Sometimes it will idle and then slowly die. Othertimes, it won't idle at all and I have to keep the throttle open, just a bit. I have to leave the choke open as well (idle jet prob?!). The Idle adjustment screw on the bottom of the carbs doesn't seem to help much in maintaining any kind of idle, let alone one at 1200rpm. Any suggestions? Thanks, -John PS - I am a noobie, but quick and willing to learn.

hey everyone, i just found this site! i have several early 70's enduros. i just finished a total restoration on a 72' dt 250. but i can't get the dang thing to run for crap. new top end, new clutch, new points, and set timing. rebuilt carb, good clean fuel source.........but it won't hardly get outta its own way. starts and idles nicely, but under a load it craps out, no power, and misses when gaining rpm's. any ideas? could the original exhaust pipe be plugged? could the timing be off even though it starts and idles nicely? after it warms up, it starts pinging real loud and seems to get hot pretty quickly.....anyway, i'm just frustrated, the bike is beautiful, but …

Yesterday my kickstart worked just fine. Today you can not feel the gears engage. When you attempt to kick start it goes right to the floor with no resistance. I dont understand what this means. Anyone? Thanks.

hi, i have one thing left to fix on my yb100 to get it through the mot, and it is proving to be a massive pain. the rear brake pedal does not return after it is pressed down, and this means that the brake light stays on, automatic MOT fail....doh! unfortunately, there is nothing in the haynes manual about the correct set up for the brake pedal/switch system, and i am not convinced that the springs and parts were attached as they should be, unfortunately i have no frame of reference. i would be hugely grateful and forever in the debt of anyone who could take a couple of snaps of the mechanism on their bike and post them on here, alternatively message me and i could…

I can start the bike without a problem. The thing of it is, the throttle sometimes has no effect. Sometimes the RPMs go up and some times they don't move at all. I noticed the right side is running leaner that the left just by how fast it heats up. The Carburetor boots are cracked and I’ve ordered new ones. The slides and cable move. But with no effect on RPMS. It seems to idle fine. So I’m thinking carburetor rebuilds and new carburetor boots should remedy the situation. Anyone else run into this before?

I just purchased an 1977 xs400 for $75. Over all it is in good shape, except the carbs. The last time it was on the road was in 2003. The owner pulled off the carbs and put them on the shelf until now. The carbs are frozen, I cant get the butterfly valves lose. I have been looking for a new set of carbs, but all I can find are carbs for the xs650's. Does any one know if these will work on a 400? Also I would like if possible to switch from CV carbs to slide carbs. Does anyone know if the RD carbs will fit?

Has anyone ever seen a fork seal that was virtually impossible to remove? I tried heating and being careful, but was left with nothing but bits of rubber seal left over in the fork lowers. At this point I don't believe that I have any other option other than replacing the entire lower as the seal is tattered and broken into bits, and the area where the seal seats isn't in like new condition anymore. Has anyone had a similar experience and been able to "recondition" the area surrounding the seals? Just tell me I'm not crazy and that some seals won't come out in one whole piece. ... Also, does anyone know if xs650 lowers will work on my 1978 xs400 2e?

Does anyone have the resistance specifications for a lighting coil on a 1987 Yamaha BW350T? If you have the specs for the charging coil as well, that would really help thanks!

Heres a picture the newest member of the fleet. Now from what I can tell, its nothing more than a standard '77 xs400. Although, more than one person has told me that its "rare" and that I shouldn't continue the process of cutting it into a cafe bike. So before I do anything tragic, Does anyone know anything in particular that might make this bike, "special"? Thanks! -Pat

I just bought a RD350 and was wondering if some one has the measurements for one? I need to drive 1300 miles both ways to get it and I would rather not tow a trailer. I have a Chevy Suburban but would like to double check to make sure it will fit. If anyone has the dimensions of the bike I would really appreciate it. Thank you, h2o
