Hey guys new memeber here, I do some posting on other Yamaha forums r6messagenet and r1-forums with some of my other toys. I just picked up a cherry 1986 Yamaha Radian 600! I love the bike, it is a blast to ride and is in perfect condition with only 26k miles on it, not bad for a 23 year old bike. I have rode and owned many motorcycle in my riding career espcially since I have been a salesman at the local Yamaha dealership for the past 10 years. Something about this bike made it more enjoyable than any other bike I have ever rode and put the biggest smile on my face. I have been looking for this bike for about a year now and it fell into my lap! Well to the point. I…

I've had this issue on and off for a few weeks. When i go to start the bike, turn the petcocks on, ignition on, kick it over, the bike resists starting, but also the right carb starts to drain fuel. Its a decent stream of fuel, not sure where exactly it is coming out, as I've seen it from both the engine and air filter side. I've taken the carbs apart a few times to try and find a problem, and nothing looks wrong. Any ideas what might be wrong? When it doesn't start doing this the bike is pretty good about starting in 1 or 2 kicks. thanks

G'day guys, Want to give my XS 250 better brakes up the front, are 650 brakes compatible (in terms of mounting bolts etc) with 250/400 wheels? Or am I better off going for something else. Cheers

Hi all! Carbs seem to be an issue on this bike looking back through the threads a bit. My bike starts right up, has new intake boots, carbs cleaned a few times, new stock filters, but it just is not right. Engine revs, but is really slow coming back down. The throttle cable is working, and It seems like the carbs follow without delay. But it still takes it's time coming back down on the rpm's. I put 6 miles on it yesterday, and as the bike got warmer, the idle speed wanted to climb up to around 3000. But bring the bike to a halt with the clutch in, and it would drop back down to 1000. Anyone have a clue what causes this? Or how to fix it? Thank you! Fra…

Finally got my tail trunk, got it painted to match the rest of the bike and tupperware and mounted on the bike. So as promised when I posted my last pictures of my 1100, here are the latest shots of it all dressed up and ready to rumble. Right Side View Rear View (what most other riders see ) Left Side View Front View (Normally seen only by oncoming traffic ) I tried to get a colour as close to the original factory colour as I could, even though I can't yet duplicate the two tone paint on the tank. Hopefully I'll be using my new air compressor and paint gun this winter to do a repaint with the two tone colour like factory and rep…

Is there any reason why the wheels and tires off a 1982 YAMAHA MAXIM 400 (F:19" and R:16") wouldn't fit my 81 xs400 Special, axle, spacers, rear sprocket and all? And if so would MY rear brake hub fit it's drum? I'm new to the whole interchanging of parts stuff! Thanks

Wed. 10 June: THANKS TO ALL WHO CONTACTED ME! I GOT A TERRIFIC AS1C, STILL MOT'd and TAXED, FOR WELL UNDER £1700. NOW I JUST NEED THE HIGHER HANDLEBARS (it already has the upswept exhaust) ! ARE THE HIGHER HANDLEBARS EASILY FOUND, DOES ANYONE HAVE SOME FOR SALE? Thanks again to all! Debb *************************** hi again, Everyone! I have seen a few AS1's about, including a gorgeous one, running well and looks really nice, in the USA. However, by the time I buy it and get it over here, it would cost me about £2300, and I don't think they're worth that much yet. Am I correct? I have heard I should be able to get a really nice one here in the UK…

Hey all, I'm new here, I've chopped and bobbed a few Honda cb's in the past and have decided to do my first xs bobber. It is currently living life as a 1981 xs400 Special and soon to be chopped. I'm relatively new to Yamaha's so I will surely have many inquiries. Firstly, does anyone know who may make a hardtail bobber style frame for an xs400? I've found a few for the more common xs650, but they're all around $1000! Any references would be great! Thanks!

78 xs400. What kind of sprocket combo can I use to get my bike up to higher highway speeds and not sacrafice to much of the low end? I would like to get it up to 90 to 100....enough so im able to pass traffic without redlining it. I have stock set up (16/39) and 60 is about all I can squeeze.

Sorry to keep bugging everyone but this is one that is annoying me nearly as much as the electrical problem we were having. When we bought the bike it came without the centre stand or rear brake pedal. We managed to get hold of them and fitted them no problem, so we thought. The problem is the main centre stand seems to be going too far forward when putting the bike on it and the only way at the moment we can make it useable is to stand the bike with the stand on a piece of timber. This works but bot practical for MOT or traveling purposes. I have scoured the net and found a few parts schematics for models other than the SR250SE and found something called the st…

So, I know a lot of this has been posted in various threads but I want to try and collect it all so I make sure I do this right. I put clubman's on and I like the sit. However, it feels like they might be vibrating more. Any suggestions? Heavier weights in the bar? Carbs - the last place I was at with these: I was adjusting the mixture screws (idle or fuel? I think I've seen it called both?? Anyways, mix screw on engine side, top of carbs). Well, I loosened one to much and I can't find it. I ordered a new one from mikexs. I also ordered 145 and 147.5 jets; as well as larger pilots just in case. Why bigger jets? Well, I want to go to pods so I can try and get rid …

Is it the headlight relay or a turn signal flasher? My turn signal button is busted up anyways, and I don't care about them. I just want my headlight back. This square relay is clicking loudly whenever I turn on the ignition switch, plus my headlight isn't working. I don't know if these are related, for certain. I tried cleaning it out and lightly bending it inside, and it was no help. Can I replace it with a generic relay from Autozone, maybe? Genuine parts look expensive.... Thanks!

Here's a funny one. My XS400 has been misbehaving lately. It will start but dies the second I release the starter button. If I hold the button in, it will rev happily (but I don't like doing that too much). The scary thing is, it only started doing this after I replaced a few things, specifically the LH switch cluster and some wider bars. Now, none of the switches on there have anything in connection with the ignition, but I may have disturbed something in the headlight. So, I've checked the supply to the ignition box, which is fine, and its earth connection too. I've even tried wiring directly from the fuse to the ignition, just to bypass the killswitch and ignition…
