  2. Hey all new here and could use some help. I'm restoring a 69 Enduro it was my moms bike, hasn't been ran since 80 or 81 (thats the years on the last reg sticker). Some back ground on it after she stoped riding, it was stored in my grand father's garage. When he died in 96 my bro in law took it to his grand father's and stuck it in his barn till 4/9/06. My bro in law tried to mess with it but didn't do much to it he got a battery not sure it was even the right one. When I got it I hooked a jumper box to it and had lights and the electric start worked but wasn't getting any spark. So I messed with it till i killed my jumper box then I hooked a charger to it and i think …

Anyone know where to find information on the oldest enduros. I would like a product code list for these bikes or model list to identify the bikes. Also would like to know the colors of the earliest enduros up to 1971.

Trying to find some help. In the process of restoring a 1977 DT400. I was "told" the color of the bike was cinnamon. But I can't find any help from the local dealer as far as any of the paint colors for that year. Does anyone know? The bike is currently cinnamon aka brown. Thanks!

  5. Started by Nick Frost,

I'm sure it's been covered before, sorry. Can anyone tell me, definitively, whether my 1978 XS250P (frame cide 1U5) is OK for unleaded, or should I be using an additive?

  6. Started by Nick Frost,

Hi to everybody. My first posting here. I've recently got an XS250, 1978-ish, I think. It starts OK, idles at 1000-ish rpm for a little while, and then decides to idle at 4,000 or 5,000 rpm! Clearly a carburetion problem (?), but I'm new to motorcycles and am not sure where to start. I have the Haynes manual and the bike has what the book refers to as the "lever choke type" carburettor (fig 2.1, p60). At least I can get as far as confirming that this is not as simple as needing throttle cable adjustment - the throttle control arm is resting against the end-stop. A friend said that the mixture may be wrong, eg. running too lean, and suggested that I adjust the pil…

Hey all... JUST registered with the site. I have a 1976 DT400 that I know next to nothing about, and would like to pick some brains if I may. 1) Has anyone here ever owned one, and could lend advice? 2)If so, have you ever converted the engine to premix by using a pump block off plate? Any issues with under-oiling in this situation? 3)Can the compression release unit be safely removed, and blocked? I have NO experience with compression releases, all I know is that they are typically used to make starting the bike easier. 4)Have you ever used a different model cylinder (ie: MX, or YZ 400 models)? 5) What would you recommend to make the bike more spirited, and st…

From the general shape, it is obviously a 60's Yamaha. From the 350 marker, and a marker that reads "oil injection", I think it is a YDS3. I recall that those were imported here, but don't ever recall seeing one. Any other ideas?

Now the keeper of the garage has said yes he's insisting that I get genned up before I buy. Do I remember rightly... RD500's where notorious for potential crank problems (something to do with oil seals??) Where RZ's european imports and did the RZV? have aluminum frames. Did the RG500 have gearbox problems? If you can answer these or add any other info I would be greatful. I tried Stan Stephens but he was his usual unhelpful self!! thanx.

Hi, I have just got down to stripping my seat for powder coating, and apart from a bit of rust a few of the prongs that grip through the seat cover are missing. I have already trawled the net for answers, so you lot are my best and last hope As i see it I have 3 options 1) replacing the prongs (and with what?) 2) ignoring that part of the seat, and let it flop (OOO Missus!!) 3) glue that part of the seat, bearing in mind it will be powder coated!! ( and what glue?) I am using a new original Yam seat cover, so I am a little anxious to get it right first time Of the original prongs (due to possible metal fatigue) is it best first to heat …

Just wanted to say hey to everyone. I jst recently got an 86 FZ600. It is my first sport bike, before I had cruisers. Here she is. I made her a date with the local moto guru for tuning and the local body shop guy for paint and bodywork. I will post some progress pics of everything as it goes. Here we are before I did anything but get it started from storage. Nice bike, sounds like a pack of angry hornets though. heh I gues I will get used to that!

Hello everybody, In my family we run a 1981 Yamaha XJ550 (black with the orange pin striping)which we have owned since 1989 and used since as everyday transport all year round (winter and summer). It has now reached roughly 90,000 miles without an engine rebuild as yet (but read more of later) and still on original clutch/drivetrain. Naturally during our time of ownership it has had a few replacement exhausts (thanks to all that lovely corrosive salt they put on the roads in the winter in the UK ), we've had to do a partial re-wire (original fuse box etc. carroded to bits), many tyres, many fork seals and many chain and sprocket kits plus many, many regular oil an…

  20. Started by Eric Paulsen,

Hello out there. I recently rescued an old 250 Enduro and am curious as to what year it is and if I wasted my time hauling it home or if there is activity out there. I know next to nothing about motorcycles, but know this one was pretty neat when I was a lot younger. The number stamped in the frame is DT1F-161889 (the last three numbers could be .....339?!?). It kicks over nicely and I was told it was running when last parked. What year would it be and would there be interest in it out there? I have no long term plans for it. Thanks for the help.
