Gridlock coming to work again yesterday due to a fatal accident on the main road to Falmouth involving a bike rider but little did I know how involved we were. A deck hand of ours, working on an on-call basis, was making his way to Falmouth at 05:30 yesterday morning in drizzely & dark conditions to crew one of our boats. When he came to a blind corner he was faced with a young 30 y/o female biker sliding towards him on the deck and into his path. She must have fallen off her 125-bike due to leaves or the ridiculous amounts of diesel on the roads these days. Regretfully he was unable to avoid her and crashed himself after trying. The guy is pretty shook u…

Massive warning in the workshop manual section for the rear shock and remote reservoir saying must not sepertate from one another. Risk of accident etc But why? Its not built on it, Just linked from rear shock to side of head via a banjo ended pipe. Its ment to be gas filled and under 120psi Problem is that the end with the valve in has failed ie valve snapped of in my hand so now has a bolt in. No gas came out when it snapped either but i am sure thats my jack hammer death bounce swingarm is about.. took i while but gas leaked out with use etc. Why cant i just buy a new remote reservoir ? or am i missing the point here and even with a de presurised unit t…

HI I went to start my xj600 this morning after being away for a month. Absolutely no juice from the battery. I put it on charge and very quickly the charger read full. I replaced it back in the bike but it was still dead. I then decided t jump start it from the car and it started fine, I eventually disconnected the jump leads. I left the bike running for another 30 mins then switched it off. Went to start it again and the battery was dead again. I know this is probably a stupid question but have I got a dead battery? or could it be something else?

Hello everyone, If I am placing this wrongly please forgive me. I have just added a 2001 Yamaha 1600 Midnight Star to my bikes. This bike had been sitting for over a year and obviously needed carburetor cleaned. This bike had RineHart Exhaust put on it and an aftermarket air filter. The exhaust has started to brown so I assume the jets needed changed also. I carried the bike to local shop and they cleaned Tank, Carburetor, re jetted it, new plugs and put it all back together. It ran Perfect for the first 30 miles and then it started backfiring through the rear cylinder pipe while idling and also while riding when you are not accelerating, Just at a level speed. …

Yep, not for me though. I'm looking for a bike for my dad he is not web savvy so I'm doing the looking. My dad has an itch that needs scratching. He has always talked about the triumph sport cub, SPECIFICALLY the sport cub not the tiger cub. A T20SH in anorak, ideally around 63/64. Or, option 2 is a Triumph 350 or 500 speed twin. Ideally around 64 when they stopped fitting the fairing around the rear of the bike. Maybe a mid season one but not the early. He is def not looking for sheds either, all he wants to do is ride it on a blue moon and polish it after, so mint or near as. If anybody has any tips or leads in the triumph world if you could let me k…

I have a load of 'spares' left over from making one good motorbike out of two i started thinking about building a second motorbike out of the bits i didn't use, the frame is too far gone but the engine is ok, the swing arm needs rebuild, shocker has had it and the oil cooler has had it too etc etc -there's a lot that's shot bear in mind I have used the best parts for the bike that i restored i made what i think is a realistic list of what i need and the real cost of getting it running to a good standard. then i set that cost against what i could buy one for with a decent margin for contingencies so that i w…

i know that i am not a perfect rider or motorist,. however y/day that is sunday, did about 200 miles, met a friend with the same bike great day except... coming and going to our meeting point i had several car drivers push out in front it was like they saw me but came out anyway, in each case i had to slow in order to build up a decently safe distance i don't think i was speeding or going any faster than anybody else what is going on? i can't work it out, mostly elderly men with family in the car but one younger bloke who, judging by his later dithery driving, was lost. the only thing that i can think of to stop…

On my home from work yesterday and I got took out. As I was exiting a roundabout some idiot has nudged into the back of my bike and knocked me down. I've then slid up the road (dual carriageway) into the kerb and then into the central reservation. The POS has hit and run. Meanwhile Im trapped under my bike in shock and dazed and every one just drives past bare in mind this is rush hour. Anyway I got the bike off me and got to my feet and slumped over the central reservation. Eventually a guy stopped and asked if I was ok etc.I asked him to pick my bike up as my hand and knee were totalled. So my knee is out of it. The muscle is exposed and the palm of my hand is rea…

Hi, New to the forum. Just bought a DT250 MX for £300 - it's in a bit of a state but that's okay (that was the plan). Wasn't used on the road for many years and so has no reg plates (among other things). I'm trying to find the VIN so I can send off for the log book. WHERE IS THE VIN?! I've located a number of some description on the headstock and on the engine (they match) that goes like *1R7-132216* but I've come to understand that this isn't what I'm looking for. Could anyone tell me what that number is and more importantly, where are the numbers I'm looking for? You'd think this would be a simple operation but it's been made slightly more difficult by the previous owne…

On the way home yesterday at the start of my journey; an Audi in front driving poorly (not sticking to lanes/no signals etc) - I decide to pull over to buy some food, drink and such. Hanging about for 25 minutes or so. Jump back on the bike - head off - 5 minutes down the road guess who I am behind again! made me laugh - taken the guy 30 minutes to move 2 miles.

It will run for a few seconds on a shot of ether, but not otherwise. Fuel is getting to the carb, it has great spark. I cleaned the jets, which were clean. The bowl was full of fuel when I dropped it. The carb seems fine. 2000 miles on it. Never a problem previously. Suggestions?

I changed my oil today (as I do every 2500 miles) and to my horror I noticed some shiny little specs, just 3 or 4 little tiny specs of metal, but this has never happened before, even after the time it overheated and needed a top end rebuild. What the hell do I do now? Everything SEEMS to be ok, the gears all select as they should, starts every time, no knocking, everything is as it's always been.
