Honestly, I don't get this. The fuel tank is 3/4 full. If I run the bike the fuel valve "on", it bogs sometimes and generally seems to struggle to get fuel, especially at low rpms. But when I run it on "reserve", it runs well. Could it be just some crap in the valve, or can there be a more profound problem somewhere?

Hi Guys, I am currently restoring a 350B which can be seen here 350B restoration The 350B restoration has been waiting for an 'all new' electronic ignition system, being developed by Electrix. Its an 'all singing and dancing' system that not only replaces the points plate but also the coils and everything in between !!! Well Electrix say its ready and currently running on an LC What the guys at Electrix want is to borrow a running 250/350 A/B for a weekend, so they can do a final fitting test. Unfortunatly the 350B restoration is not ready to run yet, so it cant be used. They are based around Oxford, anyone prepared to lend them your bike for a…

found this today when I was just cruizing the web. It is a fairly good and straight forward resource for a first time owner, covering all the basics of maintaining and servicing a cycle. http://www.scribd.com/doc/9379130/Maintaining-Motorcycles

Just bought the bike on craigslist about a week ago... Previous owner had claimed it was cold blooded, and it did take a while to start when I showed up to pick it up (he jump started it with his truck, no battery), but after topping off the old battery it came with and giving it a day on a trickle charger, it starts right up. Cold in my garage it took about half a second on the electric start to fire up and settle down to a smooth idle. I'm waiting on a Haynes manual still, so can't check this myself. First time I ran the bike it sounded kind of scratchy when running, around the top end of the engine. Oil light came on right when I shut the engine off and haven'…

I'm a complete newbie I recently got my motorcycle license and I have been given an 1982 xs400 maxim. Supposedly it runs good just needed a carb. Ok no problem I find a carburetor on ebay, but I cannot find a replacement manifold anywhere. All that I have is the right one. I tried using one from an xs650 that I found on ebay but it will not fit. Is there anywhere I can find this part? I'm on the verge of just buying a bike and tossing this one.

Hello all! My name is Tom from Buffalo, NY....I am the proud owner of a 1980 XS 400 Special, with just 4500 miles on the clock. I found theis forum on a Google search, and have so far found it to be quite interesting and informative...I'm looking forward to hanging out here and learning much about this bike form all of you! My first dilemma: the previous owner hacked up the carbs pretty badly. It appears that he tried to do some sort of work to the floats, and broke the support that holds it. So...I now have a useless carb. My question is: can I replace the carbs with units from another model, or is this unit unique to this model? Aside from needing a set …

Hi all, Ive got a 1980 xs650 special brought from the States last year. Its been with Paul at his garage (Hondatech) on the Wirral while he worked his magic and its now running well, all perished bits replaced, new tyres and bits replaced that were robbed while it waited for export (petcock and fuel cap) Since we put petrol in it the tank has erupted in small blisters which grew and on bursting one and scraping back the paint a pinhole was found which indicates the inside is rotted. I now need a tank to finish the job and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about what could be used ie xs750 850 etc whether they would need altering to fit or can be put strai…

I am trying to rebuild a master cylinder off of a 1984 XJ600. The problem is I don't have the old one to follow and all of the images I can find do not provide a clear view of the order to rebuild. My major probelm is that I have two seals that are different and can't tell which goes first. The kit contains 1 seal with divets in the outer edge (I think to let air pass by when expanding) 1 smooth seal 1 washer 1 plunger 1 divider that appear to seperate the spring from a seal 1 clip 1 spring 1 cover Any help would be most appreciated.

Having a look for some replacement 32mm carbs, was searching for Mikuni VM 32's and came across a forum about a blokes CB 350, people are suggesting swapping his 32's for some 30's or 34's. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to carburettors; is it possible to use different sized carbs than what is stock? XS's use BS 32's which are as rare as hen's teeth, but is it possible to use BS 34's or say, a pair of VM 32's? Cheers

I got my 78 XS400 this winter and spent some time cleaning it up. Cleaning carbs etc. I'm driving it to work and loving it. What I don't love is my duck tape seat. Does anyone know of a source for a replacement seat cover. My bike looks just like the one in this picture (http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/yamaha_xs_400_1978.php)

Hello everyone, I'm brand new on here. Just wondering if I can get some help from the pros. I have a 1978 Yamaha yb100. It appears almost brand new(1000 orig kms). It runs perfect. The only problem I have is electrical. My signals will not flash. when I kickstart the bike, the headlight comes on. when I switch on my turn signal, the headlight dims quite a bit. also the signals take a little while to come on, and when they do, they wont flash. also, the(running) tail light seems to be brighter than the brake light when the pedal is pressed on. I've tried charging the battery, buying a new flasher relay, checking the bulbs, and everyhting seems exactly as it should be. ANY …

Hey all, Just the other day (Saturday) I got my first bike. My 81 Yamaha virago 750. The man who delivered it to me started it twice with no effort. After he left, I was able to start it 2 or 3 times with relative ease, but the last time I ran it, it was hard to start, then it would stall on take off and I haven't been able to start it since. I suspect that it was flooded. I have removed the plugs and dried them twice. (I should probably also note that they were black.) Left the cylinders open for over an hour to dry out and I get no improvement. I can tell that it wants to start, it turns over and the exhaust putts a little bit but no go. I think by this point t…
