Ok here goes.. I start it up (first start of the day)using the choke, alot of popping noise like 1 plug is not hitting. I replaced the plugs but getting the same noise. So I am thinking could it be the carbs. Also when I am on the freeway cruising about 70 it is like I am squeezing the clutch in and out. Any idea's.... egarrett

So I'm looking into all the things I want to use my soon to be bike for after I buy it, other than the security aspect (posted: ) I wondered if it was possible to do long distances on it, although not reglarily. I've had mixed responses from looking at previously posted topics on this forum and others, ranging from "NO, don't be daft!" to "sure, I go from london to Scotland every other day" - kind of responses. Asking my cycling instructor, they suggested not to try doing the 200 mile ride as it would shake me to pieces and my overheat my bike. But it must be possible in some capacity or another? If it usually takes 4 hours in my car to do this trip with 1 break…

Hi having trouble with mis fires over running, and backfires. I have checked coil, removed small filter in carb ,cleaned all jets , checked inlet manifold rubbers, clean petrol, all slides are moving good (checked with mini camera through the air box, clean new filter, new iridium plug and cap. Checked lead from cap to coil taped up with self amalgamating tape. Still the same. Standard bike, including the exhaust. Any ideas, the only thing i can think of is the CDI unit, or TCI unit on this model. Transistor Controlled Ignition. I tried a working cdi unit today still the same. Going to try another set of carbs and new carb rubbers. Any ideas, driving me mad and the…

I know the old sweats will have experienced this first hand but i thought i'd put it up while its on my mind. We do seem to have a lot of new riders even with the draconian learner restrictions. All you folks wizzing around on your first love, after a very long spell of basically dry weather the first time it rains in whatever part of this damp land you live in the roads will become incredibly greasy. Like riding on a hard winter frost, more so in inner cities. Just be aware

So I've had this bike for two years now, I'm doing a ton of maintenance so it will hopefully be problem free this summer. Mos of this stuff I've never done before so this quite a learning experience for me. Anyways my current problem is that I'm trying to check and adjust the contact points for the ignition but mine looks nothing like it does in the shop manual I have. Does that black piece of plastic need to be removed or is this an electric ignition? Heres a picture, thanks in advance. http://img546.imageshack.us/i/engine1.jpg/

Just bought a used 07 VStar with 5k miles. After about 100 miles the speedometer stopped working. The rest of the gauges/odometer/lights all work. The manual says when you turn the key to "On" the bike does an electric check and the speedometer fans from 0 to the far right and then returns to 0. Mine no longer does this. I have checked the fuses and they all appear fine. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Hi People Work this out recently got back on to 2 wheels and looked at insuring said bike, quotes unusually cheap ? had a virago 535 for 11 years with never a claim and i was quoted £71.00 full comp so filled in forms and paid premium in full with Bennetts. after which the insurance informed me that my NCB was out of date and that I had to start again with zero NCB. OK i accept that they informed me that the new premium would be £78.00 !!! so this means my initial 11 years NCB was worth a poultry 7 quid. But they charged me 30 quid to change the policy. Is it me or is this madness?

My upstairs hall light blew a couple of bulbs recently, the fitting takes 3 bulbs. No problems I have a (growing) selection or sizes and fittings. Out comes the bulb and I was surprised. I did actually fit the light fitting but could not remember the type of bulb. That is interesting I hear you say; Is it a Bayonet fitting - no Is it a small bayonet fitting - no Is it a screw fitting - no Is it a small screw fitting - no. That is not to mention low energy, 40w, 60w, 100w variations. It is a Phillips pl-c 13w/827/2p. That is a 13 watt, cool white, 2pin fluorescent disguised as a light bulb to you and me. Armed with this information I go off to B&Q and …

Don't you find it gauling that as motorcyclists we are being shafted by the manufacturers over the awful fuel economy of our bikes? My current steed is a 650cc twin, it weighs 215Kg and is capable of transporting 2 adults and a small amount of luggage. Fuel economy = 40-45mpg. My last bike was a XJ900S Diversion, 900cc transverse inline 4 cylinder which weighed 239Kg and is capable of transporting 2 adults and a small amount of luggage. Fuel economy = 45-50mpg. Whereas, my Ford Focus is a 1600cc transverse inline 4 cylinder which weighs 1200Kg, is capable of transporting 5 adults and a not inconsiderable amount of luggage. Fuel economy = 37-40mpg. (as a point of refer…
