hi guys i have a problem with my dt changing from 1st to 2nd. it started yesterday after using the bike for some enduro riding, i rode from 10am to 3:30pm with regular cool down breaks. i will say that most of the time i was in first gear with fairly high revs. well now the bike goes into first easily but then struggles into 2nd and is then fine throughout all the gears. is it possible to damage a gearbox from riding in 1st for a long time? any advice will be appreciated

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site. Hopefully someone can reply and give me an idea of what's going on, any help is appreciated. So I'll start from the start. I bought the 2001 dt 125 and rode it home (about 50 miles) on dual carriage ways and a roads and everything was fine, really pleased with my new purchase. About a month later I noticed water dripping from the coolant expansion overflow pipe from the frame. I rode it the next day to work and it seemed to get really hot. When I finished work I thought I'd top up the radiator only to find that it took nearly 500ml of water! Soon after that the water in the expansion tank started boiling and in the end managed to …

Hey guys, Few months back I picked up a (I think 75ish) Yamaha DT250, pretty rough, but only $200. Looks like it has had the crap butchered out of it. No electrics left, no injector oil tank, but, it had compression and was otherwise mostly complete. Someone had put on a plastic gas tank. Cleaned it up a bit, made up some pre-mix (About 35:1). Didn't have any spark. Pulled off the flywheel and found some mud stuck between the points. They're pretty pitted/worn, I will replace them, but in the mean time, cleaned them up, pulled the plug and grounded it, and ended up with ok spark. ANyways, long story short got it running, it will rev up and will get through the …

hi everyone I restored a yamaha gt80 and I've heard people say they're not worth anything. but I've looked on kijiji and eBay and I found 8 of them for sale (in all of canada) and 1 complete bike in terrible condition on eBay for 999.99$ (totally ridiculous) but how can these bikes be so invaluable if they're so rare?

i have an 02 DT125r (JYADE031) which is absolutely bog standard except i have changed just the end can to an athena end can(rest of the exhaust is standard),it was mentioned to me that i would need to increase the main jet in the carb to compensate for the freer flow that the new end can has given the engine so after reading some of the stuff on this forum and doing some checking on the yamaha spares website, would i be right in thinking that i need to increase the main jet size in my carb from 240 to 260 and do i need to change the pilot jet to something other than 25, the carb that is fitted a flat sided carb. i'm not interested in my dt doing 100mph nor do i want it to…

I just rebuilt my xt350. It had melted the piston partially. Everything else looks good. I got the new piston and bored the cylinder out. I rebuilt it today and tried to start it. No luck. Tested compression and maxed out at 60 psi. Anybody have any ideas? My buddies think maybe it's got a stuck valve or the timing is off. We did our best to get the timing lined up but it seemed to be stretched about a half tooth off so we couldn't get it perfectly lined up on top dead center. We went with a half tooth advanced. Anybody have any ideas on this? Thanks

First bike. Yamaha xt350 97. If ridden the bike for probably 400kms now. There always seems to be n little oil in the barge plate at the bottom, so Im worried that I might end up riding it without oil or to low of a level and do damage to the engine. Is the bit of oil in the barge plate normal? How often do I need to top up oil? How much? Is there a dipstick like in a car? Thanks

Hello chaps. Just wondering if anyone knows if late model disc brakes from a DT175 (2001 onwards in NZ, Aus, SA) will fit on older models? Specifically a 1980 version. Will I need to transplant the entire wheel as well? Will the forks fit? Thanks!

hello, i bought a ty250 that had its Needle Valve assembly destroyed by bad gas, i have searched high and low for the part and cannot find it. I would buy a new carb for it but i dont have $200+ to spend on a new carb for that year. So i was wondering will a 76/81 dt175 carb work on it? or any other cheaper carb?

I am having an intermittent problem with my 175 MX. It will not run smoothly above 1500 RPM right up to 5000 RPM. Once it reaches 5000 RPM everything is fine. It will also not idle. It sounds like it is suffering from fuel starvation. It might do this for 20 or 30 miles and then it will revert back to running absolutely fine. The carb has been completely stripped and cleaned around half a dozen times (including the tiny hole in the float bowl) . The CDI side crankshaft oil seal has been replaced and I have tried a couple of new plugs. The little oil ring around the nozzle/main jet is worn. Could this be the problem or could it be something to do with the electrics? An…

Hi Guys, I have been reading on and off in the forums since we snatched up a 1981 DT175 about three weeks ago. We have since gotten busy and fixed it up for my significant other as her first bike. Last weekend I wanted to clean out the autolube system and when I removed the cover for the pump I was greeted by an oily mess, the whole think was full of 2 smoke oil. Now one would think thats not normal, a hose goes in the pump from the reservoir aka inlet and one goes out aka outlet. Both are connected properly. Anyone got any hints? I cleaned everything up and left the cover off, doesnt seem like anything is leaking (right now). I have serveral bikes,…
