so of course i decided to buy a Yamaha XS500 from 77' without any knowledge. Anyways seems like the carbs arent adjusted or atleast the right one. The left exhaust is clear, and only has normal soot, no oil or gas residue. But the right exhaust tip is filled with residue and stuff, and when the bike runs the righr exhaust smokes a lot! What can i do to fix this, i have located the air screw and seems like my fuel screw is already fully tight which makes no sense since the bike runs? What can i do?

Hi all, returning member, been renovating g so long my membership ran out......so finally renovated my DT and she looks lovely (lockdown project, pics to follow) bought in field bike condition and am now at the final wiring stage on lights, ignition, indicators etc. She starts and runs fine. Looking at the wiring loom and the Haynes manual it appears to have 4 wires coming from the magneto and I have three! The one I am missing seems to be the one to recharge the battery. Are there different versions or is it likely over time this wire has snapped off? Trying to understand if some models were like this or if I have to take magneto off or even replace it? all hel…

Hi guys new to the forum with a very stubborn YR5. I've totally rebuilt the motor after buying the bike as a non runner. Rebore pistons crank all the ignition and charging system a new Motobatt battery plus the carbs ultrasonic cleaned and checked. The problem is when I go out for a run the bike starts and ticks over fine but two miles of so into the run the bike either packs in altogether or drops onto one cylinder first and then stops and won't restart. Checking straight away the bike has a good spark on both sides and the plugs are wet but won't start? I push the bike home and it still won't start but if I leave it overnight it starts and runs perfect until I go for a …

  5. Hello Lads, Im havinga a bit of an issue with my RS100 that i got last year. I restored it to "nearly" perfectly working order (left the patina on it) last year and drove 130 km without stopping and had no problems whatsoever. Last year i had to throw in a new Battery (old one was missing) and gave it a new ignition coil. It needed a new ignition coil because when the bike came up to operating temperature it was loosing power. Replacing the coil fixed the problem completely... until now. About a week ago i fired the Old Girl up and drove for about 3 km which it did fine. After the 3 km it started to loose power and the revs wouldn't go above 4000RPM. In fac…

Hello everyone, new member here from the US. I just got a 1978 XS500 up and running again that I purchased as a basket case several years ago. My issue is with the speed that the speedometer indicates at various RPM's. It seems to me (comparing to some of my other bikes) that it's reading slow. I have several mid-to late 70's/80's singles (both Yamaha & Honda) and geared the way I like them at 4,000 RPM they are all running in the 60 mph to 62 mph range. As it stands right now the XS500 is reading roughly 10 mph slower at 4000 rpm's. At 4000 rpm's it's just barley reading 55 mph. I am running the original OEM speedometer and drive. The front tire is a 110/…

I am building a 1977 xs750 as a project bike and I’m having electrical issues. Every time I try to get it to turn over the main fuse blows. I have inspected all the wiring from the headlight bucket to the wiring harness and i can’t find any shorts. I also used a multi meter in place of a battery and still had no luck. Does anyone have any idea what this issue might be or even how i can continue to troubleshoot? I’m at a loss.

Just purchased a really nice SRX 250 and am looking for info on this bike. Anybody know where one could find access to a shop manual? Any other owners out there? Anyone with a parts bike? I got to ride this thing around this past Tues and I'm hooked. It's as nimble as a bicycle. Power is what you would expect from a 250 single. It's enough to have a real blast in the turns but not enough to get an old geezer like me in a bunch of trouble. Dave

Just purchased a US import LS2 100. Beautiful bike, just missing history. I wondered if anyone could shed some light on production numbers and such of these 1972 models. Any info would be appreciated. Also, wondering if anyone knows this particular example. VIN: LS2005633 Thank you for your help in advance. best, Jack

Hi all, i have recently purchased a Frankenstein dt , thought it was a dt125lc (engine is anyway) but when checking the numbers I find that I can’t identify the year for certain. The frame appears to be a dt175mx but I get differing info for it’s year, and the engine I recognise as a dt125lc but again I cannot seem to accurately date it. I need to obtain a V5 and really need to know the ages involved. If the frame is 175mx then the engine will be changed for a more appropriate one, but would still be nice to know the engine age as well as frame if possible. frame number. 2k400612**. Last two numbers hidden for obvious reasons. engine number. 2Y50…

  14. The engine will turn when the start button is pressed. But will continue to turn until released and only then it will fire up. Anyone point me to where the problem may lie before I have a garage full of bits and still no solution 🤯 Any help appreciated.

After 8 weeks the DVLA have rejected my application for a V5 because I don't have dating evidence. Can anybody tell me where I might get this please? I'm told that evidence from a reliable source such as an owners club will be considered. Could somebody point me in the right direction please?

Having trouble sourcing some spoked wheels for my XS400 project and was wondering which other model/manufacturers wheels could be used instead? I have a '79 XS400 with mags and discs front and rear and was also considering changing to a drum rear brake (for purely aesthetic reasons). Is this conversion possible if I acquire the relevant parts? Thanks for any help you may provide. Caddy

Hello, I have recently completed a complete restoration of a XJ650H (Maxim). Tried to start it the other day for the first time and not a single hint of it trying to start. Checked and have spark. Did not see any indication of fuel on the plugs so off to the interI I went. Ended up removing the carbs and cleaned again, checked float height and found no anomalies. Reinstalled the carbs this time not connecting to the airbox. No dice on starting again not even a sputter. Now I was questioning myself do I have the correct plug wires going to the correct coils. So back to the internet. Found a conversation that cylinder 1and 4 are the left coil with the orange primary a…

Hi all: I'm a new member here, and I have a question: I live in a HOT part of the U.S....Phoenix, Arizona, where summer temps can hit 115 degrees. My '87 FZR1000 Genesis runs fairly hot already (this is with a brand-new radiator, new Engine Ice coolant, new thermostat and new fan switch) and I'm wondering if any of you have experience with installing an aftermarket oil cooler. My research so far has proven to be fruitless...can anyone out there help me? Thanks very much! Elimax

I was riding today, much better than Stay At Home, and my Right directional started flashing faster than normal. I assumed it was a burned out bulb, so when I got home I pull the lens off and checked pulled the bulb. The continuity was okay on both filaments, so I swapped in a different bulb and that didn't work either. So I got out my meter and I have NO power on the socket contact for the flasher filament. The Left side and the Right Rear are all working fine, it is just the Right Front flasher. So, before I start pulling things further apart, I figured I would ask if there is anything anyone thinks I should know ? I don't think it is the relay, as I think it drives b…
