I bought another XT500 about 2 months ago and have been adding bits ai had laying around. I did buy some new plastics , decals and a tank as well as other stuff, stands me a £1450 ish. Its took some long hard days but it actually pulls well, plan is to just run it as is and maybe restore maybe when i get bored. Before A few more small jobs to do like adding the bash plate once the dents have been removed. TTB

Hi All. Could use a bit of advice with my 2002 DT 175. It had a partial seizure recently and I had it re-bored and installed new piston and rings/ gaskets etc.. It started first time from the repair and I have done maybe 300kms (200miles) on her since. Last week she simply refused to kick start. I had started her normally that morning. She started second or third kick. I then rode her with no problems for about 30 kms and stopped at a friends place for a few hours. Came out and it would not kick start. Checked plug. Seemed to be running rich. Plug wet and black, but she did did spark. I eventually push started her with help from friend. Thick grey smoke came out o…

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum, but not completely new to motorcycling, however I have some questions to ask. I have a 2005 yamaha DT 125 RE, in relatively good condition, however there are a few things that I would like to fix: 1. I have a full DEP system, and I want to find out what main jet I am running on my carb, can i just open it up and look and put it back together without having to buy new gaskets etc? the reason for this is - if it is a 210, I would like to up-jet to 240 to see a top speed around that magic 80 number rather than the current 72, and I'm generally worried it might be running lean after reading many horror stories about after ma…

hello everybody, So ive been doing some cleaning up and painting and what not on my bike getting it all ready for this 'amazing' summer that we're meant to be having.. i've purchased some new handguards too just to try and make it look a little abit more agressive which i think they would do, but in order for me to fit them i really need some shortened levers for it. Does anybody have any idea where i could get any from to fit my bike? "/ i've had a shop around and i cant seem to find any anywhere Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you

alright guys.. had a bit of a mission doing some paint work on my DT getting it ready for when the sun decides to show its face, anyways.. painted my forks and when I went to put my wheel back on just slightly nipped the 2 bolts that hold the spindle and snap! it broke the bracket that the spindle goes through at the bottom of the fork. Does anybody know where I could get some second hand forks from other than ebay? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.. Thankyou

I have a couple questions. 1. Where can I get them from ? 2. What tyres ? The bike spends most its life off road. So I was thinking just big knobleys. They have to be road legal and I dont want to be changing them every couple month's so need to be hard for the daily ride to work . Cheers for the help

My name is Jake and I am new to motorcycles. I own a farm and have worked on many tractors, chainsaws, dump truck, etc. but liquid cooled two strokes are new. Ok, so in laws have a scrap collecting business. Yesterday I was rummaging around and found what is left of a DT 125. I am not exactly sure of the year and info on finding that would be helpful. I got it out of the scrap heap and began looking it over. It is missing the seat, rear fender, and some other odds and ends like blinkers and tail light. Mechanically it seemed intact. I kicked on the kick lever and the engine rotated about 1/2 a revolution and stopped. I removed the spark plug to examine piston a…

I've found a couple wiring diagrams online, along with they one in my owners manual and i can't find anything on the white wire coming from the magneto/fly wheel. does anybody know where this wire belongs?? Its a 1970 Rt1-360 coming from magneto flywheel i see 2 black wires, green, green/red, yellow and then white one..? one black wire to coil, the other to the key switch, green and yellow to the rectifier at key switch(unless one is already D/C and could go to the taillight??)(is there a diode or resistor between that??) green/red is for the night time circuit so i dont think i have to use that wire. please correct me if im wrong. Im just trying to wire in a 6 volt h…

Hi all, I am planning on buying a wr450 and would just like as much advice as I can get on them before I buy one. I have a couple of specific questions but in addition to that any information would be welcomed: How long do the engines last for if properley serviced How often do you have to service them Is there a particular model and year to avoid or aim for Are there any particular things to look at when viewing to buy Does the overall design change after a certain year What are the pros and cons of the wr450 Would really appreciate any advice, I am planning on riding on road and green laning. Many Thanks Burge.

Hello All, So I just got a DT 175 that has not been running for a year or two. When I got a hold of it the tank was very rusted so I cleaned and re-lined it. I put a new Carb on it. I have checked the Ignition coil and it passed. I found that I am not getting any power to the coil when kick starting it. I checked the charge and pulsar coils to factory specs. They were low ( around 360 when it called for 410) but it would seem I would get some spark from it. I was wondering any other tests I could do. I was thinking that perhaps the CDI unit has gone out. The other issue is that when I pulled the magnet housing off the crank shaft the woodruff key had sheered. Now …

Got the bike on the road last night after a week of changing parts painting ect. I didnt know what to expect tbh but god its so fun haha its definitely not under powered which I was worried about. Will sit at 55 happily. Took it up the woods for a little bit and performs so well, its abit weird getting used to the tyres which to me look like they are just off road but arnt that bad on the road if im honest. Have had abit of a wobble a couple times around tight bends but all good fun. I also like the £6.81 to fill the tank up. Which Is alot less then my car (£86 high octane about 200miles a tank) Really pleased with it glad to be back on a bike.

Has anyone got a picture of a rear brake in bites ? I can get the bit that holds the pads in to move up and down about 3mm but for some reason it wont slide off so I can get the the dragging piston. I have taken the bolt from the one slider but theres not a bolt the other side. Just wanted to check before the hammer comes out cheers

Hi, I recently had a crash on my bike a couple months ago, nothing too serious just went into side of a car that wasn't paying much attention. The bike has been standing a couple months also as not being able to afford to insure the bike. I have been starting the bike up every couple of days over the winter to make sure the bike gets warm. Leave it for about 10-15 mins each time. I have took the bike out today, done about 20-25 miles on the bike. It is blowing a lot of smoke out exhaust and has a lot of black botches on the back of the reg plate and dripping down under exhaust. I have dropped the oil and changed it recently before i was going to ride the bike. Now the bik…

Hi, I've got a DT 175 mx 1979, my woes are detailed elsewhere on the forum namely a holed piston. I'm really struggling with fixing this and got to thinking whether it appears worth all the hassle and maybe breaking it would realise more money than repairing it? As I see it the value of the parts is approx Frame and engine, with v5,matching numbers but engine in bits -£100 Wheels, brand new rims, spokes and tyres -£60 Seat, new cover fitted-£30 Forks -£30 Tank, resprayed with new decals and lacquered- £50 Side panels, front mud guard, rear mud guard, repainted, lacquered, £40 Clocks £30 Lights, horn £30 Handlebars £10 And that's that! Not even £400, so repair it…
