For the Vintage Yamahas

Can someone point me to a resource for replacement gas tank emblems? I have an 82 XJ550 and one of the emblems is broke while the other is pretty worn out. Would love to replace them with just about anything! Thanks in advance.

Any one know if the pistons for the YL1 100cc twinjet are the same as those for the LS2 100cc twin cylinder? Or, where can I find the motor spec's for both bikes?

Hello all, I just became the new owner of a 77 XS500. It's been stored for close to 20 yrs and needs tuned up. I've cleared out the gas tank and petcocks and carbs and changed the plugs. It runs pretty good but for good measure I'm going to replace the points/condenser. I don't have a service manual right now and was wondering if anyone can give specs on what the points should be set at. Thanks in advance. Ean

Hi, Noobie here with an amazing find: a 1984 FJ1100 with 105.7 miles. I've been searching the internet all day and can find no information on what it's worth. The Barber Museum suggested Kelley Blue Book. Strangely enough the Blue Book didn't have a class for factory new 24 year old motorcycles. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me. I'd appreciate anything, thanks for your time.

hello everyone, i just brought my bike home yesterday. bought it from the original owner, my dad. the bike is in near mint condition. it's only got 27k miles on it, but looks like its only got 27 miles on it. all the original paint and chrome looks brand new, the seat is in perfect condition. the only non stock parts on the bike are the exhaust (3-1), the sissy bar, and the oil cooler. i have the original rear grab bar, along with the oil bypass line if i ever decided to run without the cooler. i also have the original tool bag, owners manual, along with an O.E. replacement oil filter, and a Clymer manual for the bike. right now the bike is non running, as i…

Hi Hope someone can help me with some ideas. I have a 1989 YB100 purchased from ebay and lovingly restored over the last 2 years including new bearings oil seals etc. It has been running reasonably well until about a week ago, when it started 'breaking' spark plugs - a new plug would run for only a few miles and die - ie weak or now spark. The colour of the plug was dark grey/black but not oily suggesting a rich mixture. I adjusted the carb and oil pump to try and acheive a leaner mixture - but no success, and today on a ride out it went through 3 plugs and finally died completely and had to be trailered home! An initial strip down indicated damage to the …

Hey all! I recently received a 1975 XS500B from my Dad. It's in really good shape with new tires, chain, paint job, replaced fuel tank, plugs, oil, seat, grips, and mirrors and it's my first motorcycle. I do have some questions because I have not wanted to fork out $60 for a owner's manual from Ebay. I hope you guys can help me out. The bike runs pretty good and just seems a little cold-blooded. I have treated the fuel with some "Sea foam" because he didn't drive it after he had the engine worked on. Here are my questions: 1. Is the choke off or on when the lever is down? It seems to be Choke "ON" when in the down position. 2. What is the little adjustable screw for …

Hey everyone, I just bought my first motorcycle yesterday. Its a 1980 xs400 special-II. I bought it from a really nice older guy on craigslist like ten minutes after he listed it. He has a bunch of scooters and a friend of his traded him this bike for one of his parts scooters. He never rides it and needs room in the garage so he gave it to me for the pricely sum of 100 bucks. Even helped me load it into the back of my truck. It has no rust, 11,000 miles, everything works, no dents. I havent ridden it yet (I've never actually ridden a real motorcycle) but he started it up no problem and rode it around the block when I was there. The bike has no title, but apparently my fr…

hello boys new to the forums but hoping i can get some answers here. I have been looking for a carb rebuild kit for this bike for about a month now and cant seem to find one. I wanted to install new needle valves but cant find them anywhere. Found some for the 650 that look almost identical but am not sure they would work. Were these cv carbs used on a lot of the xs bikes through the 70 and if so are some of the internals the same with the exception of the jets of course. Also how hard would it be to install the starter motor since this model didnt come with one? i rebuilt the whole thing and it is running but off the line it is a bit rough. idles fine and once on the ga…

Hey Guys, I'm resotoring a 1980 XS850 Midnight Special. However, I'm having problems finding spare parts in the UK (it's an american import). Are there any well known contact in the UK for import parts or is my only hope using a worldwide search on eBay? Cheers Mike
