My little old RXS 100 is in a bit of a state, my first one the 1985 one was red but then the i found that in several places only paint was keeping fuel from spilling ourt of the tank, so i replaced it with a blue one fromthe same guy who gave me the red one, so my red bike turned blue, but now, i have the bike the blue parts came off and thi sone now has the tatered red parts on it, but its in a sorry state, so what im wondering is are there any places to get replacement parts for older bikes, caus im planning to restore the one, and am in search of Tank, Exaust, and down pipe, foot pegs, Seat, and probably some wheels, now ofcourse thisd is my wish list and some …

  6. Hey every one, I recently got my first motorcycle. It is a 1980 Yamaha XS400SG with 14,000 miles on it. I have a good amount of auto repair know how but carberator work/ motorcycles are new to me. The bike is very hard to start and requires lots of charging and cranking over under full choke. Once it does start it is only running off the Right cylinder. The left cylinder will only start to fire with lots of associated backfiring after being driven around for about 2-10 minutes. Once the left cylinder starts to fire and finally gets hot the bike runs great. It will even start right back up if stopped. It should be noted that my bike has the electronic ig…

I have a Yamaha 1100 XS 1979 Classic. I need help? Sometimes theres a little spark out of the plugs and then sometimes theres not. Items I replaced so far is the following: Ignition Unit. Complete wiring harness. I also, tested the Coil wires for current.tested O.K. I tested the 4 distributor wires for current and I don't get any current from them. I was told from a shop that I won't get any current from the Distributor wires until it reached a suretin RPM. Is this true? Or do I need a oeum Meter? Can someone help me? Thanks.

Can someone tell me how if possible to test a Ignition Unit? (Ignition Unit is the Black box with two plugins one large 8-10 prong plugin & one small 4 prong plugin . location mounted under the seat) The large plug to the ignition unit I'm getting Power(Current). The small 4 prong plug I'm getting no power out of all 4 wires. The small 4 prong plug from the ignition Unit does it go to the distributor?( I call it a Distributor. it could be called a pickup coil, all I know is.,Is that it spinds and has two looks like electronic points Looks like Electronic Ignition Distributor). I bought a new wire harness and all the plugs seemed to match up with color cod…

Hello there, new to this forum today I've just bought a 1982 X reg XT250 with gold rims, black/silver tank and white plastic bits. Bought it from next doors son who's owned it for 21 years. It's taxed/mot'd but has no indicators as being 6v they were virtually invisible in bright light so he removed them and used hand signals. I'd like to convert it to 12v. I had an RXS 100 and early DT125LC a few years ago and the thought of 6v indicators is not appealing. Is there a way to convert the bike to 12v using later XT parts etc. Either that or I was thinking of wiring a seperate 12v indicator circuit fed from a small 12v battery that would need charging occasionally…

i made a crude sketch of my fuel lines a friend took a look and said it may be wrong i tried comparing it to a picture in my haynes manual in the manual you can see a line going directly from the petcock to the left carb but you cant see anything going to the right carb he asked my why there is a Y splitter and if there were originally 2 petcocks possibly on the original tank (as if my tank is not original... im not sure though) the fuel line for the left carb is pretty short and flows easily at a downward angle towards the inlet but the fuel line for the right carb come out of the other side of the splitter and actually runs at an upwards angle (agains…

I have just put my xs400 back together and the problem I thought I would have solved by cleaning the carb is still there. What is happening is that from idle to about 3500rpm to 4000rpm it has no power whats so ever and once it pass 4000rpm it is fine. None of the jets where plugged or damaged. The bike idles pretty well but I cannot figure this one out. Does anyone have any suggests? Thanks inadvance. Stu

Hi All, I'm a newbie who's thinking of buying a '78 XS650. I've heard several great things about these bikes, but the few I'm looking at have mag rims. I prefer spokes. I've heard rims are pretty specific for bikes, so does anyone know how hard it would be to switch over? Thanks.

Hi folks! I've found a nice old XS360 for sale, but it does need some work on it. Doing the work doesn't stress me but, am I going to be able to get the bits? And, if I can get them, will the price give me heart failure! I know it will need mufflers and pipes and a seat. I suspect it will also benefit from a rebore and top end overhaul, so getting oversized pistons, rings and gudgeon pins is likely. Add valve cotters, timing chain and gasket set to that list too. Anything specific I should watch out for with a 360? I expect it will also need new tyres soon. Any ideas on what suits it best? Best, IMHO, is that which sticks to the road like glue!

Heres the deal. Ive got a perfect 1982 Yamaha Maxim 650. Just had to replace the head unit bearings, due to this problem of a dented race, making the steering "center" itself. Trust me its a disconcerting feeling. Ive always wanted a little more braking power; so I thought I'd ask the guru's on here whether you know of anyone that has done a mod to the 650 to utilize a dual front brake system. I know the Seca has dual front brakes. Can the shocks from the Seca be swapped out to the Maxim??? Maybe the 750 Maxim/Seca will work. Can you just swap the shocks out, or do you have to do the entire triple tree? I bought this Maxim new in 1983 and watched them put it tog…
